I'd rather see 15 goldfishes in a 1000L aquarium than 3 goldfishes in a 20L one, sure it's not usual and goldfish are often overlooked by aquarists for beeing not enough fancy or too common, I love how it turn out in this setup, they're like chill giants in a micro world.
Actually I loved seeing the goldfish in a natural looking tank for a change. They're so often kept in bare minimum tanks it was nice seeing something new.
The only major problem I see is the water temp. Goldfish like it around 22 C, and GB rams like it around 28 C; a pretty large disparity and a middle ground will just shorten both of their lives. But appearance wise, I think it looks very nice. Thanks for the update, MJ. Take care.
Actually goldfishes are really tolerant, at least the normal type and i've got some that are more than 30 years old in an garden aquarium (4000l) which is over 29°C at the bottom in summer and freezes in winter so 4°C at the bottom. I'm more "saddened" by the type of goldfish chosen when you know the level of inbreeding done to obtain stable abnormalities of this lvl... But at least those ones should be as happy as a fish can be
This is exactly the reason this hobby is brilliant.. it has something for everyone.. if we all confirmed to the same stocking it would be boring. I think it balances well, I wouldn't have bubble rams as I feel this species adaptation shouldn't exist. But looks great!!
I'm personally not a huge goldfish fan but all that matters is that the fish are healthy and the owner is enjoying it. I'm happy that the tank is doing so well. It's still looks great!
As those goldfish get older they will probably decimate the fish and plants that were there before them. For now it's great, would love to see a follow up a year from now.
My initial reaction to seeing and hearing about that fish combination is knee jerk negative. But I agree that it’s actually pretty cool, and certainly unique.
I’ve got a few 8+ inch common goldfish- I cannot keep rooted plants with them- I’m surprised they didn’t rip and eat up all of the green scape! Really beautiful work 🎉
Still very beautiful to look at. This is one of those examples where real life experience and trialing with a good backup plan (incase things go south) can be rewarding. Not everything needs to follow the expectations of the internet.
I like it. I love planted goldfish tanks. People think you can’t do it but you absolutely can. All of these species are tolerant of temp variations and none are aggressive. Should be fine if there’s no fin nipping or goldfish eating the small ones. I think the main issue would actually be making sure everyone eats. Some are faster than others. And the other issue would be regular water changes but that seems easy here.
Stunning ,,,,, I really want to do the same build in my house .. its pretty much perfect ,, i have the same style aquarium but in a much smaller version . minus the goldfish , and it looks after itself . definitely a 10 out of 10 in my opinion, would love follow ups on this ,,, especially in depth on filtration setup ,temps , water parameters and maintenance routine videos . All the best to you
BEAUTIFUL aquarium! I agree that the rams have got to go! But aside from that, it will just be a natter of time before they decide to eat the plants or not. My goldies don't touch of my anubias, ferns, or buce plants. But lobelias cardinalis, and any other plants will be eaten. The only other plants I have had luck with are red plants. They seem to freak mine out a bit and wont even nibble on them at all. The bright side to this stocking is no ferts needed here!
to my surprise it looks great. I strongly suspect that that substrate will definitely show the excess waste load after 6 months or so, thats a very light colored tank bed and those fish will strain the substrate appearance with waste even with that massive filtration setup. But if they can afford that tank customization and setup, they can afford someone to do the hard work of maintaining that level of cleanliness. Good for them, it keeps people employed! And if they do it all themselves, also good for them!
Looks amazing! Goldfish are not my cup of tea but respect to anyone who goes for what they like even if it's a strange choice. I am curious, the Goldfish don't eat the plants? I always heard they did, so this makes it even more interesting of a choice.
Surely the aquarium temperature will be an issue? I know goldfish can tolerate higher temperatures for the short term, I don't see how the health of cold water and tropical fish will be good long term. I'm sorry but just not keen on mixing them ☹️
A big misconception is that goldfish are 'cold water fish', when really they are 'temperate' fish. This means they can live in a wide range of temperatures. Plenty of people who live in tropical climates keep goldfish without ever having a problem.
Depends on where the goldfish were bred. Those bred in Asia (Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, etc) live in warm temperatures ranging from 24 to 31 degree celcius throughout the year.
I mean if it works it works. It actually looks really good. The big pop of bright gold, red and white from the goldfish make it enjoyable to watch even from across the room. They'll probably help munch down the plants a bit to help with the trimming like little goats too lol.
Who didn’t have a goldfish growing up as a child? Maybe an exclusive goldfish design would have been better. As long as it works and as long as all are well together, why not? It’s not our tank to maintain and enjoy. Thanks MJ for the update …….
Mark spray the glass with water when using a magnetic scraper, stops the jumping, but like you I live in fear of deep scratches if substrate gets under the internal tough velcro style plate.
The biggest issue with this combination is the different husbandry requirements, right? Temp wise he’s going to make the goldfish suffer by keeping it warm, the rams suffer by keeing it cooler, or make both suffer by meeting in the middle.
