- Decided to do a response to this pretty tough thread out there that I saw The Dark Path do recently (link to his channel below. SUBSCRIBE!). I believe this was started by The Rock Scout (link below as well)

When you pulled Human out, I immediately thought "don't you say Cosmic Sea, don't you do it!" And then you did. And I get it, it's not all that "Death", but that cosmic atmosphere just feels perfect to me.
Here’s my defense of Eye of the Beholder: “You can do it your own way/ if it’s done just how I say” has to be one of the coolest and most memorable lyrics in metal…and those lyrics were delivered by Hetfield at the top of his game
Actually my favorite track from that album.
Thanks for jumping on this, interesting picks too, I think a few have found this quite challenging, glad I could get the cogs grinding!
Ah, here's the OG poster.
Necrotic Nick- Not a problem, bro! The Dark Path tipped me off that it was you that started it and man, this one was kinda brutal but I really enjoyed doing it. Someone suggested doing 10 Killer songs on 10 Terrible albums in the comments. That might be fun as well.
Nick, first song that comes to mind is "Test" by Ministry on "A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste"
Also as a bass player...I like Cosmic Sea and Dawn Patrol.
Necrotic Nick- I still dig Test since I think it compliments that album well still. Dawn Patrol and Cosmic Sea just stand out as weird filler to me. Basslines are solid though especially just about anything that Steve DiGorgio plays on.
Yo...This is a Test.
Agree to disagree on this one.
I was going to do a video for this response as well, but I honestly couldn't think of 10 albums. Cool video anyway, dude.
You guys have expanded my love for all things heavy, everyday is a new band or album. My therapy now is to put on music like before work and jam out the emotions like not wanting to be there. Feels like I'm hanging with my true friends from HS just talking Metal shop. Take it easy or any way you can get it guys. PS: Rin makes some of the funniest faces I have ever seen, he gets me so weak lmao.
This was a great and fun discussion. I had to disagree with about 4 of these; Eye of the Beholder, Real Eyes Realize Real Lies, Cosmic Sea, and Mascara but the other songs I've always found to be filler. Still all great albums though.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I can see where anyone could enjoy any of these songs but at least most would agree on these being killer albums.
@@thrallsofmetal Eye of the Beholder is one of my favorite songs in ajfa, that and every other track on that album but still. I think it’s an awesome song even compared to everything else on that album.
@@mason3872
Yeah AJFA is a flawless album imo and I love every song off it
Gotta say I love how Rob turns BLOCK into a two syllable word in that song. Knew I loved that song the second I heard that.
Necrotic Nick- It's that cool fade in to the word when he yells it. It just makes it even more intense... and adds a syllable. lol
On the flipside, I'm not sure if it's going around but maybe do "One killer song off a terrible album." Might be challenging because a lot of terrible albums don't always have salvage value.
Necrotic Nick- I actually was thinking about that while I was making this list and debating which was more difficult: pointing out a turn on killer album or finding a killer track on a turd of an album. I might take that one on someday.
Goatwhore-carving out the eyes..starts out so good with apocalyptic havoc. Then just the rest is garbage.
Great review Nick! Can't wait for you guys review on the MIGHTY Exodus dropping friday!! I'll be tuning in for sure been waiting soo long lol .
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I'm looking forward to jamming that new Exodus for sure when it drops. We'll probably have the review up for it on Saturday so stay tuned.
Side Note: I made a custom version of Around the Fur years ago where I replaced Mascara with Teething from the Crow City of Angels soundtrack. It fits in perfectly between Inhabia and the title track and took the album from a 9 out of 10 to a full 10 out of 10. Try it if you have the time.
Necrotic Nick- Dude, that's quite possibly the perfect replacement track honestly. I love Teething. It's a flat out intense song and would keep the momentum rolling on that album.
I’ve been in an insane And Justice For All kick the past few weeks. Agree with Eye of the Beholder. If you had said Blackened, we would be fighting...
However, my number one vote would have gone to Orgasmatron on Arise...
PS- isn’t it about time for a Metallica album rankings?
