My advice to anybody with a Snapper is, if you're getting ready to work on it, watch Jim first. It will save you time, frustration, and dollars also. Jim is the Snapper guru. No doubt about that.
One of the best videos I have ever seen. The filming was a solid 10. My dad bought one of the first Snapper Comets when they first came out. I was eleven years old. We didn't own a bushhog so I mowed the yard and the fields. I'm retired now and I bought a used 9 HP from a neighbor so I could get into the tight places my oturn want fit. My belt broke a few weeks back and I needed a refresher course on how to install the new belt. Now it come back to me. Thanks so much.
Hi Jim, I've had snapper rear engine mowers for agout.20 years. My first had a 30" deck and a 8 hp briggs and Stratton. My new one a 12.5 hp intek with a 28" deck. I am in the glacial moraine country of north central wisconsin. We have more rocks and gravel than we have grass. ( very slight exaggeration). With these mowers I can go up 45 degree slopes, and down 55 degree slopes. Carefully. It takes about 6 -6.5 hours to mow it all. All this is to say that despite all the people that try to convince me to get a larger mower, this is what fits this property. ( I'm about 220 lbs and 68 years old.) Your videos have been EXTREMELY!! Helpful to me over the years. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with those of us who need a helping hand. There does.not seem to be a lot of that attitude left in this country. Yours is appreciated.
Well I am glad I can help, but you can help me by subscribing and it is free to do so and I does help. Well don’t forget to tell them no machine Picks up like a Snapper. Jim
Saved me a ton of work. I was prepared to take the axle off to get that belt out. Then i watched your video and you showed me 5th gear and it slides out. thanks!
Thank you so much for posting this. I finally know how to change the belt on my lawn mower and can also report that I managed to successfully change the belt after watching this! I can now do something my dad doesn't know how to do (aside from computer skills). Life goal achieved!
@@jimjackson9381 no rubbing it in, it's enough for me to know. Inner pride, ya know? I'll let you know if anything else needs fixing. I still don't think the belt is tight enough, but I couldn't get the front end to pull forward, so, we'll see if it throws the new belt t he next time I mow.
Aaron Slusher OK I need you to try something if you can stand your machine up on its back grab onto the two front tires and try to twist the tube that goes inside the rear case it should turn easily if it doesn’t turn then it’s rusted up and you have to break it loose don’t let the machine stand out more than five or 10 minutes without taking off the battery. Once you get a tube broke loose then you’ll be able to slide it to tighten your belt. Jim
I wanted to let you know that I managed to get the belt adjusted, it just wasn't going to happen where I had the mower parked the first time. I just hadn't had time to get to it until today.
Hey man i juss want to say thank you, the part of the video showing out to adjust the shaft for tightening and loosening literally solved a month long problem for me. Appreciate you and your videos. So does my dad because i don’t have to borrow his mower anymore lol
I have an older snapper it was my dad's its a mid 80s to mid 90s not sure but I've had it for 11years and the belt finally broke last year and thanks to your video I got it replaced today it sure has been a great mower.. thank you for your video's.. oh and I got the new belt from rural king there alot cheaper there.
Hey Jim. Great video. really need guys like you posting these DIYs, so keep em coming. Recently worked on Snapper 131416bve that had one stationary and one movable idler pulleys. each idler pulley was v-groove, which seemed strange to me. mower kept breaking belts. local small engine repair service worked on this thing several times, but mower kept breaking belts. when i looked it up i found this model was supposed to use a double v type belt. never seen this before (guess the repair pros at the local shop hadn't either). ordered it, put it on, and that issue is now history.
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! WORKING ON MY INLAWS SNAPPER AND YOUR VIDEO GOT ME PUT IN THE WILL...I THINK!😅 And no stupid music annoyingly playing in background. No fowl language either. Thank you sir!!!
Great video, after watching I proceeded to change the belt on my Snapper riding mower. Your video helped me walk through the process with no problems. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I really appreciated all this info. And of course, a much better operating mower.

