- The latest FTD Sessions set, The Girl Happy sessions, is in many ways the most fascinating yet.
If you want a really detailed look at what's in the set, please check out my mate Adam's video (Elvis Presley Collectors Group):

Excellent review😎. Thank you!.
Thanks a lot.
😎👍I love this CD ❤
Really great review of the tracks within this Girl Happy Session release David! I really enjoyed that and my favourite so far on the music... Also thanks for the shout out! I think with yours, Scotty's and my video they piece together a really good look at this set and what it contains. I agree with you this session is one of the most enjoyable so far... Probably because it reveals so much more than what we can take from the original soundtrack release, with all it's quirky speed adjustments and edits. Session releases... After so long it still shows there is "Gold In Mountains" still to be released!
I was thinking something similar. I've seen four GH Sessions videos on YT and they're all very different. Cheers, Adam.
Nice Catch on Bo Diddly parts, thanks for sharing.
Most welcome. Thanks.
Totally fascinating - I add echo to this album for my own listening.
Fantastic review! Girl Happy is my favorite Elvis movie and soundtrack! I’ll need to get this now!!
I'm sure you'll love it.
Hi David Elvis The Girl Happy Sessions get that one sound great keep up cool video my friend
Thanks, Nigel! 👍
you welcome David all the time my friend
Hi Dave ,been on holiday so bit late with me comments ,av not heard these sessions yet but av heard off other friends the clarity is the best they’ve heard ,a have to be honest not one of me favourite soundtracks ,it always amazes me how hard EL worked in the studio with not just this album but others from the mid 60s ,his work ethic was second to none ,hearing them with different mix,s etc ELs performance always is enhanced, example being your comments ref ,do not disturb ,a wouldn’t have thought EL recorded in the key of b flat much ,if not at all ,fats domino was a big exponent of b flat ,his brass section of his band would of recorded in this key ,and played live on stage ,ref EL leaving the studio hurriedly,a wouldn’t have thought, guessing he wasn’t happy with the way things were going so maybe he though let’s call it a day and regroup tomorrow ,EL was the man in charge in the studio so a think what he says goes ,just my opinion a could be wrong ,may have been something else ,great video Dave ,take care ,tony 🎸🎹🎸
HI, Tony. This is a great set - fine sound and plenty of surprises. You might be right about Do Not Disturb. If it had been me, though, I'd have been out of there asap. Can definitely recommend this set. Cheers, Tony.
Great review David I like the song you'll be gone.❤
Yes, good song. It sticks out at the end of Girl Happy, though.
What a great and in-depth review David! This is one of my favorite Elvis soundtracks amongst a very select few. As such, I am not much interested in these “Sessions” series (or FTD, in general) but after this review, I am going to give this one a listen. As a musician, I appreciate that you pointed out some interesting musical aspects of the recordings (e.g., I never noticed the Bo Diddley rhythms till you mentioned it) as well as pointing out comparisons with relevant artists of that time period, such as the Beach Boys. I am glad you enjoyed this set and appreciate you sharing your opinions with the rest of us.
HI, Tony. If you like Girl Happy, you'll love the Sessions set. There's so much to discover on it. Thanks.
Thanks for your informative take on this sessions set of my favorite Elvis movie soundtrack.⚡️
You're welcome!
Thank you for the review David! I have ordered mine today and looking forward to listening to it. I'm not super fan of the album, but I know I will enjoy the sessions for the many reasons I enjoy the sessions releases 😊
I don’t know what was exactly the reason of the speeding up of girl happy but I do know it was increased an 8%. I'm happy getting it at the normal speed.
Please keep the good contents coming, cheers!
Funny how so many fans know that song was sped up by 8%. Not 7%. Not 9%. 8%. I have no idea where I first read that, but it was a long time ago. I'm sure you'll enjoy the sessions. I think there are four feeble songs on the album, which is not bad for a mid-60s soundtrack. And what a striking front cover (shame about the back cover). Thanks, Patricia.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan I myself know about the 8% through Jorgensen. But don’t recall reading about the reason for the speed up. 🤷🏻♀️
Yes I think I'll like the sessions, thank you!
Oh the soundtracks covers...that’s an entire forum discussion on itself 🙈😆
Great video again, David. I have been selectively buying these Complete Sessions CDs since I do not like listening outtake after outtake and all FTD's are basically all I need (offer better listening experience and I do not need all outakes). I have bought the 1960, Blue Hawaii, 1961, How Great Thou Art, 1967 and 1969 sessions. Girl Happy is one of my least favorite soundtracks, but I loved to hear your take.