I’ve always loved fancy goldfish. When I had some, they were in a community tank. As long as everyone gets along, and the owner loves it, who cares? The only question I would have is how the goldfish get along in the depth of the tank? I’ve always ‘heard’ they should be kept in longer, shallower depth. Not sure if that was urban legend or not. I had mine in a 30 long.
Gold fish in a planted tank are lovely for sure but my two concerns would length of time for that number of them as they grow in that tank and how long water parameters remain stable with that number.
I like it. Think the owner made the right decision by going for originality. “Weird” is not the right word imo: it’s just different from what most sheeple go with these days.
'sheeple'? I mean, there's a reason more experienced aquascapes pick certain stocking. it's not just a fashion trend. Fancy goldfish are large, inbred, and they eat plants, not really a good fit for most aquascapes. balloon rams aren't preferred because of the inbreeding too. I keep cpds, shrimp and otos because it's tried and true. they get along so well, and they're so suited to the aquascape. i don't want to have to constantly worry about fish not liking the Scape or not getting along. I've had the Scape up for the years and haven't ever had a problem with the fish, which leaves all my time for the Scape. sometimes there's a reason the popular combos are popular.
It's their vision. I love this tank layout. My personal taste: I'd rather have large groups of 3-6 different species of small or nano fish in this one.
I wonder what will happen when the Goldfish get older and (even) bigger. I've had some of my tropical fish in an emergency quarantaine tank with some of my Goldfish (emergency situation) and they ate and/or decapitated pretty much anything in there.. Neon Tetra, guppies, platies,.. I'm telling you they WILL try and eat any fish that is smaller than them! I had to manually remove an otocinclus that was stuck in my Goldfish's mouth. So good luck 😁🙈
Honestly. There really isn't many videos about them and thats a shame because they're stunning and relatively inexpensive when done low tech which is what I'm interested in. Please let me know where to find them. I found a place in California (vase depot). Shipping to me in 🇨🇦 is spendy. A 10"D X 12" deep (6 or 7 gallons) is $163 USD incl shipping minus taxes.😲
I would’ve gone for something like a group of koi angelfish, otherwise the scape and plants look gorgeous! I can’t bother but feel a little uncomfortable with the stocking, cardinal tetras and rams thrive in warm soft waters, goldfish and guppies feel comfortable in cooler harder water, and as the goldfish grow they might choke and die on the corydoras spines as they’re foraging on the bottom. But hey, the fish look happy and the owner looks like he’s gonna take good care.
Technically the fishes on this aquarium don't share same parameters. But the main issue is going to be showing in a few moths if you placed inside female guppies...the owner is going to have a hard time collecting them. Otherwise there will be thousands in short time.
Tbh i consider this a beautiful aquarium but with a wasted space, in those liters I would have gone in a completely different way recreating a tank for bigger Cichlids for example, but since it's only my opinion it only matters the healthy fishes and the happiness of the owner
Those fancy goldfish look stunning in there but they'll eventually tear everything apart. I don't mind the small fish, I like the look of schools of tetras in a big tank, however the guppies will multiply uncontrollably so that may not be so good. The people suggesting discus and angels... meh I think they're overrated, they're the fancy obvious choice for livingroom aquariums and they have become all too common imho. I think there are other equally fancy stocking choices that aren't the typical discus or angels
I totally agree with you, I think they look really good, but I don't think the tank will last that long with the goldfish in there. I think some other bright orange fish should go in instead, as the green really makes their colour pop. some albino cherry barbs would be stunning in there
Looks so beautiful... BUT goldfish + no ferts + plants look like a bomb timer to me. I'd be worried at some point that the plants may have one or more nutrient deficiency, and that may cause algae on plants, and goldfish will start attacking algae and destroy plants by doing that. Who knows, wish this scenario won't happen, and this aquarium remains breath taking
Not fish i would choose- but then i really dislike the intentional breeding of deformed animals. I wasnt a fan of the balloon rams either. The scape looks great though and the fishes welfare seems to be carefully considered.
I just find it so concerning that the owner spent so much money on that aquarium but did so little research on the compatibility of the temperatures that the fish like and should be kept in. Like the rams schould be in at least 26°C and goldfish are seen as coldwaterfish so that will just slowly kill them both. A bit disappointed that this is shown on camera without saying that this in not how they should be kept and that it's killing them slowly. :/ You're maybe thinking that I'm overreacting but for me this is fish abuse.
I love this aquarium. Its beautiful. BUT. It does call into ethics and I would hate myself for complimenting the tank, If I didnt bring up the ethics of ornamental goldfish and balloon Mollys. Yes they are beautiful and pleasing to the eye. But being bred to look like this is unethical. Mainly due to the constraints on the fish and its life.
I'd rather see 15 goldfishes in a 1000L aquarium than 3 goldfishes in a 20L one, sure it's not usual and goldfish are often overlooked by aquarists for beeing not enough fancy or too common, I love how it turn out in this setup, they're like chill giants in a micro world.