Jim, the pulley on my drive disc came apart so I had to replace the drive assembly disc on my 33 inch rear engine rider. Here were the challenges. Getting those allen screws lose. Also, I couldn't have gotten the drive assembly off within a pulley puller. Removing the (right leg side) engine front mount bolt (tight working space). Lining the bolts back up to place the engine back in place. A little trick I thought of. From the bottom of the engine take a metal bit that is a little larger than the bolt holes and drill into the holes maybe an 1/8 of an inch to give it some shoulder to help the bolts align when you place the engine back down over the bolts. This really helps when you are by working by yourself. I am writing you to say I knew if I ran into something I needed help on, you would be there for me. Thanks Jim. Job complete!
I just today put a Belt on, 1st 1 over 20 years. I have changed the Drive Disk years back, had to refreshen my knowledge, and I ordered a new disk this morning. I watched this GREAT video couplevtimes yesterday, came back this morning to figure out the Belt situation, what direction to install, V down or up, because of the Idle Arm, I guess 8 did it right, V down. To adjust mine, which distance was 1" didn't have to, my Center Arm has a Pin and Carter Key with a stack of Washers. I suppose I pull the Pin out, pull the Arm out past to where I can put the Washers behind? Yes, the direction of the Belt in the Pullys had me, especially the Idle Arm. I crank her here in a bit after fluids settle 🤞.
@@chrislnflorida5192 the belt that is supposed to be on a snapper is a double V the larger V goes into the pulleys on the engine and the spindle the smaller V goes into the idler pulley you can change and go to a standard V belt, but you have to get a flat idler pulley and replace the original

Love the info. I had forgotten that I had seen Snappers tipped up in our groundskeeper shop years ago. That will solve most of my storage problem on my new/old mower. And I think I'll make a cart so I can roll it back into the dark corner for the winter. Thanks again.
Managed to replace the belt thanks to your excellent video. Unfortunately i was unable to get the plastic shroud off of the 'blade engaging lever' so it was a bit fiddly. Would have been great if you had included that too :)
@@jimjackson9381 It is indeed held on with 4 bolts (2 short ones on the front and 2 longer ones to the back). The thing is that i couldn't manage to get it off with the lever in it (the L-shaped guide-slot for engaging the blade with the lever protruding didn't leave me enough space).
G'Day Jim, Queensland is one of the states in Australia - long coastline and a massive inland area and occupies maybe 1/5th of Australia size. Snappers were a bit expensive so didn't sell too good down here plus a bit small but I love mine for it's design features and the thought that went into it's initial conception. Bit like the original VW. My current problem with my Snapper is a loose belt, and I mean Loose!! I'll follow your advice and adjust. Regards and good luck.
Denis .Hakanson Denis hi it's Jim. I see you're not a subscriber yet so hit that button it is free and if you need any parts I'll do my best to get them for you, a lot of the part companies in the US don't like to ship overseas but they can sell them to me and I can ship them to you. So I guess that makes you a new state thanks for sharing that and if you do subscribe you can watch all the videos I have I'm up to 147 so enjoy and I hope to talk to you soon Jim
You mentioned that belts aren't meant to bend backward. I know A section and B section, etc but I'd never heard of the AA section that my little owners book called for. It's cut with a "v" on both top and bottom - almost rounding it. That apparently allows the Idler to run without the irritation of a flat-top. Perhaps they saw it would twist, as you mentioned.
flavio brunetti Well thank you for being a viewer and hopefully a subscriber, and I have a question for you that I ask a lot of my viewers specially the ones out of the country to take a picture of yourself and your snapper and email it to me so I can hang it on my wall of friends. Jim

