Hey Kev off subject a little. I have a 20gal I'm getting ready for fish. It has bacteria in filter and all however the ammonia is 0.25. When I do my water change Monday should I do 50% and be good or what?
How do they relax and sleep though with a wave maker?
Please help
just thank you for being a brother that's not acting a fool about the hobby . you come across quite intelligent
Lol Thank you! I appreciate that 😊
Exactly why i subscribed! Just ran into one of your shorts & instantly sub'd Thank you!
That comment is offensive.
How a brother act as fool on the hobby? Haha
Passive aggressive but as a POC, I see what he’s saying. It’s great to see
Ive watched about 15 videos for wavemakers, just clicked on yours. Holy crap you're no nonsense and right to the point. you answered like 5 of my questions just in this one video. Nice job man!
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful! 😁 I try to keep that same energy on most of the channel! Hope you enjoy!
Here’s another really good one - ua-cam.com/video/-GxwWc_riuA/v-deo.html
I have used yout trick with water circulation. My aquarium looks amazing now and the aggression went down. Thank you for your help
Lukasz Kusmirek Thats awesome!! 👏 So glad I could help! 😊
Since the last upload on wave maker in a tank I haven’t looked back, in fact I eventually bought another for the opposite side as advised by yourself.
Kev, I find your advice and content invaluable and I’m sure so many viewers have also benefited from your advice.
Many thanks 🙏

Hey Kev! Thanks for all of the inisights with you many video on how to keep my Cichlids happy. Yes, I have added a Wavemaker to my tank and gotten rid of the bubblers. However, my brain has been mulling over the "gas exchange" concept. Most everyone stuggles to keep the tops of the tank tight to prevent our friends from getting out and other critters from getting in. Yet when we almost seal off the top of the tank , , , how do we get fresh new air into the tank without air stones? With the top sealed we are keeping all of the bad gases in the tank and only exchanging bad gas with bad gas. As my Cichlids are not ever trying to jump out of the tank, I have removed the feeding lid from my setup. Now I believe I will be giving the tank access to some fresh air of the gas exchange to really happen. I have been without my feeding lid for about 2 weeks and have also found that I no longer have algee building up on the remaiing glass lid areas.
Did I miss something in one of your videos or is this something that may need to be considered.
Thanks,
Chuck
First video of yours I have ever watched!! Great info, all made sense. Great channel!
Thanks bro, hope I made a Sub out of you! 😊
Wish I had teachers like you in college 😂 i had two wave makers set up for my baby Mbunas but noticed the current was a little too strong for them so I unplugged one and have the other on for surface agitation til they mature enough. So far they love it! Thanks Kev!
Lol thanks...glad the info was helpful for you. You did the right thing, stick with one until they grow a bit 😊
That adorable parrot fish in the beginning of the video is just as curious as we are. 😍🐟
Thank you very much for that very helpful information. 👍❤️

Great advice, thanks so much. Gping to get my 2nd wave maker for the bottom of the african cichlid tank this weekend. 👍
Another fantastic video as always !
Much love from canada,

Much appreciated! 😊
Appreciate the link. My juvenile mbuna appear not to dig the wavemaker current just yet. They run for the cover of their rocks and caves. I just put in two wavemakers about 4" from the surface pointing downward. One across the back glass, the other up front. They run 30 mins every three hours. The Hydors kick up detritus for sure.
Additionally, I reinstalled the Eheim pre-filters on both canisters.
Thanks for the information and conversation.
I got the two wave makers that you used in your tank on my new 75 gallon and they really helped cycle that water around. I got a FX6 with this tank and the big fan along with the FX6 output flow make great surface agitation that I was amazed to see.
That is awesome! Glad I could help! 😁💪

Thank you for your videos! You’ve saved my life, haha. (From the missus) I brought a sunsun wave maker and it is dead silent! Where as my aquasyncro one, vibrants louder then my air pump does and at night all you can hear while trying to sleep is vibrating
That’s awesome! Glad you’re enjoying the channel! 😊
I love all your videos, the best on youtube by far , you have helped me heaps , cheers mate
Thanks bro, So glad to hear that! 😊
Hi, appreciate all the great content. Question, are wave makers good for a discus setup?
Not typically. They prefer still calm water.
Thanks Bro, this totally worked!
My water is super clear and It keep my sand super clean.