only issue I saw as well.
He added a huge bioload with these goldfish so the extra cannister filter is a great choice.
I personally think it's a very fun stock. :)
As long as he is happy that's what counts looks really good
At least you’ll always have work with this client. Restocking eaten plants…🤣
This is exactly the reason this hobby is brilliant.. it has something for everyone.. if we all confirmed to the same stocking it would be boring. I think it balances well, I wouldn't have bubble rams as I feel this species adaptation shouldn't exist. But looks great!!
Goldfish will always have a special place in my heart.
This awesome never have I seen goldfish in the tank with any other fish.
Fair play to the owner... one in the eye for all the fish snobs.. have to admit it looks good
This is what I would do to a big tank... Something unusual and unconventional I love it!!!
YAY!!! It looks like my 25 gal shallow!! Goldfish are my fav & they get an undeserved bad rap. THANK YOU for sharing this!
I'm personally not a huge goldfish fan but all that matters is that the fish are healthy and the owner is enjoying it. I'm happy that the tank is doing so well. It's still looks great!
Spilled my drink when those gold fish came up...😂😂. But the scape actually looks really nice with them.
As those goldfish get older they will probably decimate the fish and plants that were there before them. For now it's great, would love to see a follow up a year from now.
My son loves gold fish and he’s into the hobby @ 10 years old.
Really beautiful work 🎉
I think this is an amazing setup, stepping out of the norm, guys ideas are great 🙌🏼🙌🏼
The yellow cap oranda (my favorite type of goldfish) is beyond gorgeous
Still very beautiful to look at. This is one of those examples where real life experience and trialing with a good backup plan (incase things go south) can be rewarding. Not everything needs to follow the expectations of the internet.
Vind het wel mooi eigenlijk, zeer goede kwaliteit leeuwenkoppen, buffelruggen en red caps, bedankt voor de update!

