    I’m pretty proud of my operation quite frankly. It’s proven itself. I am always learning and getting ideas via this internet thing and from my neighboring producers. I know your not talking about me, I don’t think I’ve ever commented here before.
    But hey, I’m an opinionated harpy type of farmer. After 21 years of being told I’m going to go broke, the past 3 years I’ve been in the top 3 bpa corn yields and I’m right smack dab in the heart of the corn belt. I’ve never sprayed a chemical or used synthetic fertilizer yet.
    I ain’t gonna lie to ya, new ground early in the reformation phase does not yield well, but it usually always yields what I want it to based on soil, sap and tissue sampling.
    When I see people doing something that I’ve personally dealt with, sometimes learning a lesson at the same time, I can’t not make a comment. Sorry lol
    “Hey, great job using cover crops, but why are you chemically terminating it when you can let it go and get literal toms of fertility per acre by roller crimping it up to 30days after you put your beans in”
    “Why does your family have you on suicide watch over the price of anhydrous when you can do a few simple things and get a yield increase while only using 50-85 pounds…”
    “Ya know, 45 units of glyphosate is not cable of doing any more than 15-16, ever considered dialing that back.”
    Yep, I am proudly “THAT GUY!” But after decades of watching me buy up land, they don’t run away from me at the coffee shop anymore. During the lockdown, my farm shop sort of became the new coffee shop for the local farmers. My kids turned it into a little side hustle for themselves. Frying up eggs and bacon.
    You actually run one hell of an operation, and if you were my neighbor, we’d be putting back some Bush Lite together. But you would have to put up with me, as well as show me what you know.

    I really appreciate your videos and the way you address these types of issues without saying who it is as that is what they are wanting. You are a very busy man with the farm, your job, UA-cam videos and seeing the little Lady. The type of individual you are talking about needs to get a life and smell the roses. I would tell young people to follow their dreams not what others would like them to do. Have a great weekend Ben.

    In Alberta. The major packing plants will no longer buy holstein steers. I know farmers who have been feeding these things for two years. They will lose 3000 dollars on every steer.

  • @patrickpowers1354
    @patrickpowers1354 6 років тому

    I haul livestock to two weekly sales and I have been to hundreds of farms over the years. One thing I have learned is what works for you on your farm doesn’t mean it will work on mine. Every operation is different and that is great. I personally get questioned and ridiculed at times for what I do here on my farm. I do things differently than most and they cannot understand how I do it. That is okay it works for me and that is all that matters. I don’t give people a hard time for how they do things mainly because I don’t care how they do it. Besides a friend of mine that had a dairy once told me you can learn more from a bad farmer than a good one. In a way that makes a lot of sense.

  • @rogerwilson9361
    @rogerwilson9361 6 років тому

    Ben, don't let a troll bring you down and best thing to do is address it before it happens again. You do work off the farm with long drives from the farm to work site and back to the farm and it seem to me you don't have much time but to work long hours on the farm. It works for you than keep doing what works for you and farms don't run the same way.

    Good for you (not that you need my approval) for not giving this person publicity. Obviously what they are seeking. nN publicity is bad, negative or positive, so glad you handled it the way you did. I am so worn through with people elevating themselves via belittling or trying to show, in your face, that they are smarter or know more then you. Can’t even read the comments on videos because it is just so ridiculous. Then I found myself attacking back at those attacking the folks taking the time and effort to make videos. I think I was being a reverse “troll” lol, dang it. This format is for entertainment and education, for me. There is also good content in some of the comments. Too bad others need to use it for their own maliciousness. So, thanks for rising above and sharing positivity. Have a beautiful day!
