@@AussieEnglishPodcast I love it! I guess anything about daily stuff is good for me, as I wanna move to Staya this year, I like to listen to daily conversations to get used to it, that’s why The Goss is one of my favorites to listen to.
YES Pete I'm so glad you included "How ya going?" in this one! That phrase is the pride of Australia and you don't really hear it anywhere else. It even confuses the hell out of Americans and Brits a lot of the time. "What do you mean how am I *going*? By car, I guess...?" It's possible its use varies across the country but I'd say it may actually be the single most common greeting here in Sydney - especially from women, for whatever reason. You'll hear it from both guys and girls of course, but with guys you'll sometimes hear "G'day mate" or something like that, from girls it'll be "Hi, how you going?" more often than not.

Im enjoying and learning from yr vids so much! I have a bit of a weird Aussie accent in that I was born in Europe with a South African mother and Aussie dad and went to school with a lot of Brits and American's but have lived in Sydney now for several years...people tell me I have a strange accent and ask me where I'm from so these videos are interesting to test out which ones I say like an Aussie and which i don't
The Aussie accent/contractions and Cape Bretoner accent/contractions are very similar I must say, The are some differentiations we dont got the Aussie accent of course, Our accent is a mix of Irish/Scottish/French/Gaelic/ and many more. The Cape Breton Island Contractions are the same pretty much and we talk quite fast compared to the rest of North America, The Mainlanders of Nova Scotia have a hard time understanding are accent and sayings haha, It can feel like a hastle to slow down my speech for Mainlanders. We turn small talk into one word, “Sea-ya-ladder-on” for (See you later on) “be-dah-ken-do-ya!”,”Peace”,”Av-A-good-one” for “I will see you again/talking to you again!”, We use “Ows-id-goin”,”Ows-she-goin”,”Ow-she-be”,”Ow-she-do for (How are you doing!) Talking to everyone as a greater we use “Whads-up”,“Sup”,”Sco-In-on”,”Eh-bi”,”U-Sayin”,”Eh-man” Some ones Ive only heard from here are “Jee-yet” for (Have you eaten yet) “Right” for (Do you understand) or for (Alright/Okay/Yes/No) words have many meanings depending on tone around here, but we pronounce “Right” with a flat t, we don’t really pronounce t’s they makes words right long, we pronounce T as D or kig it oud all tageder (kick it out all together) Australia like “Oz-raily-ya”. Cool video!! from 🇨🇦
@@AussieEnglishPodcast I'm glad that you know Kazakhstan cause always people don't know about this country ( Yeahh I really recommend you visit Kazakhstan) Aussie English sounds really cool and also I wanna study here one day. Also I love kangaroos 😍I wanna see them in real life.
Back in 2008 I remember talking to a person at a bank in Brisbane and he greeted me saying ‘Good morning mate’. Sounds easy when written but it was his accent that I had to ask him 10 times that I could understand him. 😂
Could "what's up" intonation means something like "angry?". I'm Brazilian and you might know that in Portuguese the same sentence can vary a lot just changing the intonation. I'd been taught that in English the intonation is "less important" than the sentence structure but when I lived in Melbourne I got the impression that the Australian English uses intonation more than I was expecting. What is your opinion about it? 》love your UA-cam channel!
G’day mate! Such a great video. I was wondering, is there any slang/accent from specific Australian cities? E.g. Adelaide (where I am), Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, etc.
I think 'what is up' is more American, and Assies use it as a form of greeting. What is going on, how is it going, and what have you been up to are more common.
Although the words are different, the way the words, syllables, and spaces are shortened are very similar to the Eastern North Carolina accent. My fiancée had to have a translation like Hot Fuzz with the UK cockney accent scene.
Probably not a big enough market. But just ask an Aussie if you spot them in the comments and ask. I'm Australian and he definitely left out a few that weren't quite right. For instance.. How is it going? Howzetgarn.
i know i'm not supposed to say this but alot of these are actually american but thru the media have passed into common english. english (not british but english specifically) and australians seem to get the most offended when you point it out. as an amateur linguist myself love yer vids, btw.
How confusing these expressions must be for people coming from non English speaking countries! Thank goodness I was born here and have learned them all by osmosis.
I wonder if a woman can use G’day without sounding bogan ? 😊 For the « it » of of How’s it going’ we have the same in french, comment ça va, « ça » means in general, in all areas.

In Spanish "how's it going" means "como te va?" that's means about life , how u are going with life ,so probably that "it" means about life in English

can use the word "mate" to Australian citizen and I 'am not?

What does "schwa sound" means?
How it is going ? literally in spanish it would be "Como esta yendo eso"?
It refer to your life condition, so how is it going literally means how is your life going
