Elaine, your chat was a long time coming. You have opened the eyes of many techs, for sure.
For years I thought of doing a DIY class at our high school. Just basics, but once you brought up the removal of gel polish, I realized that this is something that really needs to be shown to those who are trying it themselves.
This video is fantastic and I highly doubt that anyone would be mad at you. How could they? You just gave valuable and powerful information for free.
Muchas gracias for your time and expertise.

Very nice job Elaine. You shared a ton of great information that nail pros needed to hear. It took a lot of courage.

While I understand your reasoning Elaine, and I understand that the industry must evolve, or die. Where does it end?
We already have techs who, for whatever reason, are buying "pro" products on eBay and Amazon. What's to stop them from deciding that they can make more money "teaching" the diy'ers how to do their own acrylic, or hard gel, nails?
There are already so many "educators" out there who should NOT be teaching. Now we'll have Nancy Nailtech teaching the local diy'ers how to apply gel polish, and those diy'ers will say "Hey, I wanna learn how to do my own acrylics/gels! Will you show me how?"
    I wouldn't, I know a lot of good techs who wouldn't.
Then there's those techs who would say, "What the hell? It's more money in my pocket, and it sure beats slogging behind a desk, or crouching over my clients feet!"
Is that really where we're going as an industry? I guess I'm a dinosaur, I have one, just one product that is not pro-only, I discourage the use of sharpies, craft products, I promote pro-only products and companies. I am not against evolution of our industry, I just pray that it doesn't go the way it looks like it may go :(

Kritika Agarwal I'm one of the bloggers who was sent these packages and would be happy to share the initial email I was sent from Preen. No where were we asked to confirm that we are licensed nail techs. My website and my profile on Preen's website makes it abundantly clear that I'm not a pro. CND made a huge mistake and is now trying to pass blame onto bloggers. And yes, unless someone pays for shipping, I'm not sending anything back.

Elaine, I could tell that you really care about about the topic and the deeper issues and concerns like the affect on the Global economy etc. This was really hard to watch, I cringed through most of it, partly because you seemed nervous and partly by the tone; It came off a little condescending to nail techs. I have different view on what it means to be educated and it is unfortunate that people are not valued by the content of character & traits Iike integrity. I do appreciate your ability to speak from a different perspective than the Ms Pugh. I can understand both of your arguments.I hope people know that there is yet still a wider range in thought. Some of the nail industry challenges are due to greed and lack of diversity and collaboration which you mentioned; which permeates many markets or sectors. Until those systematic problems are resolved there will continue to be a breakdown of mutual respect for all of the players in the industry. Truly sad. I would have liked to know the actual numbers on OPI/Coty and I wonder if CND as a brand thinks that OPI is now in a better position... or has it essentially been reduced to just a polish line? I would appreciate your voice on that. Mel

+hnybrox Very well said. I am sorry it came off condescending to techs. NOT my mission at all. IN fact, I think not having these discussions with techs IS condescending. Like, because we all didn't go to college that we aren't smart enough to be taught business in nail school. Or that we are incapable of understands the analytics because we are artistic. Believe me... It started for me in 1994 when my own father tried to talk me out of going to nail school "because I would starve". So there isn't a condescending term I haven't heard in my 22 years. I will reconsider how I present myself to eliminate that misunderstanding in the future. I value that you had the courage to be honest with me. In closing, always expect that my opinions can be backed up with facts... not my emotions.

I haVe been a CND diehard for 15 years, i have invested thousand's of dollars into CND its the only product that i use, so when CND who by the way always was behind NOT letting the product get in the hands of non licensed people, decided to give away product, Scrub Fresh and so on and a FREE LCD lamp to UNLICENSED individuals yeah it pisses me off, also those unlicensed people have NEVER had a class on how to use the product they do blogs about there opinion per a product that they have never taught how to use. This is NOT good for a professional Nail Technician.. it just takes away from us.. it shows how you can be a fabulous Nail technician with out the Schooling... CND has changed since Revlon bought them out... trash in my book now.

+Andrea Handley I hope that the next couple of days (and messages from Jan) will clear up this entire mess. I do hope that you are either won back over or find a happy place to move on to. No one can take all of that education away from you Andrea. It's bought / paid for and implanted in your brain. Never regret that. I am positive your skills are top notch because of the time and money you have invested. Life is a Journey. Hopefully....a long one.