Necrotic Nick- Blackened is up there with one of my favorite Metallica tracks so that one was definitely safe. lol. I actually like the Orgasmatron cover that Sepultura did. It's kind of a dumb song to begin with and they just did a straight forward cover of it.
From the Sepultura ranking video:
Shredlord: The cover of Orgasmatron: *blows raspberry*
Necrotic: It was a B-side.
*Shredlord blows raspberry*
Necrotic: It's a dumb song anyway!
*Shredlord blowing raspberry*
Necrotic: You covered a dumb song and still kept it dumb!
Orgasmatron is also a bonus track. The real actual album ends at Infected Voice. Every song before that is awesome, which is basically the Arise album. Arise really doesn't have any bad songs.
One that immediately comes to mind is Sons of Winter and Stars (Part IV), the final 3 and a half minute track on Wintersun's Time I. It's another joke song basically, and kind of hurts the ending of an otherwise superb album.
I don't see repetitive riffs and news samples on that Machine Head track as filler; it's more mood music to me. The fact that the song sounds that different adds variety to the album. The riffs are intentionally repetitive and looped to serve the mood of the song, which is different from the rest of the album and adds variety. And Cosmic Sea is great, too. I like it when bands add things like keyboards, ambience, experimentation - color your album with different shit for variety! It's more interesting than like, Panzer Division Marduk which is just mostly a blast beat from start to finish.
Good subject. There are so many songs that I skip over from my favorite bands: Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Death, Vader, Metallica, Slayer, Flotsam & Jetsam, Kreator, Testament, Crowbar, Iron Maiden. The list goes on. 🥱
Necrotic Nick- There's a lot for me as well so I really had to center in on some that really put me off this time.
In the 80s there were quite few haters for 'City Boy Blues' on the Theatre of Pain album by Motley Crue. I didn't mind it though..
Not a metal album, but Damnation by Opeth would've been a perfect album if it didn't have Weakness. That's one of those "why does this exist?" songs...
Necrotic Nick- That whole album took me awhile to get into after how intense Deliverance was but I've grown to appreciate the whole thing.
@@thrallsofmetal I adore every track on that album, I just don't get what the point of weakness was. Especially since the previous track was "ending credits" which would have been the perfect ending to that album
@@Haxprocess I know about one case where a label demanded last minute one extra track to an album, so the artist just through some stupid Bullshit together. I don't know the reasoning for this demand anymore, but these things are definitely happening and weakness feels like it's one of those songs. And it would explain the awkward track listing.
On any other than the last place, Weakness would've probably disturbed the over all flow of Damnation
Oh I like Mascara. I think it works, and it does have a hook, to me. The song I actually like least is Soulfly. It pains me to say it, because it is a song in memorial and was healing to them, but it just feels cobbled together and I don't feel like Max's and Chino's voices mesh that well.
Nice list Nick. Since you are a Pantera and sludge metal fan, I would submit NOLA by Down. Killer of an album, definitely one I will listen to to my grave. Except Jail... It's definitely a klunker for me on an otherwise flawless Sludge Epic. Dunno if you agree with that statement. I heard live on a stream and Phil really struggles with this one!
Necrotic Nick- I legit love every track on NOLA including jail. I love the somber, dreary melody to it and it's a nice breather of a track between all the sludge riffs.
Totally agree with you on "Real Eyes, Realize, Real Lies". I know Robb likes his hip hop and trying shit out but this sounds to me like they had a free day in the studio and took some leftovers and added samples. Save that shit for a B-side/cover compilation.
Now, if they had instead added "My Misery" from the "Demon Knight" soundtrack that would have been fucking great. I love that song and I think it is one of their best.
When you pulled out Human, I stopped everything I was doing because I was really concerned. I don't care about Cosmic Sea either though. Another song I skip is Secret Face. I don't get it
I would add "Bullituary" on Obituary's "Back From The Dead". An otherwise decent album slightly ruined by that track. Most people that dog on that album is usually because of that track. Bullshituary!
That song it's not that terrible for me. Don't judge me! I love death metal but i gig horrocore too! 😅 Cheers!