Thanks for showing how to replace and tighten the belt on an old snapper riding mower but how do you adjust to get a new belt/does the pulley ever wear-out?
Henry Ledbetter If you’re talking about the idler pulley yes they go bad and you periodically have to replace them but they should last for 10 years at least. Jim
New boots, blades and belt on sr1642 asap. Plus I cleaned the top of the deck. What a mess. So once parts come then I hope my deck will stay engaged! Oh and a new battery so I dont have to pull the rope.
Hey Jim, I found your video. Much easier than going about it my way for sure. What is the belt part number for this old Snapper tractor??? The local hardware store gave the customer a 2-2252. I think maybe the original number was 230-7699????
Yeah Jim I put on a new belt minds and old square instead of a to b a square and I pried it out to the two washers off and pried it out but it only go out so far and I still can't get to slack out of the belt
Hello Jim, can you please tell me how to eliminate the engagement lock on lever for the blade on position with the foot pedals ??? I find it a bit of a pain dealing with keeping my foot on the locking on position when my yard does not have any things to hurt the blade. Thanks a bunch too. VF
Hey Jim I just subscribed to your page I have always loved snapper mowers mine got stolen so I bought this new one now it will go in reverse but not forward there is a bracket with looks like some plastic fittings maybe back by the drive stuff it looks like there is a tensioner deal that it attaches to if you could tell me the name of that and how it operates I would appreciate it I was trying to find a cheap fix but if I can figure out what it's called and how it operates I would greatly appreciate it! I used a rubber grommet and it worked a little bit better at least it pulls forward a little bit....
coreyvallen Well there could be a lot of things that are missing broken or just needs greasing can you send me some pictures of what you think the issue is with your machine standing up and I’ll let you know what I think. Jim

