Steel wool was most likely used to keep the rodents from chewing the wires up. They must’ve known they were going to park it and did it to protect the wiring.
From the looks of it, it looks like it worked.
i was about to type this. my 1st thought was they were protecting the important bits
stole the words right out of my mouth but yes thats exactly what those were placed there for.
Yep, steel wool is a great deterrent to keep critters from chewing on wires and plastic
Or they had to replace the wiring harnes and didn't want to do it again... 🤔
That's pretty cool
rodents dont like to eat through steel wool, could be a attempt to prevent rodens eating crucial wiring
That’s what I thought as well!
Thats what i assumed as a well
Yeah but then the down side is if there is a short steel wool lights up real easy!
What's the demolition derby on UA-cam two cars tor a crap out of each other
That makes sense thanks for the info
Had a Black with tan leather '97 Blazer LT. Pretty nice unit, once you get past all the interior gremlins.
I have a buddy who has a '05 2 door GMC Jimmy. Last year of this model and he picked it up new when they were clearing them out.
It's sitting in his garage today with a 1000 miles on it, seats still wrapped in plastic. He laughs and has no idea why he preserved a 2005 Jimmy.
It's pretty neat to see though.
I think you got it for a good price. You have a nice winter beater with 4x4 on it. These were everywhere back in the day. They were not the greatest vehicle but they were pretty solid and reasonably reliable. The only real issues they suffered was that the oil filter lines would leak but they were easy enough to replace when on a lift. I always loved the "oh Crap" grab bar on the dash. That Jimmy will make somebody a solid car at the auction
This truck honestly is a really good example, I was genuinely expecting the 4WD system not to work since it’s a Vaccum 4WD which almost ALWAYS have rotted out vaccum lines and it’s basically stuck in 2WD. This truck is an absolute steal, if those lines aren’t dry-rotted then that’s great. But if they’re starting to feel stiff or starting to feel brittle then replace them ASAP. But that thing is still a solid vehicle. Whoever the owners were clearly took care of it and wanted it to last.
Randy - If your not familiar with these vehicles there is a smallish list of common issues with these
1. These are notorious for the fuel sending units going bad and the gauge will read all over the place.
2. The 4x4 is vacuum actuated and that likes to blow out pretty often but is easy to replace, just pull the battery tray and there is 2 bolts in the fender well that hold it in place.
3. 4L60E transmission I would assume you are somewhat familiar with, terrible transmission that loves to blow it's sun shell into pieces
Good news is though that 4.3 vortec will run forever if it's been taken care of.
That Jimmy is one of the cleanest of that year I've seen in awhile, honestly I like that 4.3l vortec v6 a friend had that engine in his S10 and it lasted 471.236 miles before she got weazy and died so from what I've seen they last if taken care of. I'd drive it mileage doesn't matter to me of course I'm an A.S.E. certified mechanic so if things break I can fix them . Definitely a good buy in my opinion.
@4:22 You can tape Brillo Pads like that to repel pests chewing the wires or hoses. you can see where some of the Brillo Pads were bitten by mice at one point. Whoever owned this thing loved it and took care of it man. This one should be a winner so far. Just remove them before travel.
There's a military base sticker on the windshield, above the rearview mirror.. my guess is that it was owned by someone older in the military who drove it around a lot, probably cross country, and also serviced it, unlike most people lol, and then they taped brillo pads to the wires to keep them from being eaten up by rodents while it sat while they were away, possibly on a deployment.. maybe it got damaged while they were away, or maybe they didn't return and it was sent to auction by the family..
I must say, that GMC Jimmy/Chevy Blazer looks like it was REALLY well taken care of over the last 25 years. Someone must’ve taken pride in all the maintenance that went into it. I’m very surprised that it still runs and drives really well and with very little problems, considering the high mileage it has on it. Other than that, most of these trucks have ALL been destroyed over the years and are long gone at this point. Nonetheless, nice find!
I hope it goes to a good home. 👍🏻🏠
Billo pads are To keep the mice and rodents from the engine and wiring
Someone took *AMAZING* care of that Jimmy!! I bought my mom her 96 Blazer at my local auction for 1k with 120k miles she loves it!