It's funny that you mentioned Eye Of The Beholder from And Justice For All because I'm sure James Hetfield would immediately say Escape from Ride The Lightning album.
Great topic, agree with most the picks aside from cosmic sea that's actually my favourite on the album 🛸
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I still just can't get into Cosmic Sea for whatever reason. It just doesn't work with the rest of the album for me. Still, every other track on it is flat out incredible.
@@thrallsofmetal In the context of the whole album it is a bit out of place but yeah you’re right death are a band where all their songs are incredible 🍺
@@Questformetal hey Questy, Temptation is the worst song on Thornography.
Do you have a “10 great songs off terrible albums” list? Fuel from Reload comes to mind
Cosmic Sea is amazing! The rest though you are spot on I think you pointed out alot of classic "meh" moments in metal history lol
"can't all be zingers" sweet Primus reference! Hot take 🔥 I personally like the band ATHEIST more than DEATH. I feel like ATHEIST is one of the most underrated bands in extreme metal! Great video as always!!!!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! You might be the only one that got that one. lol. Dude, that is a pretty spicey take but I do love Atheist. There's definitely Atheist albums I do prefer to later Death albums but overall it's hard for me to say they're better than Death in my opinion. Tough choice.
Overkill - Old School (Relixiv)
Megadeth - Mary Jane (So Far...So Good...So What!)
Iron Maiden - Quest for Fire (Piece of Mind)
Metallica - Eye of the Beholder (...And Justice for All)
Slayer - Necrophobic (Reign in Blood)
you think Mary Jane and Necrophobic are terrible songs?
Dude, great video. This is a tough category that calls for some deep thinking. Off the top of my head, I’d say United off British Steel has got to be one of the most idiotic songs to ever stain an otherwise great album.
I also have always loved Megadeth’s Countdown to Extinction but, by god, is Sweating Bullets obnoxious!
I love both songs…they’re part of the reason why those albums are great imo
The Number of the Beast - Gangland
Peace Sells - I Ain`t Superstitious
State of Euphoria - Make Me Laugh (would be a great track if it was an instrumental)
I feel like boring but technically impressive noodling and wankery describes all of that album and most of Death's others.
Not gonna lie, Down Again gets a pass from me cuz I zero in on the groovy riff during the chorus so I guess I tune out the clean vocals. Plus he does scream for most of the verses so I wouldn’t say it was bad but definitely not as intense
I'll take Eye Of The Beholder over Escape every time.
Interesting, I didn't know Welcome To Sky Valley was tracked like that. I bought the cd a couple years ago, but don't pop it in too often. I've had the cassette since the 90's. Love that album, and agree with you that is definitely a contender for best stoner album of all time!
Escape is my least favorite Ride the Lightning song. The whole album rules but I don't care for Escape. That's a great selection, for me.
Necrotic Nick- For me, at least Escape has some angst to it and a nice melody. Eye of the Beholder is just so placid and just plateaus really early on in the song in my opinion. I have no idea why Welcome to Sky Valley is tracked the way it is. It's always struck me as odd especially since Lick Doo is it's own track which is ridiculous but thankfully easily skipped. Outside of that, that album is still one of my favorite stoner metal albums ever.
I don't even recall this Lick Doo song, but even on my cassette copy, the songs are listed as a sort of triad of suites.
Hmm, tough one this. For me 'War on the Streets' from the Cro-Mags Near Death Experience absolutely sucks. It's almost Hair Metal to my ears.
I'm not that wild about Megadeths Sex Pistols cover either from So Good, So Far, So What.
Necrotic Nick- I agree with War on the Streets being bad but to be honest, I really don't like Near Death Experience very much at all. I thought about throwing in Anarchy in the UK but So Far, So Good, So What is just a "so,so...so" album to me whereas Rust in Peace I see as one of their finest moments.
@@thrallsofmetal Yeah NDE is very weak, some decent tracks but not their best. It was a hard one actually as they don't really have many bad tracks over the course of their discography.
Another possible entry for me would be Changes off of Vol 4, HATE that bloody song.