A stunning tank. If the owner is, the fish are happy then all is good ❤️🇦🇺

Never been into fancy goldfish. But... that looks 👌 🔥
The owner done good 👍
Mark, ik moet zeggen ondanks de ongewone vissoorten. Dit is echt een tof aquarium! En eerlijk gezegd is het gemaakt voor de goudvissen!!
Ja ik vind hem ook wel tof!
Very beautiful scape and tank. You did an amazing job on the scape. My custom tank is coming soon can’t wait to get it up and running :)
BEAUTIFUL aquarium! I agree that the rams have got to go! But aside from that, it will just be a natter of time before they decide to eat the plants or not. Completely overstocked now. Those goldfish will grow massive over time
That looks amazing!

Super aquarium, but the goldfish amazed me a bit.
Mark spray the glass with water when using a magnetic scraper, stops the jumping, but like you I live in fear of deep scratches if substrate gets under the internal tough velcro style plate.
interesting stocking experiment
Its definitely a weird combination of fish, but I kinda like it 😅
Oh no! The differences in water parameters and temperature to keep these species of fish...
Nice Job 👍
I like the stocking 🤷🏻♀️

strange combination, yet very beautiful
It would have been perfect if he had added in a group of angels but to each his own
Nice 1000 liters tank 👍🏻
Love your work.
Trying to search through older videos.
Anyone no where I can find similar rimless aquariums in the states 48"x24"x24"?
Gold fish in a planted tank are lovely for sure but my two concerns would length of time for that number of them as they grow in that tank and how long water parameters remain stable with that number.

People are so judgmental about other people's taste. This guy likes guppies and goldfish, let him be happy!
This was an ideal tank for altum angels ….
Cool, just because its different!
Looking very Nice. Im even more interested in your balcony mini pond. Excuse me if you allready covered this.
This combination of fishes can you see when the owner is from Asia.
Hey MJ. How some planted vase scapes?? You have done one, how about some more
Yeah was thinking of doing another one!
Honestly. There really isn't many videos about them and thats a shame because they're stunning and relatively inexpensive when done low tech which is what I'm interested in. Its actually 4.1 gallons. Pie X r² X depth. 3.14 X 25 X 12=942³ =4.077 gallons

that one cory looks phat!
Great video
Fancy goldfish are cool but they aren’t that good with most plants especially ludwigia and rotala
As long the owner is happy im okay with it just ignore the bad comment
Lekker man, what cost dit nou?
I love you MJ but these 5 minute videos are killing me 😭
Technically the fishes on this aquarium don't share same parameters. But the main issue is going to be showing in a few moths if you placed inside female guppies...the owner is going to have a hard time collecting them. Otherwise there will be thousands in short time.
Waar hebben ze de goudvissen gekocht?
I would be more concerned about different water temperature requirements rather than aggression.
What temperature is that tank at? :)
How can goldfish live in tropical water?
Aren't those cute gold fish going to devour all the stem plants?
They ate a few delicate plants when they were first added to the aquarium, but they stopped now.
More bio load for the plants I guess...Not a fan personally though.
I have a feeling this will not end good for these fish.. tropical and cold water fish..we will see
@MJ Can you use CO2 in a planted fancy goldfish tank?
Absolutely!
@@MJAquascaping Big thank you for responding so quickly! I’m setting up mine now 👍🏽
No heater?
If the owner likes it, who are we to say anything against it ... the fish look healthy enough...
Tbh i consider this a beautiful aquarium but with a wasted space, in those liters I would have gone in a completely different way recreating a tank for bigger Cichlids for example, but since it's only my opinion it only matters the healthy fishes and the happiness of the owner
To me it is like fingernails on a blackboard.
But i wonder is the aquarium not to warm for the goldfish?
OMG this is making me sooooo tempted to put my two fancies in my 75gallon community tank 🥺🤤
Now No3 fertilizing is not needed 😅
💯
Those fancy goldfish look stunning in there but they'll eventually tear everything apart. Goes to show that the “rules” our community puts on aquascaping aren’t absolute!
Looks so beautiful... BUT goldfish + no ferts + plants look like a bomb timer to me. I'd be worried at some point that the plants may have one or more nutrient deficiency, and that may cause algae on plants, and goldfish will start attacking algae and destroy plants by doing that.
Who knows, wish this scenario won't happen, and this aquarium remains breath taking
the goldfish don’t eating plants?
Not anymore
the fish getting along? watch @3:27, poor little james is getting punched in the belly and his flaps are getting twisted. brutal man!
Not fish i would choose- but then i really dislike the intentional breeding of deformed animals. I wasnt a fan of the balloon rams either.
The scape looks great though and the fishes welfare seems to be carefully considered.
My thoughts exactly!

Won't goldfish eat plants?
They ate a few delicate plants
Terrible idea adding goldfish. Tank looked better without them.
👌👌👌👌
Die Theo eat the plant?
But the big But is this that why goldfish are eating my plants i wish to keep gold fish but..,,