They did that to keep the mice off the wires.
The brillo pads are for rats not to eat the wires because they don't like those
Some of the prices I've seen lately in Cincinnati, you could shoot for at least $8k on that Jimmy 🤣🤣
People usually use steel wool to put into holes and cracks in walls to keep rodents from coming in. Rodents don't like to chew through steel wool. Since Brillo is kind of like steel wool I guess the previous owner though it would keep mice and critters from chewing on the wires. Like someone else said, it looks like it worked. Looks like a nice buy.
Congratulations you have been selected as our winner for today.messge us to claim your prize 🖕🖕
You have never done a pt cruiser either and I recommend if you can find one a turbo Standard talk about fun lol
Hello Randy! That's a nice and solid car 👌💪 a wish It was here in Portugal... and I would bye from you! 🤩👌😁 Cheers from Portugal ✌️😎
Usually you don't use SOS pads with the soap in it but you would just use regular steel wool but I suppose it works and then you could take them off and use it to clean your Chrome LOL
brillo pads for mice deterrent
I just bought a 1997 Jimmy SLE with 198k miles for 3.5k
Mice hate the sos soap pads. They work well in your home where mice find holes
Maybe they try to keep the animals from chewing up the wiring harness with the brillo pads??
I love the Jimmy you should keep it. Then you can give me the 4 cylinder Firebird. I like driving slow.
I had a 97 Blazer 4.3, 4x4.
I absolutely loved that buggy.
I got it cheap like 16 years ago with 116k on it and it needed a few things.
I delivered pizza in it and drove it off-roading all the time.
I beat that poor thing mercifully and probably replaced half the parts on it, but i put 25k-28k per year on it and drove it hard as hell.
After a little over 3 years it finally blew a head gasket, and the rear end was going out, plus BOTH my leaf springs were cracked IN HALF.
The rear wheels actually had moved towards the back of the wheel wells, which is how I noticed. Lol.
It was just over 200k and a scraped it. Salt was getting to it too.
Long story short, that thing took a beating from hell.
I wish I had a nice one again. I would treat it good this time. Lol
DONT EVER SHIFT IT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IT WILL DAMAGE GEARS IN THE FRONT DIFF AND USING IT FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME ON THE ROAD WILL BURN THE TRANSFER CASE CLUTCHES. just thought id let you know
To keep the mice and rats from chewing through them
It was to keep mice from chewing on the wires
Hello Randy. The 1998 GMC Jimmy is a good SUV. I believe that you'll get a good price for it.
Roxy is like I want to come for a rideeee
Yo también tengo una GMC yimmy 1998 color arena 4door
Randy: I have heard of people putting steel wool on hoses if the vehicle is not going to be run for a while so small animals will not chew the wiring or hoses... That ma have been the situation here....
If a cars been looked after well I really aren't concerned about high mileage
brillo pads.... that's a first.
Randy my son is interested
What steps does he need to do to buy from you or the auction house
Please let me know
Thank you
Brillo pads are to keep mice out
Not a fan of these, but it is clean. Worth it for the $.
Hey, Randy what happened to the other T bucket Hot rod? that was the funnest most interesting vehicle in your Stable
I'd love that Jimmy!
ABS is disabled when you go into 4x4 due to the transfer case locking front wheels together. ABS simply can't work when all 4 wheels are locked in at the same speed. It's working as designed.
Edit: I commented before Randy took it out for a drive and the ABS light stayed on. Should go out once back in 2wd. I'm guessing the ABS control moduke is bad, common on this era of GM vehicles. It's caused by an issue with the circuit board. New part is $$$$$, but they can be repaired for less.
Got Damn those fees
They must have had a lot of mice around there you better check that car well with all that steel will taped all over everything
I missed your yellow monster.
The brillo pads tell me they planned on it sitting for a long period of time because you use steel wool to detor rodents so it was more than likely to keep rodents from eating the wiring
It was also used to slow corrosion of wires from what I was told when I was much younger. Both means they knew it was going to be sitting.
yeah I was told that too now that you mention it i forgot about that so yeah they definitely knew it was going to be sitting and knew what they were doing and cared about it
That's what my thought was. Heard that many, many moons go that it rodents won't eat Brillo pads and it helps slow corrosion.
