Back in 1972 while exploring caves just south of Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana I found what I thought was a Estwing Rock Hammer. As it turns out (and I just found it today in the Home Depot website) it is a 22oz. Smooth Faced Brick Layer's Hammer. I've used it quite a bit and it has a few rust spots but the handle is still about 90%. It's not bad for a 48 year old Tool. =))
Ah yeah, they used to sell the mason/brick hammer as a geologist pick/chisel, so if you found it in a cave I'm sure someone was using it to hunt for semi valuable rock or fossils.
In this video I review my Estwing Carpenter’s Hatchet, as well as doing some splitting with my Estwing Sportman’s Axe, showing some of my other Estwing tools, and talking about the brand. In the text box are lists of different Estwing tools divided by type of tool. Enjoy! :]
Grats on the weight loss ! Must be 50 LBS ??
Over here in Scotland I’ve seen that Estwing tomahawk in action, it’s a good piece of kit, very sturdy and has lasted years for my friend... Great review, of some great products 👍🏻
Excellent, I'm glad to hear that they are available over there, too :]
Love my Estwing one time buys right there.
👊💀🍻🇺🇲🍻
Aw yeah!
Estwing makes fantastic tools. I don't own enough of them for a festival, but I love the ones I have (passed down from my Dad). Will definitely get more.
Definitely, and dads are always right about tools!
"When I Club something I want it to stay clubbed" 🤣🤣🤣
I have the Estwing short rock pick. It stay in my vehicle, for collecting fossils or rock specimens. this model is the sturdiest I've found and will probably outlive me. Might actually be used to pry up my fossil remains someday...
Estwing is one of my favorite’s I love my fasthawk
The reverberation of steel handles is killer! I prefer something with a wooden handle.
They do last forever though.
Very cool video, I love Estwing reviews. I first heard of Estwing almost 10 years ago when I was a geology student and the campus store was selling Estwing rock picks. They are the gold standard for geologists. I also have the fireside friend, the leather handle hatchet, the 3lb hammer, and a few 20 oz. Estwing hammers. They are the best! And a little fact about Estwing, the USA made products are made with Nebraskan steel. I use a 20 oz Estwing at work to hammer down drum lids and loosen up frozen steel well lid covers in the winter, they take a beating and do not notice it one bit. And how bout that metallic ping your hear when you hammer something? That iron content screams durability. And really cool club collection right there, I've never seen that before.
They really have great loyalty in their customers and they have earned it :]
Excellent video. I have the carpenter hatchet, 26” camping axe, and the tomahawk. I need to add the fireside friend for sure.
Oh for sure, the Fireside Friend is just good clean fun, a real skull splitter. It does not come with a sharpened edge (for splitting it doesn't need a fine edge), but I sharpened mine just in case I want to use it as a heavy hatchet.
Kudos! Finally a good video about the carpenter's hatchet!!! It might not be as sexy as the sportsman's axe, but it sure get the job done, and I personally prefer the synthetic handle as far as grip and vibration. I own one of these hatchets and one of the new double bit axe (at first I thought that the risk of getting a double bladed axe was not worth it, but then I thought "what the hell, this must be fun!"). It surelly paid of! Trying to decide which Estwing to get next! Once again, thanks for the nice and lighthearted video!
Thank you, my friend! Yeah this Carpenter's Hatchet has served me well over the years, I figured I owed it a review. Yeah the double bit is useful, basically gives you twice the usage time out in the field before needing to re-sharpen.
I have a few Estwings. I've got the sportsman's hatchet, a couple rock picks, a gad pry bar...don't actually have any call to use them, just got them cause I wanted them(I mostly collect blades, but I have a minor interest in having a few non-edged tools as well), but they're nice products. I also own and have actually made use of one of their hammers and their pro claw nail puller on multiple occasions.
That Gad Pry Bar did catch my eye, might have to try that one too :] something about demolition tools warms my heart.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives One thing they don't mention in the description, opposite the chisel end is a flat face that can be used for hammering tasks too. Nice little bonus tool heh.
The extra length on the riggers axe looks useful, already have the smaller sportsmans, great little axe
Estwing's Hunter's Axe in black, and the black & orange model looks like a really great tool, hope you do a review on that one at some point !
Ah yeah, that is one of their new tools, looks like it has a gut hook on the back, that would be useful for the dear hunters in my area.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives they make tools that seriously last, i still have the 17oz finishing / framing hammer that my dad gave me when i was a kid ...been using it for years ...he was using Estwing products when they were kinda not very well known ....he built many a house using an Estwing hammer(and Cat's Paw). have a great weekend & stay safe !
Great video mate. Huge Estwing fan from England here. Their drywall hammer is really nice. I just ordered one today.
that is one sweet club, truly ...you really have a true talent for making ...and you make it look so easy, an ace of clubs so to speak. frankly you might want to consider selling these as your own initial foray/offering into the EDC retail world (would look great as an all black offering ...with lanyard hole of course) ...many of us would buy no doubt. and as you say, it truly does have many multiple relevant uses, truly ...and nothing really compares to a good ol' club (actually hard to find a nice simple one these days). great vid as always, Estwing rulz for sure !
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Yeah, I have considered selling some carved handicrafts. I can make letter openers, and since they are thin, one $5 bundle of firewood can make a huge number of them. I know people who sell things like that on Etsy.