Thank you. You have very good videos. I have a Snapper 84660 rear engine rider, but my frame is a little different. I ordered a new deck belt and was watching how to replace it when it arrives. However, my frame does not look like it is adjustable to adjust belt if necessary (see picture that I emailed you). Everything else seems to be the same as on your video. How do I make belt adjustments if necessary? Thanks,
Both my old and new belts have about 2"of play but seem to work fine and in fact I dont see how pulling the tube out will make any difference except making the belt tighter, not closer together. The only way theyre getting closer together is if the idler pulley can move farther over but it can't. Secondly, my tube doesn't have a clamp, it has a bunch of big washers/spacers and a cotter pin.
opentrunks Your model needs plastic inserts to expand the frame and believe me if you pull the tube out of the rear case it will make the belt tighter. But if it’s working good then I guess I wouldn’t worry about it. Jim
How expensive are the deck spindles ?? My deck is a hi-vac type with 28 and 33 inch blade diameters. How long does a belt last Jim ?? Thank you for your help and advice Sir. v
It all depends on the model number of your machine. I just looked one up with basic 28 inch deck and they’re selling for $150 for the assembly. You can find that information on Parts Tree.Com Jim
Hey Jim, My belt broke on my Snapper. I think I can replace it ok. My question is before it broke it would do just fine accept if the grass was the least bit damp the belt would slip. Finally breaking it.
The important thing is to start by lowering the deck all the way down to the ground. Then remove the 4 screws. Then twist & wiggle the black cover upwards and off.
Hey Jim, It would seem less effortless to remove the drive belt cover if the cover was split or cut through to the blade lever. My cover is that way and very easy to remove. Just a thought...
Hey Jim, thanks for posting this video. I’d done this job a few years ago, following a different UA-cam video. It took me a couple hours. Today, I knocked out the job in about 20 minutes. I was considering replacing my mower, but now this toughest maintenance job has been made easy. Any thoughts on why I have to replace my drive disc 3-4 times a year?
About how old is the machine? And is it the drive disc or is it the clutch disc? The drive disk is hooked to the bottom of the engine. The clutch disc has the black rubber on it and hook to the side of the chain case. I need to know for sure before I can tell you what to look for. Jim
Thanks for the priceless information! I think I may need to adjust my belt but not sure. I got a Snapper built in 2011 a few months back and it has been great but the past month or so its been losing power. It looked brand new and I know was well taken care of when I got it. I changed the spark plug and the air filter and oil look good. It loses power when I turn the blades on and if I am mowing a long stretch (about 100 feet) it will slow down until it just stops, even on a flat surface. Also it has lost power and doesn't want to go up any type of hill. Any suggestions of what that may be? I may try changing the fuel filter next but from what I see it looks good. It starts right up and sounds normal like it always has. I noticed the gas cap float isn't working and maybe it needs a new cap and there is a pressure issue? Any suggestions would help. Thanks for the great videos!
There is a vent in the gas cap. Make sure that is open and clear now when you say the machine slows down, are you saying the engine itself is slowing down to an idle or is the blade slowing down or is the machine it’s self slowing down in speed in the engine is still running OK?
@jimjackson9381 okay I will try the gas cap. The engine and blade still run fine but the mower itself is slowing down to a stop. That's in 5th gear and on rabbit mode. Even on turtle it does this. I try down shifting but it still slows down to a stop eventually.
OK with your machine standing up take some pictures of your Rubber Drive disck I would like to see it and while it’s standing up, watch video number 70 and tighten your yoke spring that typically solves most issues. Jim
@jimjackson9381 okay were would you like me to send the pictures? Also when I stand it up it leaks gas out of the gas cap. I watched that video and will make the adjustment tool and mess with it in the next few days. Thanks so much Jim!
Hi Jim I have the Snapper 30" the professional with 12.5 hp motor They side the belt on this model is 7022252YP but they don't give you the the size can you tell me what is the size on it and if this the right model for my mashing I have this mashing for 35 years and it works perfect. Thank you Isaac
The part number for the belt that you sent me they’re saying is 11 1/4 inches long. You must have the wrong part number or maybe you have a walk behind lawnmower. Jim
Hi and thanks for your lessons... How tight should the idler bolt be? When i got mine pretty tight it didnt want to turn the pulley and wouldnt go in gear. Thank you
You should be able to tighten the bolt for the idler pulley as tight as you want to without affecting the rotation of it at all send me some pictures so I can see what the issue might be my email is. jimsfixitshop@gmail.com Thanks for being a viewer and hopefully a subscriber. Jim
If you take your complete model number to Parts Tree.Com. in Texas and look it up it will tell you the size of the belt you need and you can also buy it from them the gas line you can get at any True Value Hardware. store or automotive store. Jim
Jim, I like your video but the mower deck you are showing looks nothing like my Snapper SPX2352 23 hp where I need to replace the drive belt. Have you done a video for such a model that I may have missed? The routing of this riding mower is quite simple but it seems to me that I need to remove the idler pulley to get the old belt off and the new belt on. The manual I have does not mention anything about belt installation. Do you have any suggestions? Thanking you in advance.
Ursula Adamson The machine that I am working on right now is a snapper rear engine rider and that is the proper mowing deck, your machine model number does not sound familiar at all as far as a rear engine rider and I have never found one was a 23 hp Engine. So I’m not sure what machine you have. Jim
Jim great video. Question: I have a 28in 9hp with a ninja mulching blade. Consistently now when I get into grass that is only somewhat thick, I can look down and see (now that I have taken the belt deck cover off to see what's going on) I see that the main spindle pulley will slow down than completely stall out and the belt can even smoke sometimes. And I will have to back up and disengage the blade then come back again when the blade has momentum again. I should note that this happens when I am in speed #1 as slow as I goes. What would you suggest to remedy this? Could the belt be to stretched out and not be transferring power or do those mulching blades need a certain type of deck or plastic side shroud? Let me know if you need more info. Thanks for all of us you are helping.
Logan Witt hi Logan it's Jim The first thing you want to do is take the belt off of the spindle engage the mower deck as if you were going to mow with it and turn the spindle to see if the spindle is turning freely, if it does then check your belt for bad spots , if the belt looks good put it back on and check the belt tension you want to have about an inch and a quarter between the belt by the idler pulley, try that and let me know if it helps or not talk to you later Jim
Have a 2011 28in 9hp model that is having an issue with the blade engagement handle staying high enough in the lock postion to keep the blades running. It doesn't disengage the locking mechanism. Could the locking mechanisms possibley be worn and need to be replaced. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Can't seem to find the engaging parts for the handle that locks the handle in place.
James Hellwig Hi it’s Jim If your blade keeps running when it should be off and you have trouble locking it all the way up that usually means your belt is too tight take the black cover off the top of the deck and see what is going on. And let me know. Jim
Need Replacement BELT WIDTH Advice: Series 15 33" deck w/dual idler pulley system (non-adjustable): Broken belt appeared to be a 5/8" wide 74" Manual says 7043844YP Briggs # but no specs on width other than 74" length. (it may be a 6-sided AA belt) Hardware and auto parts industrial/fraction belts available in 74 x 1/2" and all cross into the YP #. The 1/2" belt sits in the BOTTOM of the DEEP motor and spindle pulleys and screeches/slips as the blade comes up to speed. With blade engaged, engine off, if I attempt to turn the blade, it slips on the engine pulley. FEAR: afraid the actual YP belt will be 1/2'" and do the same thing OPINION: use the 74 x 5/8 hardware/auto parts belt.
Well, if this is a SnapperRear engine rider is supposed to have a Double The Built. If you want to put a standard V belt on it, you’ll have to change the idler pulley to a flat pulley instead of a V pulley. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 I think that is correct for the non-33" decks which have only a single idler. The 33 has a double idler system: one is a v-belt pulley and the "middle pulley" is a flat bottom that is clearly designed to contact the flat top of the belt not unlike an automotive timing belt tensioner. This is troublesome because if the correct belt is a double V, then why the flat bottom pulley instead of another V-pulley that reverse wraps the belt? I'm beginning to wonder if someone replaced the reverse wrap pulley with a flat bottom so a conventional V-belt could be used???