@@barrywhitesavedmylife7957 honestly that just goes to show a cover in the middle of an album is generally not a good sign
One example I’ll give, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it made this video, is Celtic Frost’s Danse Macabre. While Morbid Tales is an extreme metal staple (Monotheist is my favorite of their’s, personally), this song just rubs me the wrong way. The way Shred described it in the ranking you guys did is pretty accurate, just….yikes.
I’d skip that song on every run-through of that album. Other than that, Morbid Tales is a classic.
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, I thought about that one as well because I'm not a fan of that cringe inducing song either but I was already loaded up with other ones.
@@thrallsofmetal Yeah fair enough, only room for what you can put in there
I strongly disagree. Danse Macabre feels like some Diamanda Galàs worship to me…which is totally cool in my book! To each their own though.
Nice ranking terrible songs Nick, at point & just. By the way check-out the band Deimler from Spain (Death Metal) and their album A Thousand Suns (2021), you'll like. Stay Metal, Stay Heavy ~ Dany The Netherlands.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I'll check those guys out at some point. Been pretty busy here lately but I'm always looking for killer new bands to jam.
@@thrallsofmetal Great man, I appreciated, no problem when you have time. First things first 👍🤘
Deimler is killer! 🤘
@@Wiseheimer100 Yes it is
I disgree with Eye of beholder, cosmic sea, and therapy for pain. I can understand why you wouldnt like eye of the beholder tho. took me awhile to like it fully. Cosmic sea to me isnt really "wankery" but an experiment like what you said and i think it's really cool, but i dont think it was technical just to be technical. Therapy for pain i feel like was supposed to be an atmospheric track and it's supposed to be like "therapy". However, there is one track on that album i dont like which is Dog day sunrise. The vocal melody is really annoying and the riffs arent really that good in that song.
Necrotic Nick- I've given these songs a lot of chance over the years but nothing seems to click for me with them and I've been jamming those albums since high school. Beholder really just feels like a filler track and sitting between Justice and One really doesn't help. Cosmic Sea is impressive musically as are most Death songs but it really feels out of place on the album at least for me. A Therapy for Pain has all the lush atmosphere in the world but it's just kinda dull and really didn't feel like a strong closer to an amazing album. This is all just me though.
@@thrallsofmetal fair enough
My friend and I where listening to all the songs you brought up last night at his house when we got to lick doo we dying of laughter 😂
“Well honey you know that you can and will lick my doo!”
My iTunes version of Welcome to Sky Valley tacks Lick Doo at the end of Whitewater and also has it as track 11. Kinda weird it’s on there twice, but KILLER album otherwise!
When sombody disagrees with another's opinion, it would be nice if they could explain why and maybe drop some knowledge for why they like it.
Nick explains why he likes and dislikes.
If the whole album sucked except for 1 song then the artists would only be known for a 1 hit wonder.
What's your opening song? Sounds so familiar
Necrotic Nick- It's actually Shred's old band Constricted. The song is called "Third Generation"
I totally agree about that stupid Kyuss track!!!! They are one of my favorite bands with a lot of silly lyrics. As far as Black Sabbath I have never liked "Changes" on Vol 4 which is my least favorite BS song on my favorite BS record
Before another pointless name-blame internet fight ensues...this thread was started by The Rock Scout, not me. 😉
...but my entry is the best one. 😁
PROVE ME WRONG.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! You had some good ones (we definitely have a mutual one for sure) but I still love No Love Lost. It might be one of the weaker songs on Heartwork but I still love it. I definitely have some different ones here and some that may be divisive as well so we'll see how this one goes. lol
Mexican Radio on Into The Pademonium.
That cover is a *dumpster fire!*
Necrotic Nick- What a terrible way to open an album, but honestly I'm not the biggest fan of Into the Pandemonium.
@@thrallsofmetal Celtic Frost weren't just influenced by metal. They were influenced by some of the new wave/goth bands, which I think is awesome! I love new wave/goth. The 80s were the best of times for sure! And I would consider Celtic Frost to be a goth band. Goth metal at least. They're up in my top 10 for goth bands of all time!
@@thrallsofmetal The moans on Into the Pandemonium ruin everything!