Love your content. Can I use ware maker on Arowanas tanks? Thanks
Absolutely!
Great content! Keep them coming! Thanks
Thanks, will do!
Hey Kev. Love the channel! You have helped me quite a bit with setting up my tank with your informational videos. I recently went away from using an air stone and converted to wave makers after watching your videos. I have a 55g tank, but am wondering if two is too much for a 55g. I currently have one up top for surface agitation, and one on the opposite end in the corner pointing towards the filter intake. What are your thoughts on this? Is one wave maker fine for a 55g? Or keep the two in there.
Same here. I installed one for surface agitation and waste picker-upper. The other is put away but not sure if I should install it either
Another banger
Just got a wave maker for my 20 gallon . My filter is centered in back. Do put my wave make upwards position in the middle of the aquarium glass ?
Love your content and your tanks. Both are very well put together. Keep it up, bro.
Thank you bro! will do! 😁
Well said👏🏽

Mine have been on 24/7 (125g) for years now. I don't turn them off except when cleaning tank. I had 2 but one unit died and the 2nd one is showing it's age. I am about to buy another unit soon. I have the Fluval FX6 and extended the output and made it the 2nd unit to help push the water toward the intake side. Like your fish, my Africans Cichlids love the flow and have fun swimming into the flow.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience with us! 👍
What would you recommend as I have large tank with a sump. Weir is at the top and outlet is at the top on the same side. Would you face the outlet one way and put the wave maker the other side from the weir at the bottom in this case?
I have a 250 gallon tank. 1 can on the left and top filters on the top 1 on each side. I have very larg cichlids
I am ordering my wave maker today thank you so much for this advice😯

Hey Kev, nice work again . Just wondering , you never mention the use of power heads. Why is that..?
I just prefer wave makers 😊
Would like to see you do a review of the maxspect gyre pump.
Hey boss hope all is well. Got a question for ya. Will a wave make be ok in a 55gal tentra tank. Will they be ok with the current?
Great video
Thanks!
@@KaveManAquatics Mind if I bounce a related question off of you? I'm setting up a heavily planted 120 gallon that'll be a community tank (Corys, CPD, Kuhli Loaches, and a couple Ranchus), but because I have thick substrate and a plenun I wanted to be extra careful about picking up detritus. The fancy goldfish especially don't like too much flow though, so I was wondering if you had any thoughts for how little "on time" and how little power the powerheads positioned towards the bottom of the aquarium would need to be effective at stirring up the detritus enough for it to get sucked up by the filters like you described.
On top of my Canister and an HOB, I already have a 260 GPH submersible Fluval filter filled with sponges im going to put near the bottom, but I was thinking of putting a tiny 53 GPH powerhead in the opposite corner towards the bottom so help stir up the bottom a bit and keep waste from settling too much. My question, however, was 1) do you think that a little 53 GPH powerhead would be strong enough to do what I'm thinking, or should it perhaps be stronger considering the filter will be nearly 4 feet away? Obviously it could be lot stronger, but I don't want to blow the fish around too much or risk it blowing my substrate away (Safe T Sorb is pretty light). My other question, 2) was how many hours a day do you think I'd have to let it run to notice a difference in the amount of detritus accumulation? I am going to use a wifi smart-plug, so in theory I could have it just run for a few hours all at once or something, or I could have it just turn on for a couple minutes periodically just to help stir stuff up or something.
Then there's also the possibility of getting a second tiny powerhead and putting it in a third location or something to consider haha
Obviously I know that you probably can't tell my with any certainty what would work, but I still thought you might have some valuable insight,
Thank you so much!
So first, the power heads shouldnt be pointed at the substrate, they should be angles upwards to break the surface tension. They will also pull detritus towards them from the bottom, achieving detritus removal by way of your filter intakes. And yes 53 gph will not be strong enough for your 120 to move enough waste, but you're fish may not accept anything stronger than that.
I leave my wavemakers on 24/7 and only turn them off for feeding. But your fish aren't going to like that. Your goldfish especially may not like any extra current at all.
Unfortunately wave makers may not work for your current stock.
Thanks for all the info, it's very useful, i guess you are right about all the facts. I got Arowana, Kaloi, Lampan with wave maker all live in harmony :)
Awesome!
Thank you for all this information you gave to us it’s really help. but i would like to ask you if I have a kind of small fish do you think it’s working well with this fan it’s not death by sticking on it?!
If fish die for any reason, they will eventually stick to the wave maker. Doesnt mean the wave maker killed them. But with small fish you have to make sure the flow isnt too strong for them. They should still be able to swim where they want.
Hi where do you put the output of an fx6 if you have one wavemaker? The input in the same side as the wavemaker? Put the output in the middle facing the same side?