I got an Estwing hickory handled hammer recently, it's made in Taiwan, but absolutely fantastic quality,,...
Much, much, better than the Vaughan framing hammer, I also got, recently, which is made in the USA, by people who should be ashamed of themselves,, ,,
(or the management needs to stop putting profits before quality,,, imho,, )
Excellent. If it is made in Taiwan it's probably the same people making the Cold Steel and CRKT Hawks, which are good quality!
Nice video bro!! I like the Riggers axe best. Good to see you.
Thanks, my friend!
I've been wanting to buy the fireside axe heard great stuff I love my mid length Estwing axe I've been beating it for years!! That's one hell of a caveman club collection!(=
You definitely need one, it is like a sledge hammer and splitter in one :]
Carpenter/ joiners in Scotland all use Estwing hammers and axes .When I was learning in the 80s every single tradesman had an estwing hammer .Great steel and built right .
EST FEST! Great video.
I had an Estwing rigging axe. I was using it with a club to baton split some firewood into kindling and the handle snapped into. Replaced it with a Vaughn rigging axe and broke the handle on it pulling nails. Bought another Vaughn rigging axe and don't use it to either baton firewood or pull nails.
I'm sorry to hear about it breaking, it sounds like you're very strong!
I just watched two of your videos and I’ve bought everything you’ve reviewed in them, now I’m down almost four hondo but I’m up 5 amazing tools. Solid reviews, thanks,
That is awesome, I'm glad you're finding so much useful gear for your needs!
I just bought the 14 inch blue camping ESTWING axe
I have the midsize one a little longer than that one(I own them all) and it's my favorite. A little more length helps. The sportsman's is great for splitting deer pelvises for field dressing. I love your vids and your pronunciation!
Thanks, bro!
I got 20 seconds into the video and gave you a 👍🏻 simply because you actually know how to say the company name! Almost none of the other so-called “reviewers” on UA-cam say it correctly.
2:08 HA! HA! HA! HA!
You could use [a club] for personal defense, but hey, why would you use that when you have a hatchet?”
🤣👍🏻
Thank you my friend!
Could you review Estwing Machete? that would be great.
Excellent video! The Hatchet looks very good! 很棒的视频! 斧头看起来很不错
Thanks!
What sheath can you buy for the estwing carpenters hatchet?
I was looking for a sheath too .I think you'll have to make one from a good piece of leather .I made a sheath from a good heavy leather pocket in a handbag my wife was throwing out .Cut a hole for the axe shaft and the locking strap works to secure it .Best of luck.
I have a few of their tools and I find them good quality.
Glad to hear it!
how does the carpenters hatchet do in splitting?
It's thinner than most, so it can get stuck in the wood sometimes rather than split it.
Great club vid! Very relaxing to watch! Do you have vids on Ontario knives?
Yes indeed, it's an older vid but maybe still useful: OKC knives: ua-cam.com/video/4bR2XKo0RDw/v-deo.html
@@WeAllJuggleKnives mega thanks!
I have the 16 oz claw hammer 🔨 and bricking hammer greats tools that last
I know about these things thanks to Clementine haha
👍
Thank you for watching bro!
I am building a survival bugout bag for myself and I read a manual from a Brazilian guy from 1993 (In Portuguese) of how to survive in the jungle and it is legit because I downloaded from one of the many government websites in Brazil and in the end of the manual he makes a list a of how to build a medical kit and a survival kit and I noticed that everything he listed was very lightweight like fishing line, fishing hook kit, sewing needle set and etc the heaviest thing would the knife and I am wondering if a hatchet its worth the weight in a real SHTF scenario when you are thirsty, hungry and maybe even sick. What do you think?
I think a light hatchet or tomahawk would be okay, but they would have to be lighter than the Carpenter's Hatchet, something with a synthetic handle. Or something short but tough like the Browning Shock N Awe hawk.
I prefer to carry a machete since the are light weight and have alot more edge surface then an axe or knife, but if the vegetation is very dense then I would prefer a boys axe, I have estwings 26" camp axe and it does the trick for me.
Maybe a lightweight Italian or Spanish axe? Like a Scure Calabria or Hacha Huesca? The last one has a 200 gram bit. Same idea as the tomahawk...I have a Hacha Huesca , swift & light.
I saw a documentary about a stone age society, a hunter had a bow, three arrows and a stone axe...with plenty of large carnivores around.
Basically using the knife like a froe.
Hi. Have you ever used the claw of the hatchet to pull out nails? I just got one of the same hatchets myself today, and I found that the claw is not quite like that claw of a hammer. With a hammer, you can actually use the peen/claw to dig a nail out. But with this Estwing hatchet, how can we get the nail head out in the first place so that we can use the claw to pull it? -- use the blade of the hatchet?
Someone told me that the notch is for cutting drywall. I don't work drywall, but it sounded reasonable. So I just use a mini hammer with a real claw for any nail pulling instead.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Yep -- use a real hammer to pull out nails. I've tried to pull nails with the notch, and the notch cannot even hold the nail in it. The nail just keeps sliding out of the notch. It's a good hatchet, just not for pulling nails.
A club is good for acquiring a caveman wife. 🤭😆
You went there! :]
🤣 Yeah but they always end up ->🥴
😂😂😂
big man big muscle have big wood club me like me marry big muscle man give him big muscle babies
