- In this video I’m going to explain the two different types of springs on the brake arm on your Snapper. If you have any questions or comments leave them in the box below or send me an email. And as always work safe have fun and keep on Snappen. Jim
Having fun working on my snapper mower Jim but I have certainly learned a lot from you channel!
All the videos of yours Definitely help me with preparing to repair my Comet HV. The fine print details keep from doing these things a nightmare
Thank you

Well I’m glad I can help you and thanks for being a viewer and I hope your a subscriber talk to you soon Jim
Very helpful Jim, my 95 year old father in law has one good snapper and five scrappers, (one is a Comet) in his later years he stopped maintaining them and now it is my honor to clean them up and make them ready to sell, we tried for years to get him on lawn tractors but he was stubborn about it, I've never understood why anyone likes these things, I've always found them horrid, cheers!
It sounds to me like you probably never used one. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 I always used lawn tractors and you are right, I'm just not a fan of the snapper.
Be very careful, and don’t ever use one. Or you will be hooked. Jim
A seldom seen procedure that is well worth knowing!
Jim you’re video are really educational. Help me fix my snapper and keep it ticking
I confess, it took me a while to figure out how to get that old style spring back in place. 😀 Wish my old Snapper had those wide tires.
Tony A
I do have some wider tires for sale that are used. Jim
Thanks for your videos man. I think my RER might be an older style, but I still find a lot of this stuff applicable. I bought it used a couple years ago and I have zero regrets. Belt gave up the ghost last time I was out. Plastic bushing flange stripped and the front wheels suddenly became 4 inches closer to the back wheels. I made my repair, belt is tight again. Mowed again. But the brakes went to the floor. Clutch still works great. I don't remember there being any adjustment on the front. There was a large cable with a ferrule crimped to the end. It went to the pedal, and there was a small cable that was crimped directly onto the large cable....I guess the adjustment is on the back of the mower?
Very well expkaind jim as allways
As always thanks again for these helpful videos as I am replacing my worn brake lever assembly and noticed the spring was missing so I ordered that too. One thing I noticed that might have caused premature wear is that I modified the clutch assembly by drilling out the 5 holes and putting bolts with nuts creating a more locking clutch setup like one of your videos. I think the heads of the bolts on the inside of the hub might have hit on the brake pad during operation and over time destroyed the brake shoe.
Yes if you have that small break in the side of the clutch disk assembly you have to use flat head screws and make them flush with the inside otherwise the break could lock up. Jim
great detailed instruction, thanks.
Thank you for watching and commenting if you need any help with anything let me know. Jim
Great fix it yourself there DR SNAPPER 👍👍😀😃😃😁
Thanks for another detailed video....
Terry from Texas, having trouble ordering chain case gasket and spring hooks on chain case
Well, you live in the best state ever to buy parts, I order most all my parts from Parts Tree.Com in Texas check them out right in your home state. Jim
I have a problem with my rider snapper mod E331518KVE The disc in gear is blocked while in neutral it turns. The gears are engaged, but the wheels do not move, only by pushing the vehicle by hand thanks to the help
What is the part called at 6:51? I am missing this snap ring (but the cheap plastic part is not damaged)
and of course my brake cable keeps coming loose - I rigged up a small zip tie to fit around the end of the assembly and it's good for a couple of uses of the mower.
I am using your videos to help me with maintenance and replacing the clutch and yolk. My bar is straight but I would like to purchase the upgraded bar from you. I'll look around for how to order, otherwise I may need instructions. Thanks.