You got it. 👍
Highly interesting piece of info.
Smart owner, cared about the vehicle, protecting the wires from being eatin thru by mice...
they did that to keep mice from eating the wires
that was my first thought
Oh Shoot
Brillo pad is to keep the rats from chewing through the wires
Brillo pads will deter rodents as I recall. They probably planned on it sitting for a long period of time and put those there to protect the engine wiring from rodents.
Yes, and I was going to say it was to keep rodents from harvesting on the harnesses under the hood, and the mileage wouldn't bother my last daily driver was a 86 Chevy k20 on its 4 th motor which I rebuilt it was a 0.30 over 75 Chevy 355 4 bolt main built from a Chevy 010 350 ac factory block.trw hyperutic pistons sealed power piston rings file fit, competition cams xe268h 221/224 degrees duration 477/480 lift cam kit and noisy summit racing brand timing gear set. Truck had 297,77 when I got rid of it needed bodywork because it was beat and dented up it had a pretty solid cab floor needed the starter swapped and the carb rebuilt or slap another one on it, would start right up with starting fluid but didn't want to idle, and starter was weak
Truck I have now I'm not sure what it's mileage was it's either 124, or 174, in 2020 and then in the winter the speedometer quit the tem guage the high beams indicator turn signals, tach and the battery voltage gauge quit working and then the odometer quit and the cluster was changed it's a 2000 dodge ram Laramie slt quad cab long bed 1500 5.2 litre magnum v8 4x4
This Jimmy sounds like a good winter beater. I'm surprised how the interior has kept up for being 24 y/o. A dash without cracks is quite surprising at this point
Speaking from experience, these are terrible winter vehicles. Wheel base is too small for the weight and handling in the snow. The vortec engine is fantastic and can make 500k with decent maintenance, but at the milage that's on this one it's probably had 5 transmissions already. 4L60E is a POS.
My 99 blazer has a perfect dash because the original owner but a dash mat on it. The speaker grills and vent grill on the other hand....
@Don.Lamaack both of mine had engines go out before trans sonoma at 131k and blazer at 180k
Randy the brilo pads are so rodents don't try to eat the wires they feel horible in the mouth
This Jimmy is cared for! Love it... she deserves a good wash and wax! Tyre shine... everyting!
The mileage isn't as important as how a vehicle was maintained and kept up. Just because a vehicle hits 100k, 150k or 200k if kept up they'll generally keep going. You're in the non rust belt area so that helps significantly of how long a vehicle will last too.
Nice video, What is the reason that charity donated cars are sold only to dealers in auto auctions ?
Good Lord Randy, I love that Jimmy SLS. it looks and runs really good. it looks like you have a winner there 👍👍
Years ago my wife and I had a late 90s Chevy Astro all wheel drive. That was basically the same thing as the GMC jimmy, and the Chevy S 10 blazer. That vehicle had 450,000 miles on it, and round like a top. One of the only GM products I’ve ever owned, that I actually trusted to take cross country. So yes I think you got a good deal on it, when I sold mine I got $1300 for it, and that would’ve been around 2010.
those are tanks. A co-worker still owns a 2002 AWD and he says he'll never sell it. He just put some 30 inch A/T tires on it and took it on a camping trip
Cruise control doesn't work probably because ABS light is on.
Brillo pads are there for mice/rodents
Yep rodents don't like steel wool
Mouse deterring Brillo pad
The person who owned the vehicle prior knew the GMC was going to be sitting so they put Brillo pads on all the wires to keep the mice from chewing the wires thats old school
ABS goes off when you put it in 4 low.
steel wool keeps rodents away from wires
To keep the nice out so they don't eat the wires
On my vehicle if there is any light on the dash cruise control won't work.
Yeah fellows, people use to use steel wool to plug holes in house to keep rats out, probably still do. Guess owner's of this Jimmy thought it would work on Wiring harness.
Thanks to those Brillo pads those wires are still intact. Rodents do not like chewing through steel wool.
As some have said, the Brillo (or steel wool) keeps the rodents from chewing the wiring. Apparently they don't like a mouth full of Brillo 🤣.
