All too often we think that asking for help is a sign of weakness cuz that's what we're taught. I have fallen for that lie so many times. Yet the opposite is true. It takes such courage to admit you need help and finding out your not alone is so freeing. It really sucks that so much stigma is attached to needing/wanting to reach out. Jacques Roy thank you for speaking out and being vulnerable it showed tremendous strength. #not alone

This was posted over three years ago and doesn't even have 12k views. People say they care about us, but they really don't. Everyone likes to say they appreciate first responders, until it's time to pay us. That's when you get all the "you know what you signed up for" nonsense. Take care of yourself, and don't let your organization/municipality take advantage of you.

My dept. 185 members one of the suicides that stick out, a member came down with lung cancer. He hung himself in the basement because he couldn't do the job any more.

So, we're telling this story about first responders and stress in our award winning film, PTSD911. I would love to talk with you about this. We're screening the film around the country.

Still difficult to speak up, can't afford to, I have a family to provide for. People say they appreciate us, but that's as far as it goes. No one actually cares.

Wow good for you... everyone has mental scars whether they admit it or not. And your grandma’s statement is extremely ignorant.

I'm saddened to hear your grandmother didn't have the insight, education and awareness to support you. I'm a combat veteran and suffer severe PTSD, tried to commit suicide 18 years ago. It's absolutely horrific every day!!!