Talk to you soon. Jim
Any tips on what to use as a replacement for the newer style spring? They are not available at parts dealers. Maybe just bend the arms of a torsion spring to fit?
Would you happen to have any of the newer springs for sale?
If you go to perchtree.com in Texas I’m sure they’ll have the springs you need. Just use your model number to look up the proper one. Let me know if you have any problems.
Damn lotta work Jim!! Later😊
Well let me know if there’s anything I can help you with and I’ll talk to you later. Jim
I have a Craftsman T240 it's a cross between a Lawn/Garden tractor weighs 620 pounds I wish I could lift it up like you can that Snapper
I have a tractor jack that you can lift your machine up with with very little effort it’s called a MoJack I believe I got it from Menards everyone sells them they’re right around $100 and I lift up my thousand pound Ingersoll garden tractor with it with no problem it’ll lift the front end up almost 3 feet, hope that helps. Jim
Thank you very much!
If we don't get any better brakes after doing all these adjustments, do we need a new brake? If so do you have a video on that? thanks
If you could send me a picture of your brake arm I can tell you if it needs replacing or not. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 Thanks for the fast response. We are on vacation until after the holiday but will send it when we return! Love your videos - they are really helpful.
OK I will be waiting. Jim
Do you have a part number for the newer style spring? I'm looking on Parts tree and can't find the spring. Thanks
Hi Jim , at around 11 minutes you said spring goes under the chain case then snaps into that hole , what hole are you talking about ?
It’s a slot with a small hole above it. The spring goes through the slot in the end of the spring goes in the small hole. Jim
Thanks and thumbs up.
Does the broken spring stop the lawnmower moving forward and backward that’s my problem?
If it is the spring on the yolk under the machine yes it will stop it from moving. Jim

If you have your Model number go to Parts Tree.Com and they will help you find what you need if you go to their homepage you can get their phone number and they will answer the phone and help you. Jim
What is the part number for the brake spring? Thanks
@@markappelbaum1438 if you have your model number, you can find all the parts you need on Parts Tree.Com
Jim check your volume on your videos some are very quiet.
Sorry sometimes I Forget to plug in my microphone. Jim
Question??? I found the answer in video #144,,,
Adjusting brake cable tension and what gear you should be in when doing so. Also brake position on or off? Might as well ask about the position of the foot blade clutch step plate and blade engaged or off or does it matter??/ Great videos Thanks. The Manuals don't give all the inf or step by step process. PS... Not installing cables just adjusting them all after installing a new blade drive belt.

I thought you were going to show us how to install the early type spring
Did you watch the entire video number 272 I show you how to install both style springs the old style and the new style. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 i did but i cant find hole for the other end of spring on trans case
What type of spring do you have the old one or the new one?. Jim
Old style as I mentioned I don’t see the hole on the diff housing Thanx
@@jimjackson9381 old supposedly the easy one
my clear a bell model and serial numbers are not findable at any of the souse's that I have tried,, in your 272 vidio,, this is what I seek to do,, yesterday, a former snapper dealer told me, that the little light weight spring is no longer available,, they did find it in an old book,, can you purhaps share with me, the part number and where I can purchase that hard to install, coiled break spring you installed in vidio 272? my model is a 28 " rope start 25609t serial # 15006874? Thanks
What spring are you talkin about, the one in the mower deck or the one on the yolk, if you could send me a picture that would really help of the spring and where it goes you can send it to my email which is
jimsfixitshop@gmail.com thanks Jim
It would have been better if you’d shown a close up of the spring installed without the clutch .
Well, I do the best I can I work alone
I dont know how to send a pic,,, The brake shoe spring,,, old easy style verses the hard to install one,,,, You have to remove the friction ring and the hub it is bolted to accomplish this,, the old easy spring I am told is now longer available,, but I have it all apart,, 15/16 socket,,, old screw driver leaning over the fender spreader New spring looks alot like a cloths pin spring with the circular coil in the middle,,, vidio # 272
Let me check with White Lake nursery to morrow and see if they can order some and I’ll get back with you. Jim
OK I checked with my dealer that I usually go to and I called Parts tree and that L-shaped spring is no longer available you have to use the one with the loop in the middle that goes around the bolt on the bottom of the chain case sorry to say the other ones were much easier to use. That part number from Parts tree is 7061197YP and it sounded like they had them in stock. Jim
I checked with my supplier and Parts Tree.Com. and neither one has any more of those in stock you have to use the one that goes around the bolt on the bottom of the chain case and the part number is 7061197YP. Jim
