      I got one as my first car in 2020 for $1000. Had nearly 300k miles and the rpm and temp gauge never worked. Drove it for 6 months and as a 17 year old of course I put it through hell. It still held up lol. Might be grabbing a 2003 here soon thankfully

      My rule of thumb is Check it, if its not black and still got a pink tint, save the old fluid and risk changing it, you never know, could always syphon out half the fluid and add that amount of fresh back repeatedly until its clean. This way you’re not getting all that friction material from the bottom so it can help the car shift as needed.

    Maxima's are awesome. I had a 1999 manual that went close to 400K miles before it literally started to fall apart. I think you are right with that 1 fix to clear all codes. You can sneeze on the older Maxima's and it will throw a code and drive perfectly fine. Keep us updated on the Maxima. Definitely a steal if you plan to flip it.

    TPS and Cam Position Sensor and crank sensor can cause shift issues. Trans wants to shift at optimum rpm range. Had an 02 Infiniti I35 clunkingly (is that even a word?) shift 1st to 2nd from a bad cam sensor. Changed the Cam sensors* and all was right.

    • @Fwatson757
      @Fwatson757 Рік тому +1

      The transmission itself never has a problem, the transmission sensors are what fail over time. It’s the magnets specifically in the sensors like the speed sensors that start acting up. But if the transmission had a problem, there would be issues downshifting and stopping the car. But one awesome thing about these model Maximas is that you can drive the car slowly even with a bad transmission. Most of the other cars by different makers, you can’t drive with a bad transmission.

    It's gonna be interesting to see what you find with this one. I've got a '98 UKDM Maxima, which is same as Infiniti I30 that I've owned for 10 years. Bought it with just under 56k miles - now has just under 93k miles - and it is very reliable. Other than usual maintenance items, I've only replaced the alternator and transmission computer in this time. My brother has owned his '95 JDM Cefiro with the 2 liter engine the past 15-16 years and even though it doesn't look that great anymore, it just keeps going and going.

    I had one of these in the Infiniti format as the i30, it was an amazing car, it had a blown head gasket but for free I didn’t complain, lived long enough for me to learn to drive on it till I upgraded to an 05 Mazda 6
    Edit: oh and a word of caution un plug the hydraulic motor mounts, they are unregulated and directly connected to the ECU and when the motor mount goes bad 8 times outta 10 the ECU gets burned out along with it.

I cleared the codes & the o2 codes didn’t come back for the remainder of my ownership which was like 2 more years. I had to do that to pass CA emissions as it’s an automatic failure if your CEL is on.

    Hey Randy , I feel you got a good score on that thing bcos it needs the TPS , plus a couple of other sensors and fresh tune could brighten it up to excellent running condition , and little repaint would do it good and be superb for some good individual or family . But on the other hand I have a doubt , I have a 2007 Mitsubishi lancer which has a confusing problem , it was given in complete engine rebuild a head gasket replacement which after that it's been smooth but the transmission has gone into some issue where after just starting and driving it , it jerks and goes all kind of confused and then no proper gear changes with neutral gear light flashing , I have no clue , I feel it's some sensors / electronics issue but I don't know , if any help or suggestions you have I would greatly appreciate it , anyway stay safe , God bless . Thank you for all the informative and entertaining content.

    Hey Man, Love the content.
    Regarding your AC, the system appears to have way to much r134 in it. Reduce the refrigerant level until it is on the green on your gauge and it should be start cooling, pending everything is in order.

    • @cjbht19minaret
      @cjbht19minaret Рік тому

      The gauge reading depends on the temperature I believe

    • @chiefjuice1
      @chiefjuice1 9 місяців тому

      His accurate reading actually was when he was pressing the trigger down and the gauge instantly went to zero. With freon in it, and the trigger pressed down..while the compressor runs is when it should show green. Not when the gauge is connected with the trigger not pressed. That gives an inaccurate reading. If he had put real gauges on it and opened the knobs, he would have gotten that 0 reading that he was getting when he was pressing the trigger on his canister in this video. A lot of people make this mistake and think their system is overcharged when in fact they aren't using it correctly. I repeat..you must connect the gauge, then depress the trigger to see your system's pressure reading with these types of gauges.

    These 5th gen Maximas are safe, reliable cars as long as they're taken care of. Sensors go bad all the time and light up the dash, but it's rare to see the actual basic parts go bad; I can't remember the last time the o2 sensor worked in mine. Frame and rear fender rust can be a problem with these too. The response time is quick though so they're very safe for highway driving.

    I had that same issue on my Infiniti M30 (Nissan Leopard). It turned out to be the automatic transmission control solenoid (Nissan 31940-41X13). It was a little older, but same drive train and miles. As I recall the issue began right at 200,000 miles. By the way, it also went through power steering high pressure hoses about every 30,000 miles.

    Adding floor mats should solve all the problems. You may want to look at spark plugs for misfire. Does your scanner tell you which cylinder was misfiring? I agree that throttle position sensor should be changed or cleaned first. Then Cam position sensor. Look at trans. oil to see if low or needs to be changed. Worn tires can give wobble on steering wheel. May also need O2 sensor. Graph the O2 sensor with your scanner for sine wave.

    I personally despise working on Nissan V engines, especially for FWD. Everything is so shoehorned-in and cramped. I learned with the VG30DE how much I dislike working on them. Unnecessary complication and points of failure for not a lot of power gain relative to size and weight.
    If it's a Nissan with a KA24DE in it, I'm set. I've driven those motors well into the red and had them hold up. I much prefer timing chain to timing belts, and iron blocks are more robust at the expense of weight, but worth it for longevity. Plus they're so simple to work on and diagnose. My $550 Xterra 2.4L ran like that when I got it: it needed O2 upstream and upstream cat from the leaking valve covers, and the MAF sensor also went out right after I got it.
    Tried using cheap China parts and ended up in the same bind a couple months later. Replaced everything with factory Hitachi/Bosch components (as well as Fel-Pro gasket set) and no issues since. Doesn't matter if it's -5F or 105F outside: starts every time on the first try. It also passed Colorado emissions on first try once the rusted-in-half PCV valve and plugged upstream cat were replaced.
    Still, I liked the look of these Maximas with the rounded taillights, but if I had to get a Maxima for myself it would be the late 90's model like Tavarish had.

    I'm thinking a couple things that seem to common on them.. I would change the spark plugs and install OEM coil packs. New crank position sensors, a new throttle body and a new fuel pump. Just check the fuse for the a/c first, since it's full. Since it's one of the computer control ones, the controller may be bad. But those things , half a day work, it's going.. Those things were probably never updated in that car.

    I have owned 2 of these. I currently have a 2000 max that I paid $400 for, so heres some advice:
    The iacv is on the bottom of the throttle body. They commonly go bad on these and they can take out the ecu. Only replace it with the hitachi part.
    These also eat coilpacks. Only replace with the hitachi or oem hanshin coils. And I bet the precat is stopped up or damaged also. It was also a common issue on these.

    Replace tps and change upper intake gasket. That will take care of the stalling and shifting issues

    My friend it's not your transmission it is your MAF sensor that is no good, symptoms is like a slipping transmission. I still own my 2000 Maxima with 225K miles and she run likes a champ!

    that is some easy fix there, replace both IAC valve and TPS and the car should work as a charm, as for the AC looks like a dead compressor.

    Gotta check IACV, ECM, MAF, TPS most of the low idle problems on these revolve around that. I have had my 01 AE for a couple years

    Kinda worried if you were going to get back home. If a throttle switch sensor will fix. You may come out like a bandit. Thank you for sharing!