Great track, great album. You is fools.
Megadeth's cover of 'Ain't Superstitious' on the otherwise fantastic Peace Sells...
Yup. I'm not a big fan of Wake Up Dead either.
Necrotic Nick- I actually love that entire album. Ain't Superstitious, at least for me, really shows of the metal and blues connection well in the riffs.
Dude, that cover is so bad!
@@thrallsofmetal fair enough (though I disagree). love Wake Up Dead
The Testament cover of Nobody's Fault would have been better if they didn't try so hard to make it sound like a Testament Thrash song. It successfully came across like a joke song, still not quite on the level of Six Feet Under covering Judas Priest - Painkiller, but a Hard Rock 1970s style song just doesn't translate well into Thrash Metal. Heathen covering Sweet - Set Me Free worked much better. Chuck Billy shouting through what was originally a melodic pre chorus just gave Nobody's Fault a joke vibe. Lots of Thrash Metal bands at the time were doing songs even further removed from Thrash than Aerosmith was , but to greater success. Such as Flotsam and Jetsam - Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting, Xentrex - Ghostbusters, and Intruder - I'm Not Your Stepping Stone. It worked better because of the humor in making Radio hit pop songs into Thrash, but turning a deep cut Hard Rock track into a Thrash song is a waste of time unless it's done in somewhat it's original style. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath by Anthrax while not as strong as the original at least didn't sound over done with Thrash elements that didn't originally exist in the song
“I ain’t superstitious” off Peace Sells…it should’ve been a b side on a single…this feels to me like Megadeth did a cover song just to say that they have one on the album…it’s a blemish on an otherwise excellent album
"No Bone Movies". If it weren't for that steaming pile of poopy, Blizzard Of Ozz would have been (the only) no skip needed, perfect Ozzy Album.
Necrotic Nick- Strangely I don't mind that song even if it's more than a bit on the dumb side.
Yeah, there’s definitely some I disagree with here, namely Cosmic Sea and Eye of the Beholder. I get why you dislike them though. Here are some of my picks for bad songs on amazing albums:
-Escape (Metallica: Ride the Lightning)
-Pink Cellphone (Deftones: Saturday Night Wrist)
-Sweating Bullets (Megadeth: Countdown to Extinction)
-Gangland (Iron Maiden: Number of the Beast)
-Painkiller (Death: The Sound of Perseverance)
-Surfin’ Bird (Sodom: M-16)
-Tattered and Torn (Slipknot: S/T)
Gojira - "A Sight to Behold" from The Way of All Flesh. As different and varied as Gojiras discography is, this song always gets skipped. That goofy ass alien voice. 🤣
Necrotic Nick- I don't mind that one even though it's not one of the stronger tracks on that killer album. The alien vocal thing is a bit weird though but Gojira does a lot of vocal effects anyway so I kinda let that one slide.
I actually like that one for its weirdness lol
For me, it's gonna have to be (Anathesi) Pulling Teeth off of Kill Em All - cannot stand that track.
Aside from that though, for me, Metallica's first FIVE albums are flawless - not a bad track on them.
I bought the black album on day of release, and still love it to this day. As did the majority of those who bought it back then.
Just thought of one...Morbid Angel Covenant. A brilliant album. First death metal release on a major label. Every song a banger even the insturmental is cool with the atmosphere, except one. Blood on my Hands. Just dont dig it.
another song that comes to mind is 31 flavors by sacred reich, good intentions behind it but it fucking blows
one terrible song of of a killer album is beyond the gates of infinity by rhapody, the album symphony of enchanted lands works perfectly without it as far as conceptual songwriting and overall flow, but that song is neither memorable or well written lyrically, the only song i ever consider filler of any record from any band.
also luna from ascending to infinity by luca turrili's rhapsody, everry other song is heavy with killer guitar work and composition and vocal work but luna just feels like a 90s rnb song with cliche lyrics etc, idk why that was on there but it is killer otherwise
I laughed about Am I Going Insane?!!!! And it even made to We Sold Our Soul To Rock And Roll lol
Necrotic Nick- I remember the first time I heard that song and thinking "how did this piece of shit make it on such a killer album". I still feel that way all these years later. lol
This might make you mad but Good Friends and a bottle of pills - Pantera on Far Beyond Driven
Dude, the cover of "Planet Caravan" is a dumpster fire! You don't wanna hear Phil Anselmo do that song!