Brillo pads will kill mice dead.
That’s keep 🐁 from Chewing the wires
Can we see more Chevy Silverados and GMC Sierras on your copart walk arounds?
I tried to find you on telegram but I couldn’t find you
Have you considered selling some of the fleet over to your ex-friend?
Keep mice eating wires
If I had the money the Jimmy would be nice thanks
On those older cars I would be inspecting All the frames for being rusted out and all the rubber mounts. Especially if they have been expose to a winter salt or salt brine.
I don't know if the cruise control will work if it was still in 4 hogh
Copart probably know that GM is no longer making gas powered cars electric cars are going to take over. That Chrysler 300 I had one couldn't change the front head lights gota take the front bumper off just to change them.
Roxie wants to go with and check out the Jimmy too. LOL
Brillo pads never heard of that that’s strange!! Roxy such a cute pup! The jimmy might be a diamond in the rough. Just thinking the pads where there maybe too prevent the wires from getting chewed?
I just got my 99 doge ram wheel chair van back from the dealership the water pump was leaking 900 bucks but it's fixed no problems 64 thousand miles now 55 when I got it it's been a good van no problems with the Jimmy I figured something would be good video
I almost bought a Chevy blazer and my wife talked me outta it cause we have 3 kids and it was a two door with only 119.000 miles the old lady didn't approve of it
I used to have a friend named Jimmy, but he was a piece of crap, I’m glad this isn’t
Some people say SOS pads will stop mice/rats from chewing on things.
When are going to get back to auction walk arounds?
My Grandpa used todo that its to discourage rodents from making dinner out of the wiring harness the soap in the brillo pad makes them not wanna eat on the wires
I have a '97 with the same miles. Bet she gets 20 mpg or better. My daily driver.
Hi randy you may need to have a nother youtube channel called auto auctions resell just a idea 💡 for your business 😀
probably need 2 get whatever’s in that fuel tank out soon.
Hey Randy, Love your channel! but loved it a whole lot more when you were doing viper, Chevelle, Humvies, Mercedes, Porsche, mixed in with your usual stuff! road trips with monkey wrench mike, car shows, rebuilds etc. but youWRONGLY thought you were losing views because of content ! Even Hoovie has complained about losing views! As have many many other UA-camrs! Could be UA-cam? Time of the year who knows? but you had one of the absolutely hands down best channels on UA-cam!
Good Ideal to tape the Brillo to keep the rats from eating the wires
You have to be a dealer to win a charity car from auction? damn it. right now, I saw a buick lesabre with 80k miles in excellent condition that runs and drives in my IAA auction in my city, it's a charity car.
I absolutely will never use a card ashtray. I use a can with water or one of those smokeless ashtrays. Id have a stroke if someone burned my ashtray.
Wonder what autospa llc could do with this one
Rodents dont like steel wool
Randy is there something wrong with Monkey Wrench Mike?
Those 4.3 vortec v6 are great and powerful engines. The gmc jimmys are nice well built trucks
Other than poor fuel economy, those Jimmy, Envoy, Blazers, and Bravadas were decent trucks. I’m sure they’re more reliable than all the newer Chevys and GMC products they make today.
I love how so many people act like 250,000 miles is extremely high or something. Almost every car I have had has had that many miles on them. Although I have had mostly 80s-90s Toyotas and old redblock volvos, so for them it is really nothing.
250k you are returning from the moon. Lol
My blazer has 265k
@@samholdsworth420 Yeah. I am certainly not saying that it is not a long distance. but it certainly is not like a crazy high amount of mileage. I would have no problem buying a car with that many miles or more as long as it has been taken care of (I have and will probably again).
I would much rather have a well maintained car with 300,000 miles and trust it much more than the same car with only 50,000 miles but it was not maintained properly.
Had a 97 blazer, sold at 267k miles. Worst thing was trying to swap the starter, it was a good vehicle.
My 99 blazer has 265k on the clock. 😎
To detour rodents!
Blazers were notorious for ABS issues. I've replaces the ABS module twice in my 01 Blazer. And they love to blow break lines.
My blazer has 265k and no abs light. Never had brake lines failure.
I live in San Diego tho lol