Hey! I just found your channel and I’ve been checking out some vids and they’re amazing! I recently just got fish and I’m still figuring everything out! Do you think i should get a wave maker for my 9gal fish tank? Amazing video btw!
Thank you, glad you're enjoying the channel. 9 gal is too small for a wave maker. Go with an airstone for good water movement and surface agitation
@@KaveManAquatics thank you!!!
Hi mr kev. Im frm Malysia. How are you. Very good explaination frm your youtube channel. I already used the wave maker. How long the wave maker to turn on?. Thanks mr kev.
Thanks bro, If your fish are the type that enjoy the current, you can leave it on 24/7. I never turn mine off 😁
For a 75 gallon what size wave makers do I need one for the top and one for the bottom I need the size
Thank you for this info. Very useful!
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative bro. Now I am considering a wave maker to help with aggression. Definitely gotta do research for central and north American cichlids.
Definitely helpful for aggression, like night and day for my guys! 😊
@@KaveManAquatics Very helpful bro especially when it comes to the best places to put them in the tank. Makes a lot of sense, thank you.
Would wave makers be good for a tank with bottom feeding fish ?
What about puffers ?
Just found your videos, and they are great. Have a small 10 gal tank, as I'm just starting out, currently using my filter and one airstone for O2 surface agitation. Is there a minimum size tank that you should consider a wave maker?

great info, i had to watch it twice because i was getting distracted from the cute coral colour fish on the right just staring at the camera haha
haha, watch it as many times as you need! LOL
I have 2 tanks. They arent that long but they are pretty deep. One of the is 60 cm wide and 55 cm in height (40 in depth, 120litre). Have a juwel bio something in the right corner. With a single fan wavemaker.
The other is 60 cm wide and 75 cm in height (75in depth, 330litre) with a Fluval 407 with intake to the right and output on the left. Haven't got a wavemaker for that yet. (Gonna start the tank up in a couple of days)
Where should I put my WaveMakers to get that detritus clearing effect?
On the same side as the intake? Even if they are that deep?
Learned a lot from you btw, encouraged me to get a second tank👍😃
Hello! I just found your channel and love it! It’s very informative and direct to the point. Keep the good content coming! Question: I’m setting up an Oscar tank (55 gal). I have a canister filter and will be adding a bio sponge filter. Would you recommend add the wave makers?
Thanks bro! Glad you're finding the channel helpful! Before thinking about wave makers...you need a bigger tank. Oscars get huge...and their minimum tank size requirement is about 75-125 for just 1 Oscar.....if you start out with an oscar in a 55 he will quickly outgrow it, and when he does he will be super stressed in that tank.
@@KaveManAquatics yeah, that’s what I’m reading everywhere. That’s for your input
My pleasure, good luck bro 💪
I found your site and have learned so much! I have a 20 gallon long mainly with guppies and tetras. I have a double sponge filter, but I am noticing lots of detritus on the bottom of my tank. I have clear water with low nitrates because the tank is heavily planted. I am trying to decide if I should add a small wave maker, or add an HOB on the tank. Any suggestions?
Would you recommend 1 or 2 wave makers for a 3ft tank?
Great information and beautiful, classic African Cichlid tank. I have a 125 gallon African setup with two Eheim 2217's and 2 FX6's. I'd still like more surface agitation though, so I am looking into a strong wave maker.
Thanks! Glad you found the video helpful. Great set up you have there. Check out my more recent videos, I now have a 210 African Set up 😁
I have a 75 gallon with 1 large Oscar I looked online and they prefer slow current what type of wave maker set up would I need?
Is wave makers good for a tank with bottom feeders ? What about puffers ?
Electric Blue Acara. More flow? Or less flow? Thanks.
Hi Kev, in an overstocked cichlids tank, do we really need to run a wave maker in winter?
You dont ever "need" to run a wave maker. But if you choose to run one the season really doesnt matter. They'll enjoy it all year round 😊
Great video... can and how do you adjust the "flow mode" for the free-sea wavemaker?
Thanks! 😊 Those dont have adjustment. The bigger Uneclife wave maker does.
Hey I realize this is a year ago but.. You said in the beginning u would explain the difference in wave makers & bubbler..beside wave makers does more. I heard everything u said. I see u still usr the air strip pad. I'm confused if I do indeed need it too. Tia
Your video is simply great 👍,
I have a aquriam , I do water changer regularly but my water No2 very good and No3 very bad and GH also very high.... this is something my tap water already have them ,
How can I reduce the NO3 and GH apart from water change...
I am already running 2nd filter should I add more media in it ?
Also I don’t have weave maker I am going to add one soon
A second filter and/or more media will not reduce Nitrates. Only water changes and live plants can reduce nitrates.
Can I use a wavemaker on my 20 gallon? If so, what size. Im having black scum on my glass and plants. I do have a spoge filter and airstone already
Hey Kev… My Uarus don’t like the current (like Discus) they drop down in a corner so I run wave maker periodically to clean up substrate.. I put a big sponge filter in my 150 man what a difference.. next filter clean I’ll put some poly fill in. You da man Kev✌🏽