Hi Jim, I have a question. My Snapper RER is a model 7800785 28”. I want to replace the belt which is Snapper #7043844 which has been replaced by #7043844YP. The problem is that they are showing on several web sites that the replacement belt is 1” longer than the original 72.75” vs 73.75” (Parts Tree, etc.). How can this work properly, are they assuming we will have to extend the frame? Thank you for your input. Mike
OK the 73 3/4 inch belt is for a 33 inch deck The 72 3/4 inch belt is for a 28 inch and 30 inch deck call them up and tell them you have a 28 inch machine and you need the72 3/4 inch belt. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 Thanks for the reply. The closest I can find is a 73”, will that work? If not what brand and seller can you recommend? There are a ton of brands claiming their belt is for the 28” Snapper but their listed length is wrong.
Well it depends which style of belt you have if you have a standard V belt and the back side is flat you’re going to have to change your idler pulley a snapper the belt has a double V It has a V on the front and a V on the back that is why the idler pulley is a V pulley. So I guess to answer your original question yes it should work you’re going to have to stretch out your frame to get your 1 inch space between the belts. Jim
Hey Jim, I wasn't aware of the double v configuration. Thank you for that. Ordered one from Ebay. My idler rolls free but feels a tiny bit dry. Can I stuff a little grease in it? Lithium ok? Or just replace it? Thanks for any help.

i repowered my snapper rider with a briggs motor with a 25mm shaft. I figured the 0.016 difference in shaft diameter wouldn't be a big deal, for the drive disc its not, it works perfect drives around no issue, but the belt now slaps really bad to the point that you can't engage the blade, could this be caused by the slight out of roundness that the crankshaft pulley is at now due to the offset caused by shaft diameter difference? Any help is appreciated
GarrittpwlTV .016 difference between a 25 mm shaft in a 1 inch shaft does not sound like it’s a big deal But and there’s always a butt when it’s spinning at 3000 RPM’s that .016 inch is going to make a lot of difference now if you know somebody that works in a machine shop or you have a machine shop close by you you can stop in and ask them if you could have a small piece of shim stock to cut and fit around your crankshaft and then slide your drive disk over it and that will illuminate the run out issue and you won’t have to get rid of the engine you just got or live with this tremendous vibration issue Give that a shot and see if you can find some shim stock if not send me your name and address to my email and I’ll cut you a piece of shim stock and mail it to you to take care of your issue. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 thanks for the info! I attempted this with an 0.08 feeler guage in between the hub and the crank opposite the keyway to no avail unfortunately. My other thought was to have someone punch out the hub to a bigger diameter and make a keyed insert for it. What do you of that route?
Well, if you mean, why is the bottom of the deck so clean and shiny is because he has a sandy yard and it’s constantly sandblasting the bottom of the deck that’s not really good I try to clean mine every winter and put a couple coats of paint on it. Jim
@@legacytrucking for some reason as a built snappers, they change the way the belts are adjusted as you seen in this video. This one just has a pin and you use spacers. Jon McKnight I measured one of my belts off my snapper it measures 72 1/2 inches long. But if you use a standard Vbelt you're going to have to replace your idler pulley. The snapper drive belt is a double V it is not a standard belt. Thanks Jim
David Houston Well what’s the model number of your machine and at least what size is your mower deck and it is a snapper rear engine rider correct. Jim
Corey Walter Snapper doesn't give a size in inches on their belts they just have part numbers cording to my books a 28, 30 and a 33 inch deck all take the same size belt. The belt on a snapper is a double V has a V on the front and the back side and that's because the idler pulley is not a flat one it's a v pulley so you pretty much have to use their belts in less you change the idler pulley and put a flat one on if you want to do that I have a spare belt I can measure and give you the size and then you can buy one at your hardware store.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching.
( I'm about 220 lbs and 68 years old.)
Your videos have been EXTREMELY!!

