The Presenter is right. Humor is a complex subject. However, I believe that having a sense of humor and having the ability to create it are vastly different things. I was resident political cartoonist on a British newspaper. There is no point in wisdom unless John Doe understands it enough to practice it. So while my editor could spend several worthy columns explaining a serious issue, all I was permitted was a one-frame drawing. Not easy. It made huge demands on lateral and analytical thinking. I had to think way outside the box so I could dispassionately dissect my target from a distance. I had to ask questions many would prefer were not asked. I have the deepest interest in anthropologic perception, reason, psychology, communication, education and the systems based on them. Satirical humor is a dark art. Thinking outside the box is a dangerous and dark place. So with some, humor and depression can go together. I found that two famous cartoonists of my acquaintance to be depressed and humorless. Both committed suicide. Many comedians nearly drink themselves to death. While I enjoy a cheap joke as much as any one else, the best compliment you can give me on many others is not with a belly-laugh but with a wry look as if to say "Heck: I never thought of it that way." I can joke with deathly intent. I am a devout believer in Voltaire's adage: "Judge not a man on what he knows but on the questions he asks." When I drafted my response to this video initially, it covered two pages. But, I thought, heck - why give away ideas that have taken me years to write? I would like to do a presentation like xx above. But there are problems with that. I am not young (I am 80) and no longer pretty even though I was once seduced by a famous actress. I don't wear glasses. In particular, I have no academic letters after my name. Who would take my theses seriously? Nice job. I teach psychology and have taught comedic writing/acting. I was also a stand-up comedian and improvisor. This information was beneficial. I have always put a section of humor in my psychology curriculum. Positive humor is important in personal growth.
Your hair comes way down under your glasses. There’s no forehead. 😳 I am also uncomfortable around sheep dogs. Can you please help me understand? Thanks.
Sorry I didn't learn anything from this. I want to know why I find Soupy Sales hilarious. I seem to laugh WITH Soupy as he cracks-up at the absurdity of his own skits.
I appreciate the video - Humor is so valuable in life! I discuss the importance of humor & the purpose of my channel in my last video. I hope videos like ours inspire people to see humor in life!
YES! I have completely different ideas about humor than people I have met. I feel like it has nothing to do with threat or pain relief, but everything to do with connecting to others, oxytocin, trust,, mirth, and just plain FUN! When I hear other people say their “theories” of humor, it sounds to me like they don’t have humor. 😳🤷♀️ only pissed -offness
As a counselor who uses humor therapeutically this is fabulous

I use the word behave instead of act with people referring to how you use behave.
It is remarkable how something offensive can be simultaneously humorous.