Necrotic Nick- I mean, it's not a favorite on the album but I kinda like it as a fucked up little novelty of the interlude. lol
Necrotic Nick- What are you talking about, Robert? That cover is amazing.
for me perfect albums - Metallica, MH, Death, FF but everyone is different
Terrible songs from Good albums
Deeds of Flesh - Gradually Melted from Inbreeding the Anthropophagi ( the EP version was better, it sounds like it belongs on Kreator - Terrible Certainty ruining the dark Death Metal atmosphere of the album)
Cannibal Corpse - Covered With Sores ( bouncy, happy and skank beat repetitive fast polka) from Butchered At Birth
Judas Priest - Breaking the Law, You Don't Have to Be Old, and Living After Midnight ( 2 gay ass Barroom Boogie Pop songs ruined the flow of classic Metal ) from British Steel
the Doors - Roadhouse Blues ( ruins the otherwise atmospheric Psyche Rock of the Morrison Motel album, and all the bands that have covered that gay Honky tonk boredom track have successfully ruined their subsequent live albums)
As soon as you brough up Demanufacture album by Fear Factory, the first song I thought of was A Therapy for Pain. "Tried so hard" to like the song, but it's so boring. It just drags for almost 10 minutes and it sounds like the same riff over and over and does nothing interesting. Only song I don't care for on Demanufacture. Otherwise, the album kicks ass. I jam the title track and Replica during workouts constantly.
Overall, enjoyed the list. A couple I had were off Awake by Dream Theater, I never have liked Space-Dye Vest. I tried to like it and listen to it enough. I can't get into that song. I know it has its fans, but I am not one of them. Off of The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden, I never liked the opener, Invaders. It's so weird that a killer record begins the record with what I think is the throwaway track. I'm sure people disagree but I don't like that song. Definitely the weakest on Number of the Beast, imo.
Necrotic Nick- For years, I have given A Therapy for Pain so many chances and I still can't get into it. Such a brilliant album up until that closer. I honestly love pretty much all of Awake but there are some tracks I like less on there. Man, Invaders is catching a lot of heat on here. I like that song except for the lazier than hell chorus. Everything else about it I think is solid.
I love topics like this. I kind of agree with the cover of Nobody's Fault, although I wouldn't say it's necessarily terrible. Just a track that is kind of there, and quite an obvious label pushback. The others that I've heard in this video I'm sort of impartial to, and tbh I kinda like the bassline in Dawn Patrol 🤣 I'm struggling to think of others off the top of my head, but I'd say the one Iron Maiden track from their classic period I truly do not get on with is Invaders from Number of the Beast. I don't know what it is with that track, maybe the weird key change in the chorus, but I just don't like it! I even like Can I Play With Madness, and I think the other sucky Maiden singles came on sucky Maiden albums, but Invaders is an opening track that I just don't get along with
Necrotic Nick- Both Nobody's Fault and Dawn Patrol gave me the same kinda feeling. They both felt unnecessary and didn't compliment the album very well at all. The cover feels tacked on and they didn't sound very into it on the recording and Dawn Patrol is just kind of a WTF moment with a descent bassline. I think if both were not on those albums they're even better. With the song Invaders, the only thing I don't like about that song is the lazy chorus. The rest of it is fine to me. I think I had more of an issue with Die With Your Boots On on Piece of Mind for being an even more repetitive chorus.
Everytime I would jam Among the Living, the song One World just threw off the whole vibe, it just takes me out of the album. Each song is a classic except that one damn song.
On some of your choices...Dawn Patrol was always weird to me. Is Dave trying a British accent? Maybe they thought you needed a break between Tornado and the title track. Really not necessary.
Eye of the Beholder... Let's just agree to disagree. Yeah, weakest song on the album but I still love it. At least it's one of the "short" tracks on that one.
