I just knew that the moment Bae plays Y4, she became an instant Akiyama fan. Bro's rizz is truly irresistible, which is what makes him a legend among the Yakuza roster
For context for anyone on Koichi Yamadera (Akiyama's seiyuu), he's Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop and Beerus in Dragon Ball, among others.

51:30 Ah, the law of Yakuza's cutscene guns. You see, cutscene guns are at its weakest at the beginning of the game, where it cannot kill even when fired at point-blank. It gets more powerful as the game progresses, where it can kill even the most powerful characters if the shot is fired right at the ending of the game.

RGG Studios was cooking by introducing new characters, which usually would've made fans angry, but having their first character being Akiyama. Akiyama is what happens when you write a character, but max out their charisma. That man, right there? That is chuck o'meat if I ever seen one.

Yakuza 4 is the game that got me into the franchise back in 2014.
Back then the series wasn't as popular until two let's players introduced it to their audience. I love to believe their videos are the domino effect to why Yakuza is a beloved franchise now.

@@firenter Nah, it's pretty clear that they were experimenting with retiring Kiryu as a protagonist in this game. Which is why 5 is a soft reboot of his story.
When I first saw Akiyama, the first thought that came to my mind was “He reminds me so much of Mine.”
Granted, both differ a lot in personality, but hear me out. Tehsnakerer, a gaming UA-camr who’s made great retrospectives on the Yakuza series, put it best in his Yakuza 4 retrospective. Both Akiyama and Mine are wealthy businessmen who are funding Yakuza out of a personal interest and both are driven by feelings of abandonment, which drives their complicated relationships with money. Hell, it could be argued that Akiyama was built off the character archetype of Mine.

What makes it better for me personally is that Akiyama is not only built off of Mine’s concepts, but turns them on their head in his own fun way. Mine was stoic, cold, and calculating, never truly showing his hand until absolutely necessary. Akiyama is similar, but a lot of his careful planning and calculations are masked by an air of aloofness and casual swagger that leads others, even those close to him, to believe he’s little more than comic relief. Akiyama has always felt like he takes cues from characters who came before him like Mine, or others like Nishiki, and mirrors them, much like how he was designed to be a mirror to Kiryu himself (at least before a certain dragonfish entered the picture). He’s the GOAT like that, one of my favorite characters in general tbh. If only there was more of him…

Akiyama relies more on charm than Kiryu and Majima, that's for sure.
Akiyama says the city is one where people go to fulfill their dreams. That seems like a nice set up for Lily to contradict; she's desperate to get out of the city. She needs the money to escape.
She really doesn't strike me as a black widow or a hitwoman, but it's possible that she's an accomplice to such.

Lets not forget that Hana is voiced by THE Aya Hirano. Tanimura had his actor changed as well for this version after his original actor was caught with marijuana i think it was.
His original actor Hiroki Narimiya had played a joke where he pretended to do drugs with candy (coke with sugar iirc?) but the media caught on and made a big stink over it. While he was eventually cleared, he decided to quit the industry. Although he did recently come back within the past few months.

Imo this game was just testing the waters for Yakuza 5. 4 isn't bad but it's easily the most forgettable in the series. It's much more ambitious than 3 but 3 does characterization and vibes way better since 4 doesn't spend too long building each character up unfortunately. 5 on the other hand jumps off from the seeds this game planted and runs with them, and while it still has some story hiccups (mostly at the end), it does a better job at selling the characters and world, I think.
it's quite a slow burn so let the game cook
@@GenesisJames 4 suffers from quite a bit from being memed on cause of the rubber shenanigans, though I think Akyama and the next protag made it worth playing regardless. 5 imo is one of the funnest even if still rather weak story wise, its still one of the more important games in Kiryu's arc.
one of the problems with 4 imo is how it starts with akiyama and a bunch of unknown characters so it takes awhile to connect with his story, and when you do his part is already over, i think they shouldve switched part 2 with part 1 and made some changes in the story to fit this change better, cuz the part 2 is more connected to the other games plot overall