Now now don’t be rubbing it in too bad , If you need any other help with maintenance on that thing let me know talk to you soon. Jim
Aaron Slusher
OK I need you to try something if you can stand your machine up on its back grab onto the two front tires and try to twist the tube that goes inside the rear case it should turn easily if it doesn’t turn then it’s rusted up and you have to break it loose don’t let the machine stand out more than five or 10 minutes without taking off the battery. Once you get a tube broke loose then you’ll be able to slide it to tighten your belt. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 I'll give it a shot!
Thank you very much for your help and time making the videos. A big help for me. Best Regards from Galicia (Spain)
Great video Jim, wish I would have seen this before I changed my 1st belt many years ago. Thanks
What a quality video! Well done Jim!!!! Thank you so very much!

Well that’s what I’m here for to help all you guys and gals fix your machines and save money. Jim

JIM THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH.
@@chrislnflorida5192 the belt that is supposed to be on a snapper is a double V the larger V goes into the pulleys on the engine and the spindle the smaller V goes into the idler pulley you can change and go to a standard V belt, but you have to get a flat idler pulley and replace the original

if you put it in neutral and hold the clutch in, the new belt will easily slide under the transmission wheel .
Managed to replace the belt thanks to your excellent video. Unfortunately i was unable to get the plastic shroud off of the 'blade engaging lever' so it was a bit fiddly. Would have been great if you had included that too :)

Most of the covers are held on with four bolts is yours different. Jim

Great video Jim - not many Snappers up in Queensland so really appreciate your how-to's. Regards
Denis .Hakanson
Where exactly is Queensland
G'Day Jim, Queensland is one of the states in Australia - long coastline and a massive inland area and occupies maybe 1/5th of Australia size. Snappers were a bit expensive so didn't sell too good down here plus a bit small but I love mine for it's design features and the thought that went into it's initial conception. Bit like the original VW. My current problem with my Snapper is a loose belt, and I mean Loose!! I'll follow your advice and adjust. Regards and good luck.

Unfortunately it does add more shipping. I do have someone in Australia already but not in Queensland.
Thanks for your assistance.

Your model needs plastic inserts to expand the frame and believe me if you pull the tube out of the rear case it will make the belt tighter. But if it’s working good then I guess I wouldn’t worry about it. Jim

I talk about that very issue in video number 294. Jim
How expensive are the deck spindles ?? My deck is a hi-vac type with 28 and 33 inch blade diameters. How long does a belt last Jim ?? Thank you for your help and advice Sir. v

Hey Jim,
My belt broke on my Snapper. I think I can replace it ok. My question is before it broke it would do just fine accept if the grass was the least bit damp the belt would slip. Finally breaking it.
That’s because it was stretching just before it broke and it was loose that’s why it would slow down and slip. Jim

Love your videos. They really help me out .
show everyone how to take the plastic cover off.
Dennis Rome
Yes all the newer machines the covers are split for easier removal. Jim
Jim

So what is the right size for the Spindle belt for the snapper 30" with 12.5 HP motor
If you take your model number and go to Partstree.com you’ll be able to find the size of the belt on their website.

