Tyson would improve to 18-0 (18 KOs) with this 6th round TKO of Ferguson. Initially the bout was deemed a disqualification as the referee had stopped the bout due to Ferguson's excessive holding, but the New York State Boxing Commission would change that ruling and declare Tyson the winner by TKO, extending his knockout streak to 18.
