Hi Boss. I’m from Iowa. And we have lots of corn. 🌽 And humidity. One acre of corn can release 4000 gallons of water into the air per day. 🤪Summers are scorchers !! When I was a kid my sister and I would play in the corn field by our house. You could find patches of corn that were indeed tiny, but they weren’t always on the edges of the field. Sometimes in the middle. The neat thing was the dirt that was around the plants was white and sandy like on a beach. It was awesome. We had our own little paradise right in the middle of the cornfield. Isn’t that funny ? As an adult I realize the corn was tiny because of that sandy soil. Lol We have farmers that grow field corn , that usually will grow different varieties of corn and sell it out of the back of their trucks. It usually is always good and cheap. Corn is one of my favorite vegetables. Yum ! Thanks for the video ! Take care :)

@@DonnaBeaudin I looked it up. From Cornell University. Corn is a grain and a type of fruit. Like Wheat, Millet and Oats. But botanically and scientifically no. It was actually a good read on corn. It’s delicious that’s what I know :) Thanks Donna :)

Well done Boss! We live south in Rhode Island, and my 80 year old neighbor used to say, "Don't get anxious to plant. Wait until Memorial Day weekend."

Try making your corn on the cob in the microwave. Put the ear , husk and all in the microwave for 3 minutes. Cut the butt end off, and squeeze the ear out of the husk. It comes out perfectly clean with no silk. ENJOY.

I haven't had a microwave in years but they're good baked in the husk in the fire coals :-)

Now this is what I call a man who is not only articulate but speaks good English and knows what he is talking about and is rather amusing. Thankyou. I cannot sing enough praise because the standard of English across the diagonal in UA-cam is atrocious. You must be in the upper 5 - 10 %. Nobody seems to think good English as important ( to survival, ) anymore, like history. I suppose it's hard to keep up because "they" keep on changing words and the meanings. 😮😏

@@terryporche9059 I was jokingly looking for SEED PACKS for that out of a catalog. :)) Not the actual male hog. Can't get bacon seeds out of a catalog either. I guess you might pardon my warped sense of humor, or not. On the serious side there are no wild hogs (yet) that I know of in JC's neck of the woods. I grew up in New England.

Great video!!!! We raise all our corn this way and as you showed IT WORKS!!! We have enough room and a large enough area that we can not only raise our sweet corn but put out a small patch of popcorn and rotate our chicken pasture with dent corn for them as well, start it indoors early, let it grow to where its bigger and can take a lot more hard knocks but once we transplant it out, it takes off to the races!!! THANK YOU for bringing this type of corn growing out!! A grower in Ohio, THUMBS UP Sir!!!
Thank you kindly. Last year, some of what we started got away from us before we could transplant. It got too tall and was blowing over. I had to stake some like the tomatoes haha. Head high by the 4th of July ;-))

This video is ironic because I am going to try mulching and not watering this year. I am originally from New Hampshire but am now in Oregon-long story! I am going to use a combination of compost and wood chips to mulch my plants and I start all my own seeds except herbs like oregano, thyme and basil because they are so tiny. Thanks for sharing!

I love floating seed trays. I got them using your amazon site. Two sizes. They work perfectly. I was in the nursery, garden center business for twenty years. You made me a believer.

Our success with corn here in central Montana is always hit or miss. We had a great crop last year, but several years before that we didn't get anything. I've always heard that corn didn't transplant well so we never tried it, but it sure looks like you have success with it so we'll have to give it a try this year!
It transplants very well. Usually 100% success with it, just don't let it get too tall before you plant them. Keep them under 14" or so.
Well that's some really good advice. I might have to try that. The best luck i have with corn is going to a farmers market and just buying it. Thank you for taking time to film, edit and post this video.

Yes, West Michigan frost date is May 15 th. Plant before that Jack frost will teach you a hard lesson. I haven't grown corn because of the reasons you stated. Well, I am going to give your method a try this year. Love fresh, sweet corn. Thank you.
We've been growing corn near South Haven for a few years now. It's done well every year planting it straight in the ground.
I am north of Muskegon. We get 90 miles of Lake Michigan weather vs your bottom of the lake.