Question:
I have a 28in 9hp with a ninja mulching blade.
Logan Witt hi Logan it's Jim
The first thing you want to do is take the belt off of the spindle engage the mower deck as if you were going to mow with it and turn the spindle to see if the spindle is turning freely, if it does then check your belt for bad spots , if the belt looks good put it back on and check the belt tension you want to have about an inch and a quarter between the belt by the idler pulley, try that and let me know if it helps or not talk to you later Jim
It runs the blades while I'm sitting still but then disengages when I start mowing.

Hi it’s Jim
If your blade keeps running when it should be off and you have trouble locking it all the way up that usually means your belt is too tight take the black cover off the top of the deck and see what is going on.
(it may be a 6-sided AA belt)
Hardware and auto parts industrial/fraction belts available in 74 x 1/2" and all cross into the YP #.
The 1/2" belt sits in the BOTTOM of the DEEP motor and spindle pulleys and screeches/slips as the blade comes up to speed.
With blade engaged, engine off, if I attempt to turn the blade, it slips on the engine pulley.
FEAR: afraid the actual YP belt will be 1/2'" and do the same thing
OPINION: use the 74 x 5/8 hardware/auto parts belt.
@@jimjackson9381 UPDATE: Got a genuine Snapper belt and my advice to all is do the same thing. Everything works better with the correct belt.

Mike
OK the 73 3/4 inch belt is for a 33 inch deck
The 72 3/4 inch belt is for a 28 inch and 30 inch deck call them up and tell them you have a 28 inch machine and you need the72 3/4 inch belt.
Jim

i repowered my snapper rider with a briggs motor with a 25mm shaft. I figured the 0.016 difference in shaft diameter wouldn't be a big deal, for the drive disc its not, it works perfect drives around no issue, but the belt now slaps really bad to the point that you can't engage the blade, could this be caused by the slight out of roundness that the crankshaft pulley is at now due to the offset caused by shaft diameter difference? .016 difference between a 25 mm shaft in a 1 inch shaft does not sound like it’s a big deal But and there’s always a butt when it’s spinning at 3000 RPM’s that .016 inch is going to make a lot of difference now if you know somebody that works in a machine shop or you have a machine shop close by you you can stop in and ask them if you could have a small piece of shim stock to cut and fit around your crankshaft and then slide your drive disk over it and that will illuminate the run out issue and you won’t have to get rid of the engine you just got or live with this tremendous vibration issue Give that a shot and see if you can find some shim stock if not send me your name and address to my email and I’ll cut you a piece of shim stock and mail it to you to take care of your issue.
GarrittpwlTV
I think it be much easier to use shim stock. Jim
I have a bracket that looks like a pulley is missing ???? how can i send you a picture.??

How come the deck look so clean?
Well, if you mean, why is the bottom of the deck so clean and shiny is because he has a sandy yard and it’s constantly sandblasting the bottom of the deck that’s not really good I try to clean mine every winter and put a couple coats of paint on it. Jim
Jim, how can I loose the belt too tight!
@@legacytrucking for some reason as a built snappers, they change the way the belts are adjusted as you seen in this video. This one just has a pin and you use spacers. Most of them have a clamp around the tube that kind of resembles a muffler clamp loosen that clamp up and if your belt is too tight, you want to push, the front end or the tube into the rear case and re-tighten your clamp if you don’t have that style or you can’t figure it out take some pictures of it so I can see what you have and I can explain to you how to loosen and or tighten your belt
Hello all, can you please tell me where to purchase Snapper oem parts? Thanks in advance
onesri Hi it's Jim
There's several places to get parts for snappers eBay is one there's a lot of them on the Internet but I get my parts from PartsTree.Com. They have a great easy to follow website for finding your parts and if you have to you can call them directly and actually talk to a sales person to help you find the part that you need. Thanks Jim
I need to find a video on replacing a PTO belt on a Snapper zero turn. can you help ?? Pensacola Fl
What causes the belts to eaten up
A lot of different things how old is the belt how old is the machine are your spindle bearings in good shape has anybody taken off the engine and replaced it that can cause major issues?. Jim
just ordered a new belt for my craftsman snapper mower- what size are the bolts for the cover? so i know what socket to use? thanks, mike
Mike gorton
Mine are 7/16. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 Thanks Jim- snowing here in Rochester NY- guess i'll have to wait to put the belt on now-lol- bought a double v stens belt on amazon -- good price-
Mike gorton
Do you know if you can find a belt locally through a dealer we have a place here called industrial supply that sells any belt that you need you could buy a standard Vbelt and go to a flat idler pulley instead of a V idler pulley and you could probably find a belt a lot cheaper. Jim
tube is stuck on my series 24 snapper how do i break it loose to adjust belt.
Watch video number 350. Jim.
I have the new 2019 classic 33" snapper and want to add an hour meter. What type of hour meter do you recommend and would like details on how to connect the wires to make it work. I have the Intec 15.5 HP engine. Any help is appreciate.