With the Sessions, often the changes are subtle from first to last take, but there are a lot of things going on with this Girl Happy box. I quite like the soundtrack anyway so I'm really glad I got it. Thanks, Alex.
I like the session cd's very much but have yet to buy this one ,based on your review I'm getting it ASAP ,thank you David👍👍
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan If you are interested David, I have revived my Elvis Channel (ua-cam.com/video/S14pPWPS3W8/v-deo.htmlsi=2QnzeUrob3dGhLj2) on which I plan to discuss the German, USA and UK variants I collect. Still struggeling a bit with light and camera but you and TCBsince1973 have lit a fire 🙂
@@DavidHuletlevensgoesting You'll love it, David.
@ Oh, thanks a lot, Alex. I didn't even know you had a channel. 😮 I'll be sure to check it out.
Around that time there is a pic of Elvis at the Danny Thomas charity I think that Elvis is reading a magazine article about the Beatles. And how they are making it big while Elvis is singing average songs. But it's still part of his amazing legacy. I hope we see the light of the opening engagement of 1968 Vegas show. As Graceland have it on vinyl test pressing. Great review!
It's a Dutch Magazine actually.
He must have felt bad about their respective situations, but it couldn't be helped. Elvis was operating in a parallel musical universe at that time.
@ Too much control by the studios. As Hal Wallis had control on Elvis's weight. The sideburns. While the world changed. As read from the excellent Elvis File magazines
😄...one of the funniest Episodes David! GH is not one of my favorite Elvis Movie Soundtracks but your review makes me curious...my FTD Copy is still sealed since mid December 2024 and i will listening to it on the first day of Spring 2025😉
Btw at this moment i'm listening to the Sony "Elvis Memphis" 5 CD Box-Set 2024. CD1 is Great but CD 2-4 is a Sound-Quality Mix Desaster imho. I dearly hope CD5 will be a listening pleasure...
Thank you my Friend!
Yes, open it up, Harald, and get some of that spring fever.
I've avoided that Memphis box, so far. Too many negative reviews, unfortunately. I think the Graceland CD is supposed to be one of the best discs, though.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan..."Danny Boy", "For the ❤" and "He'll Have To Go" are really good ones on CD5; that's all...🥺
"Elvis Memphis" it's really not the one Box-Set i will often listening too😏
But 🎶Spring Fever🎶 is coming soon 🌳🌿☘️🍀🫠
@haraldtrittner4396 Let me know what you think when you get to hear it.
really awesome insightful review! just subscribed recently from watching you on the forum channel. Awesome Work!
Thanks very much. Glad you liked it.
These really are fantastic!!
Certainly are, Mark.
Hi David thanks for the in depth review I have this on order, as you know I have a soft spot for the films and the soundtracks and am probably the only one looking forward to the "Harum Scarum" sessions!.
Hi, Mike. I know one or two others who are also looking forward to the Harum Scarum sessions. 38 takes of Shake that Tambourine? I'd buy it.
Boots Randolph is from my town Paducah Kentucky 🎷, tyvm David always enjoy your videos. Girl Happy is top 3 in soundtracks. ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Glad you liked it. Nice to have an Elvis connection in your hometown.
This is a great set. I hope they do a couple more movie sessions this year. The masters sound better than anytime in the past. Harum Scarum or World's Fair please.
I know which one I'd prefer of the two 😅 but I'd buy either one. Thanks for watching.
Great review David ....everyone seems to Love It 😀!!
I played it loud all day on Saturday.....I love it too !
Not played the original albums for a long while now ....but this sessions set is absolutely incredible 😮 !
Is it the best ? ....or is it just it's the most recent release?
Well ....its definitely up there for me too ....
Who knew they had all this unreleased stuff 😀
Cannot wait for the next one ..
Happy Days
Cheers 🎙🎶🥂
I wouldn't say it contains the best music, but it contains more surprises than most Sessions sets. I'm very impressed with it. Cheers, Paul.
Another great video David. I have Girl Happy sessions, but l haven’t played it yet! As l can not get to my CD player at the moment. We were re doing my Elvis Room. So l had all my Elvis goodies in boxes. We we’re getting on well, then my husband Stan was taken I’ll. Since then it has been at dead stop or slow! I hope to get it back in the next couple of months. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Looking forward to seeing you guys soon. I love the forum. Regards Ellie. 🍾🎉🎵🕺🏻😃❤️👍⚡️
Sorry to hear about your husband, Ellie. I hope he gets well soon. Take care.