Hello. Thanks so much for the content. I have been researching on how to clear up the water in my 75g tank. I came across your channel and have been watching about wave makers. I have ordered one to start with and will see if I need a second one. The filter I have is on the back right corner of my aquarium. You state to put the wave maker on the same side as the filter. The question I have is will the water coming out of the filter interfere too much with the wave maker? Thanks in advance if you are able to answer.
When you say Back Corner, I have to assume you have an HOB filter. With these it is possible for the 2 flows to crash and create micro bubbles. Best way I advise is to keep wave maker on same side, but bring it as close to the front viewing glass as possible to try and avoid that crash. Good luck!
@@KaveManAquatics Thanks for the reply. I will try that.
Very informative! Everything you explained made perfect sense. My fish let me know if they like the current or not. Most love it but guppies don't. I have several tanks with several different currents, so I am intrigued with the Wave Maker.

hello bro... i have question on my new wavemaker.. i have 100 gallons.. both sides have overhead filter right and left.. both filter has mini wave maker.. should i place the new wavemaker at the bottom of the gravel?
Hey Kev, do you know if Paradise gourami and Tetras like the current from wave makers? I have a Freesea 130 in a 20 gallon that I just installed last night, put it seemed a little too powerful and the Paradise seemed to be hanging out near the bottom of the tank on the other end as if to avoid it, so I switched it off this morning. Couldn't find info specifically about the Paradise and Tetras specific to whether they like current.... Also the Freesea 130 looked like the cheapest and smallest, which seemed appropriate for a 20 gallon, but open to other wave maker type suggestions. Thanks!

All fish are different. Some enjoy flow some prefer still water. First identify what your kind of fish prefer. But yes, if they like heavy current you will be able to tell.

i want to put on 2 wave makers cause i have 2 death spots on both left and right front corners. where do i put my wave makers? im thinking on the left i should point the wave maker upwards to break the tension of water and the right point downward to push the trident to right of tank.
HEY, I have a 210L tank and just added some baby African cichlids to the tank after all water parameters were ok. The wave maker seemed to be too strong for them though! They kept looking for hiding spots away from currents almost. Am i correct in thinking I should wait until they're bigger to use it or maybe just use it for a few hours a day?
Great channel btw and amazing content
If they look stressed from the current I would get a smaller one or remove it all together. They should still be able to swim freely if not its too strong.
You're definetely on top of this shit Bruh! GREAT JOB!!!
Thank you my bro! 😁💪
Thanks for video. 75 gallon, sponge filter in each corner back side , 2 hob filters (fluval 70’s) equally spaced apart .. where should it be placed?
It wont work well in your tank. The bubbles from your sponge filters will create micro bubbles that wont look nice. Plus its difficult when using hobs as well because water comes in from back to front.
@@KaveManAquatics so you’re saying I’m better off ditching the HOB, going canister, wave maker, and also loosing the sponge filters.
@@joejones56 lol I didn’t say all that. If your tank is doing good right now. Staying clear and not building up pockets of waste, no need to change a thing. But if you feel it can be improved, yes a canister and a wavemaker would accomplish that.
@@KaveManAquatics LOL I know, just messing with you. I’ve thought of canister.. looks cleaner and filters more volume.. just don’t know it will fit in the stand I have. Got evaluate a little more before putting the money out for it. Thx tho