Well you know that’s not a bad idea I don’t have any hour meters on hand I’ll have to find one and I’ll show you how to wire it up, I hope you’re not in a big hurry it may be a week or so let me know if you are. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 I could wait a week and just check back here. I wanted to add a analog style hour meter and also interested in best location to put it. I like this one on Amazon www.amazon.com/Docooler%C2%AE-Hourmeter-Tachometer-Engines-Rectangular/dp/B00V9JHX38/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=hour+meter&qid=1559154389&s=gateway&sr=8-18-spell
I'd really appreciate any help in how to wire it up; As a retired Navy VIetNam vet it would save me $$$ in labor.
Thanks....

Hi jim i have a snapper rider mo# 28083s can you tell me the right size belt or pt# for the blade belt, i called a company told them the mo# and that i needed a blade belt well the belt came today and it's too short i managed to get it on but it's so tight, and thats with no idler. i hope you can help me out Rich.
I built a 73 3/4 inches long part number from Parts Tree.Com. is 7043844. Jim
How do you put belt ob snapper 38" zrider i having issues with new belt
John Hacker You’re gonna have to send me some pictures of that I’ve never worked on one. Jim
I need the part # for the belt
I need your complete model number to find out the size of the belt you need. Jim
what size belt should I buy for a replacement?
Jon McKnight
I measured one of my belts off my snapper it measures 72 1/2 inches long. But if you use a standard Vbelt you're going to have to replace your idler pulley. The snapper drive belt is a double V it is not a standard belt. Thanks Jim
What sizes blet i have put on two they're to long
David Houston
Well what’s the model number of your machine and at least what size is your mower deck and it is a snapper rear engine rider correct. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 thanks you mower shop replace with short one deck is 30" thanks you sir
What length belt goes on a snapper Model 28085 S?
Corey Walter
Snapper doesn't give a size in inches on their belts they just have part numbers cording to my books a 28, 30 and a 33 inch deck all take the same size belt. Thanks jim
What size belt is that?
I would need to know your model number. Jim
Whats the size of the belt
What size is your machine and what is the model number. Jim
Hi Jim I replaced the deck belt but falls off, runs for couple minutes
Leonardo Perez
Did you match it to your old one to see if it was the right size, sounds to me like they sent you the wrong belt. Jim
Jim Jackson no didn’t
Leonardo Perez
What size machine do you have and I’ll see if I can figure out how long the belt should be. Jim

Hi Jim, just replaced my blade belt and the tube has to be extended. I loosened the clamp but the tube is very hard to extend.. battery is removed, should I spray the inside tube with pb blaster to get it to move?
Well the front end twist in the tube or is it froze up
I used a stens 265-199 belt, replaced snapper 7022252YP.
@@dogsarefun2 Well that’s probably OK but will the front pivot in the back or is it froze up
If it pivots or turns you should be able to pull it out and tighten your belt. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 I will try tomorrow..... I tried it before watched your video, mower was not standing up. Tried pulling on front end with my feet on battery compartment by clamp, the tube came out a little bit. I have about 3" of belt space where it is supposed to be 1" .
how in the hell does that plastic cover come off?
Well if you have one of the old ones that the hole for the engagement lever doesn’t have a slot in it it’s a lot harder do you want to put a deck all the way down and just wiggle it out of there it’s not easy. Jim
