watching you make that amazing yarn was mesmerizing, I can only hope and pray that I end that skillful, I bought a Kiwi 3 a few weeks ago and I've been trying to learn through watching vid's like your's as I don't know anyone that spins and there's no craft shops that do spinning wheels and that near me, I'm getting to the point where I can spin a more or less consistent yarn so I will get there eventually, Thanks for sharing your amazing skill's, I'm off to go and watch more of your channel to see what else I can learn 👍❤
Welcome 😊 Practice makes perfect 🥰 also remember art yarn is art and everyone spins differently. Relax and practice on some scrap fibre or a small section till your confident to make a full skein 😀. I have many years up my sleeve and I wasn't always great at making this yarn. It took me many years to perfect it.
Your spinning wheel looks sturdy enough to have a complete overhaul: a nice sandi g , regluing and maybe a custom paint job .I’m shure you would be proud of it !
One day I'll pull it out of retirement and give it a make over. I retired her last year and bought an Majacraft Rose wheel & a Ashford Super jumbo E-spinner
Very nice 👌 I'm still trying to get used to having double pedal and a harder wood. I get such sore knees and feet. But she is beautiful and such a lovely feeling having an expensive and pretty wheel to show off in the videos.
@@josparadiseofcolor depending on the tension ( pull ) you can put your feet higher up towards the wheel and it’s gets easier pushing . ( I tried your beehive technique today for the first time and failed spectacularly 😁, because I used a a loosely spun singel ply for the Core 👍🏻
You have such a gift for color! I’ve binged so many of your videos recently and you’ve really inspired me to step outside of my 2-ply DK handspun-comfort zone.
Naww thank you 😊 I used to paint 🎨 so I started fibre arts as I could create so many stunning things with colour. Found its also a heap easier to sell my work also and I just love creating & dyeing my own yarns and fibre its like painting a canvas, there is so many things you can create and make. My most ♥ thing I'd love to one day get into is making gorgeous textile art pieces and garments. Thank you for enjoying my videos and your lovely comment 😊 ❤
You always spin beautiful yarns. I have done thick and thin before, but never took it to the step you did next. I really like the results. Thanks so much. Blessings.
Naww thank you 💕 I have many glorious tutorials sharing many different types of spinning techniques that I hope you enjoy learning from also. Have a wonderful evening/day.
My favorites are the Ashford. Parts are readily available and the price is not so bad. I have 7 wheels but my favorite is the traditional Ashford. I've tried many styles . I would also like one of the Ashford lay down traveler ones as well.
I bought an Ashford Super Jumbo E-Spinner plus an Major craft rose since this video. But I have to agree the ashford travelor is the most nicest I've used.
Thank you for sharing this video. I haven't had a chance to try art yarn yet as been too busy making yarn for weaving, but think I need to take it to a different level. You make it look easy. Would you please share what you used for your core? Thank you!
I ply with a cobweb to laceweight thread in many different types from fine merino / viscos, merino/cashmere, silk, hemp etc. I use the ones on a cone that you buy from thread shops.
Love the video! started spinning 30 years ago and haven't spun in about 15. You inspire me to get back to it! Am I seeing this correctly - are you spinning and plying both counterclockwise?
As I've been informed lol 😆 😂 normally you spin S then Z 🤣 I must have been tired cause I normally catch it before the end. But thank you 😊 It's always a pleasure to know I'm inspiring others.
Thanks for this video. It's just the kind of yarn I want to spin. Do you have a special extra large orifice? Also, what are you using as your center when you are making there beehives? Is it's yarn or string?
The plying thread is a 3 strand Italian Silk and Metallic Thread. Laceweight. And for this I was using an Ashford Traditional travelor wheel with normal sized orifice. Just strip the thick sections to half the size so when you turn them into beehives they will fit through it. You can use any size.
Thank you so much for this very understandible video! I wonder, spin you both in s-turn? And the ground-yarn is a single in Z-turn? Nice color, with what are they colored? Happy spinning!! Inge
@@pjd2709 this video was about 2 years ago. Since then I have retired the ashford and purchased a Majorcraft Rose & a super jumbo E-spinner from Ashford.
Can I just check please, you commented below that you spun S twist and ply Z twist? But in the video, it looks like both single and ply, the wheel is turning clockwise (i.e. same direction?) So I'm a little confused 🥺
Arrhh I just watched it...your right I am lol sometimes I catch myself doing it after I've spun for abit. Not sure if iended up correcting this one or not.... Normally you spin s for single or both singles and ply on the Z.
I think you should wait just a bit longer for the hand crafted one because it seems like you’ve really been thinking about and if you keep thinking about it then you must really want it and I think that makes it worth waiting for. I also think about it this way; you’re only buying one wheel and you’re going to have only that one wheel for quite some time before you’d need/want to buy a new one. The time you’d have the wheel before replacing it is much longer than the time you’ll have to wait to save up for the handcrafted wheel you truly want and I think that makes waiting the extra bit of time so you can buy the handcrafted wheel you want.
I love this style of yarn and the colors are splendid! Beautiful work!
Thanking you kindly, I have many other videos sharing this technique also. Enjoy :)
One of the clearest lessons I have watched! Thank you so much Jo.

Thanking you 🥰

The Joy wheels are nice to spin on.
Very fine to look at, thanks a lot

The yarn you made is gorgeous. Maybe a really good service on your wheel will make a big difference?
I bought a new one a couple months ago & thank you.
Brilliant video. Thank you. What can you use this yarn for ? Knitting?
Knitting and weaving :) adds lovely texture puffs to a knitted piece & puffy waves to weaving.
Oh it's so beautiful T.T I struggle so much with thick and thin.

How do you finish your yarn off on the end to stop it from untwisting please?
I tie the ends into a knot and rub it in between my hands and lightly felt the ends

When was the last time you gave your spinning wheel an OIL...? It does wonders for squeaks!

Спасибо, очень красивая пряжа!

Добро пожаловать и спасибо
Благодарю!
I hope I didn't miss anything but please would you tell me what you used as a core?
This is plied with a thin thread. Most likely used a silk thread. Please note this video was made a while ago.
It's a 3 strand Italian Silk and Metallic Thread. Cobweb to light fingering weight thread on a cone.
Can you get a second hand Olympic maybe from an estate sale?
I went with a Super Jumbo E-spinner & a majorcraft rose 🌹 instead.
Can I just check please, you commented below that you spun S twist and ply Z twist? But in the video, it looks like both single and ply, the wheel is turning clockwise (i.e. same direction?) So I'm a little confused 🥺
If you spin in the same direction for both you will have a huge over twisted mess.
Arrhh I just watched it...your right I am lol sometimes I catch myself doing it after I've spun for abit. Not sure if iended up correcting this one or not.... Normally you spin s for single or both singles and ply on the Z.
Your wheel just needs balanced, its out oc alignment and possibly needs a few screws tightened periodically.

I found out the handcrafted wheel was going to cost 23k and so I went with a Majacraft Rose 🌹 instead for $1800
