- Donnie Sutherland on Sounds and After Dark:
Donnie talking to Robert Smith, Lol Tolhurst and Simon Gallup of The Cure.
This interview was taken during The Cure's second tour of Australia in 1981.
At 2:12 Robert Smith's call for a support band with a female leadsinger and a drum machine would be answered by the Sydney-based Newcastle band Pel Mel. If you're interested, check out Pel Mel's 1981 music video ''No Word From China'' (not quite a three piece, but certainly close to The Cure's lane).
Sounds/Sound Unlimited first introduced the Australian public to The Cure when the show played their music video to ''10:15 Saturday Night'' back in 1978.
Unfortunately, the first few seconds of this interview wasn't recorded in time.
"If you want to work with the Cure, get down to the theater at about 4:3o this afternoon." Prepare the DeLorean we're going back 40 years
I’m so in love w Simon during this era
He was very cute.
The UA-cam algorithms just recommended this video. The mad part is I clearly remember seeing it once on TV 40 years ago, the first time I saw or heard the Cure.
I've never seen this interview - thank you for sharing!
Brilliant interview of The Cure from 1981. Thanks for the video.
Simon is so gorgeous omg i’m so in love with him
I’m so in love with young Simon
At fifteen years thought that this level of expression appears to common meaning. Thirteen years after i am very proud to have chosen this band, The Cure
yahhh for Donnie bring back Donnie we love Donnie
Well done Donnie. Great interview
Simon is so cute, i'm blushing
Splendire!! Many thanks for this sharing

OH MY GOD YOUR PROFILE PICTURE MADE ME SCREAM
@@weathercade robert smith gang
@@flowers2burn hell yeah
I see Simon wearing an early incarnation of a mullet or what i would call a Goth Mullet.
Thanks for sharing this !
Never seen this one online. Great interview, Donnie!
At around 2:00 Robert Smith says something that makes Simon giggle. I bet that it was some kind of internal joke to foul people outside the band.
I think it's just because he says : Simons "older" brother, which makes Simon seem like the young kid
Donnie did so many great interviews
I can't enough of robert!!!
2:20 Oh. Ok... So this is what a TV hosts looked like when make-up wasn't mandatory for them. You could actually see signs of tiredness and genuine dark rings under the eyes on TV. Good old times of authenticity !👍
Thank you for sharing ! 😉
He had an operation to have those dark rings removed. Fact.
Gracias 🇦🇷 ...
He was extremely beautiful guy, omg wtf
never heard anyone describe lol like that before but I can see what you're saying
Haha... Robert & his naughty lies!!!
Why is nobody talking about how pretty lol is hes literally angelic
Robert’s wearing his sparkly pants!
Can anybody identify the music in the background?
@James Murray thanx
Yes ..
It's not Yes
Boys just luv playing with the makeup box
fun fact - All Cats are grey was about Donnie's eyes
A 15 ans je pensais que ce niveau d’expression à 22 ans constituait le sens commun. 30 ans après je les écoute comme des ovnis. Pas peu fier d’avoir choisi ce groupe.
A time nobody cool had a bear !
Wow! What an opportunity, get yourself down to the Capitol, I wonder how many showed up.
Pel Mel
@@welovedonnie if there was more than one act that showed up, Pel Mel were the winners of the support slot... Pel Mel were a good post-punk band for a hot second.
