Favorite part of this movie: Stanley Tucci's final scene, where he's recording his thoughts for posterity, and goes, "What the f*ck am I doing?"

Garys list near the end was hilarious. I thought he might descend into a Stanley Tucci style meltdown but he bravely kept a lid on it. (just) “You can’t get the internet at the centre of the earth!” 👏 I still love the space shuttle landing scene. Great video, guys. ✌️

Thanks, Gary, for the list of scientific inaccuracies, before giving your recommendation for The Core. I'm really glad you pointed out the things that were driving me crazy about this film, so it was nice to see you mention those as your way of knowing the junk science behind it, but still going, "Yes, I get it. I know these things make no sense, I know it's stupid, but it's still a fun popcorn flick and I enjoy it." You nailed my biggest problems I had with the movie, but you forgot one last important one: a single person, cannot hack the entire internet, even with a building full of supercomputers, because it's the friggin' internet.
Also, Electric Magnetic waves are not like sound waves and actually can travel through air, solid objects, & even space. If that weren't possible, then the Earth's core wouldn't be able to generate our magnetosphere beyond the Earth's mantle to protect us from the Sun's UV rays, hence the point of the movie, to restore it, albeit with pseudo science.

Having worked in emergency medicine for years humour, bad, good, sometimes tasteless, was the only way to deal with the serious and often devastating situations you find yourself in. Without dark humour in those even darker terrible and unimaginable times that can be the only way to keep functioning and working and hopefully maintaining a little sanity along the way.
Essentially I’m saying that in a crisis world ending situation I get having the humour 🤷🏻‍♀️

Stanley Tucci has always been one of the highlights of this movie to me. This is a movie I immensely enjoy, so long as I don't allow myself to think about any of it.
Reading what John Rogers has written about his part of writing the script, it's amazing just how much worse the science of this movie could have been.

Still own the DVD of this film. Great vid guys, and to answer your "How is she flying through this?" question - The Virgil is still crawling through magma, not empty air. This movie took the liberty of giving us "lava vision" so that you could understand what was going on outside the ship.
Good thing she didn't find any more geodes on the way up lol!

electro magnetic disruption would be so antiintense as to cause all space radition to instantly kill everyone on earth on the dayside like it's kinda funny how worse it would actually be. The entire magnetic field of the earth which deflect deadly sun radiation would just be gone instantly.

I don't get why the writers can't come up with something just A LITTLE BIT more believable. 10min of internet research and/or a chat with an actual scientist and you could tell the same drama but with a background that doesn't insult the intelligence of a 12 year old.
It wouldn't hurt the movie, i promise!

A decent "End of the World" movie with pretty good SFX. Good casting, however @ times the story got a little clumpy. I was born & raised in San Francisco, right on schedule & once again "The City" & Golden Gate Bridge gets wiped out in a movie. (First time GG Bridge destroyed "It Came From Beneath The Sea" 1955). All in all... a watchable disaster flick.

I mean, even if you could sink into lava, you'd be burnt to a cinder just from the heat before getting anywhere near the lava. The science of this film is terrible, but the worst IMO, probably because most people think it's possible is when the burst of microwaves melt the Golden Gate. Not only are microwaves harmless unless concentrated in a confined space (like an oven), but they only affect water molecules. Unless the bridge is built from something with water, it wouldn't be affected by microwaves.

You're reviews are always good but I really enjoy this movie because I like it. I have to disagree with Iain about Hillary Swank's reaction to Bruce Greenwood's death. I always felt she smiled as a defence mechanism to deflect the situation before it suddenly hits her that she has to face up to a situation that she is emotionally unequipped to deal with.

On a science related forum, a group of posters lamented the 'stupidity' of Hollywood disaster movies . . and in the end, I posted, you should write and get produced your scientifically accurate science fiction movies . . if you can make them entertaining as well as accurate. I'm sure there are plenty of such movies, but most likely not well funded to internationally theater runs. A shame. But, after seeing what passes for sci fi on SyFy, there's a so bad its good and a so bad you're dumb audience out there tilting the scales . . and the earth's core.