Good job boss , I’ve been using stokers for years because that’s what my dad did , and I live in northern Alberta so our growing season is short for corn so it can be a challenge also having to water these last few years but it seems to work out , thanks for all your content take care and God bless.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge learned from trials and errors lol. We did growing corn and up in Massachusetts. Though we didn't dedicate a large area like you and yield was low, but we were proud we succeeded. Oh and the sprouted that get full grown, I ate them cob and all, baby corn is the best!

Shouldn't be a problem because we grew awesome corn in northern NY just on the other side of the St Lawrence.

Hi boss! Thanks for sharing some of your growing secrets or methods rather. We've never had very good luck growing corn , onions as well. We're cursed with hungry deer in our neighborhood and it's not legal to harvest those juice little rascals. But they ate most of our garden late year along with my wife's flowers. So we're not real sure if a garden will be grown this year.
Surprisingly, I've never had any troubles with wildlife in the garden. Even where there's no fence and I have no explanation for it because we have moose and bears in the yard all the time.
Corn cooking tip. I put them on the grill in the husk , no need to soak in water just cook them on the grill and then toss them in a cooler and shut the lid. Then grill your meat of choice while the corn is steaming itself in the cooler. Works great

Hello J.C. , and Lori! Here in the Midwest, we speak fluent corn! Growing up in a farming community in Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin, I came to know varieties of both field and sweet corn. I worked on farms during the harvest, hauling loads and running grain elevators, and going for day long periods to get the grain in before bad weather broke.
I gotta confess, though, I have never grown corn, as I have always had so much of it around, it didn't take much effort to go find some! LOL! I gotta say, you look like you have found the perfect strategy to overall max yield for your corn field! Looks like good pickings right there!

Thank You JC. Good info as always. We had snow at "38" degrees this morning. Then the air filled with fog like "stuff" and I could hear the fighter jets above the canopy. By the sound of them(more than 2) they were pretty low. Lord only knows what they were "distributing" so I spent the day in the cabin catching up on the news next to my Jotul 602 wood stove. On a brighter note, I signed a "wildfire mitigation" contract with the state DNR this week. They're paying me 14 g's to do what I have already done to half of my 20 acres of Ponderosa. Getting paid to work on my own property, how cool is that?(lol) Arlo, 'my' border collie has taken to bringing branches to the burn pile.

That's awesome! The tankers have been spraying us everyday this past week and even at night. Same few jets. I know because I track their registration numbers. What part of the country are you in? I could give you info where you can track all the missions flown over your head and see just what they're doing.
@@thebossoftheswampHi JC, I live in north central WA 20 miles from Canadastan. 3100 ft ele out on a knoll on a mountain side with a million dollar view, but I do get pounded by the wind sometimes(lol). My outfit is a bit more rustic than yours but comfy. I've been learning from Dane since 2011. I've met hm in person in Redding Californiastan in 2016. I have 20 acres of young Ponderosa that are all in "decline". The freeze burn of chemical ice nucleation has taken a toll and the extreme UV has too. Soils are so saturated with toxic metals the root clusters of fallen trees are shockingly small. It does me good to know you're out there on the fringe like I am. If I had an email, I'd send you some pictures of this place and my border collie, Arlo. You'd like it here.

We’ve followed you for years. I bought the candy corn and they sprouted in 3 days!!! Wow!! They doubled in size the first week. My question is: What do u add to the red cups when you transplant the seedlings? Fertilizer or compost? Potting mix? Thank u…im almost ready to transplant to cups.
I don't add anything, just potting soil. They sprout fast and grow quick so I don't start until approx May 7th here. Otherwise they get too tall and break in the wind since they didn't have time to harden off.

Cow manure but we mostly use compost. That's what all those leaves are that I was dumping on the garden.
LOL...got 22 inches where I am (White Mountain Region). But more to the point - crowing corn is something I am interested in (4x12x24 raised beds) and who better to get that information from than a neighbor:). What do you have regarding growing "carrots" up here? God Bless:)