Thanks David for a great enthusiastic review. I wasn't sure about this one as it's a sound track that I don't really go to much but having seen yours and Scotty's reviews I've now placed my order.
Nice one. I'm sure you'll love it.
Good in-depth review David. Do you collect the vinyl releases as well?
@@BeatUpRecordsCDs No, not really. I'm not much of a collector of modern LPs.
Really great stuff David!
Thanks, Sean. Have you got this one?
@ElvisPresleyInJapan I have David, the sessions sets are the only area of the FTD catalogue that I've taken a completist approach to. I agree this is one of the best so far
@@sincerelyelvispresley I'm the same. I have all the Sessions sets now but I'm choosy when it comes to the rest.
Great review David! I haven’t opened my yet.
Maybe save it for the summer - the best season for doing the Clam.
David could please check something with the original 1964 USA LP release of "Girl Happy"? On my original 1964 LP with Matrix numbers
Side 1: SPRS-2014-5S A / Side 2: SPRS-2015-5S A (Hollywood pressing) during the intro of "Fort Lauderdale Chamber Of Commerce" it can clearly be heard a splice in the tape that causes a piece of the guitar intro to be missing. I also have the 1976 "Dog On Side" USA black label and the splice is not there. If you have a "Japanese" Girl Happy 1964 version first pressing I would love to know if it has this error on it also just know is the USA sent them the error, or even another USA pressing from 1964 from the "Indianapolis" or "Hollywood" Pressings. I don't know why this error was never discussed on the forums but it is very interesting the error is on this LP. Thanks David For your time.
Something went wrong with the extension of Do the Clam, when they did prolong the sax solo by Booth, something odd is going on in the second verse of the sax solo, the sound is changing drastically, like the messed up the sound during this process.( Sounds like the right speaker is dropping sound) You hear the left channel in both right and left channel at the same time at this point, I dunno how to describe it rightly) I think it is strange, nobody ever mentions this through the years. it has always disturbed me. They could have restored this on this cd set, but unfortunately still the same. I did enjoy the short version more than the original released version on this set, it is perfect. B'b is more a rock and roll key as you might think. Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry was recorded in B'b for instance.
Yes, I noticed that too. The sound dips a bit during the second part of the solo. On the old LP I had (an RCA International 1980 UK pressing), I seem to recall the sax panning from one side to the other during the solo. Bb - yes, good point. Perhaps they all just tuned down a tone. Thanks for watching.
@@ElvisPresleyInJapan it's definitely I drop in volume in one channel, I don't notice panning from L to R channel. Anyways something went wrong during post-production. The song should never have been released in this quality on the original soundtrack IMHO. But it is what it is I guess.
It’s a beauty isn’t it David!! I’ve been playing it constantly since I got it and love it. What sessions box would you like next if you had a choice?
Hi, Grant. I'd love to see World's Fair next, but they might do a non-soundtrack set. We'll find out soon, I suppose. Cheers, Grant.
Fabulous review as always.
I make it 12 sessions sets so far does that sound right to you?
Also i don't think I had ever heard I feel that I've known you forever with the 64 vocal delivery.
I wonder why they edited tracks so much when they are short anyway
Yes, you're right. 12 plus American Sound 1969. It is strange why they shortened so many songs, even cutting out the guitar solo from Startin' Tonight. Side 1 barely makes 10 minutes playing time.
Hi David, is the Japanese American trilogy single rare? Thank you
Not really.
@ElvisPresleyInJapan thank you, I just wondered.
As you say, the editing on the original Girl Happy album is very rough. We can clearly see the splice at 1'39" in the title song. BTW, I made a video of the title song with the original pitch 14 years ago.--> ua-cam.com/video/sWx7IgCQeek/v-deo.html
14 years ago!? You were ahead of your time!
Nice review David. I may have to get it. I never liked the original release as his voice is speeded up.
You do get all takes of Girl Happy at normal speed on this set.
Sorry, just can’t listen to most of the soundtracks. Can’t stand that they wasted one of the greatest singers of all time with such lousy material for so long. No wonder he hated them. On the plus side, maybe the movies and soundtrack had to get that bad for the comeback to be so good
I usually find some songs I enjoy on the soundtracks, but I understand a lot of people don't like them.