Cosmic Sea... You said you might get shit for that choice. To that end... 💩...there you go. 😂 Again I agree to disagree but I get your reasoning.
Nobody's Fault... Should have been a b side. Decent cover but... Yeah. Tonally not a good fit. The cover of Draw The Line they did later would have worked better if they HAD to stretch the run time and HAD to cover Aerosmith.
As for the rest I'm 100% with you. Or don't feel a desire to expand on what you said. Except Fear Factory. A bit ashamed to say I never could get into FF so there I don't have an opinion one way or the other.
Husker Du's Flip Your Wig - 'The Baby Song'... good grief
Necrotic Nick- To be honest, I'm not that familiar with Husker Du. Never really sat down and jammed them.
@@thrallsofmetal oh no, come now!!!
@@thrallsofmetal Nick, first of all, I LOVE the channel and it's furthering my current death metal obsession. I just discovered it about a month ago or so and can't get enough. To Husker Du, I can't recommend them enough. Any of their records from 1983's Metal Circus up to and including their 1987 swan song Warehouse: Songs and Stories are worth your time. My favorites are Zen Arcade and Flip Your Wig (mentioned above). That said, I don't mind "The Baby Song." It's cute and thankfully short. I would 100% nominate "How to Skin a Cat" from New Day Rising as otherwise ruining a perfect album, though! They weren't a metal band, of course, though Bob Mould did play a Flying V back then, but Tommy Lee does mention wanting to tour with them (and Iggy Pop) in the late '80s as opposed to Warrant and Whitesnake in The Dirt. Oh and hard but respectful disagree on "Eye of the Beholder" but couldn't agree more on "Am I Going Insane." I've never liked that song and I consider Sabbath to be one of my all-time favorites. I need to pick up Anno Domini. Pardon this scattershot comment. I'll have to relisten to the rest, particularly those Death and Megadeth songs. I noticed you had the 2004 mix of Rust in Peace. Do you prefer it or the original? I have the same disc, but need the original version.
Am I Going Insane- Black Sabbath- Sabotage. I love the album, but that track is just bad and kinda drags the album down. If it wasn't for that song, that album could be the best in Sabbath discography.
Agreed. The Writ, Megalomania, and Symptom kick ass. But Am I Going Insane is friggin whack.
Necrotic Nick- As much as I love Sabotage it'd be hard pressed to unseat Master of Reality and Vol. 4 from their spots even with Am I Going Inanse tossed into a musical woodchipper. That song is one of the biggest WTF's in the entire history.
First of all, totally agree with everything you said about Deftones. A little bit of a more obscure one though is Sunlight's Bane's TBVLATEWB. I followed those dudes since they were called Traitor and I loved all of their material that ended up on the Antiquated Chapters comp and I follow what all the members of that band do, even went to the release show, but the song Dance Of Thorns always stuck in my craw. I know you know what part I'm talking about lol it's a cool riff, but just I think goes on too long and always makes me want to skip it. Maybe if there was a message in the lyrics and they were a bit more enunciated it'd be cool, but I still love the album. It also bums me out because I don't believe those guys are still doing that band. Nathan is on to some cool bands though
Necrotic Nick- I do remember that one. I thought it was going to be a cool longer track on the album and it ended up droning on and I was pretty let down by how it just kinda gave up. It sucks because it started off really well.
Not one bad track on ‘…and Justice’,you should of chose something on ’Ride the Lightning’,that album doesn’t sound right for for some reason,my least fav 80’s Metallica album
Very true, weakest link on the Sabotage album. Agree hundred procent mate. Cheers!
Necrotic Nick- That song should be yeeted into the fuckin' sun. lol. Cheers, bro!
First song I could think of "Dawn Patrol". The first song you featured......................... "Dawn Patrol " :)
Is anyone gonna come out and say it already that "High Speed Dirt" ruins the otherwise flawless Countdown To Extinction?
Necrotic Nick- That was the first one I thought of before watching The Dark Path's video and there it was right out in front. lol. I'm not much of a fan of High Speed Dirt but I'm also not much of a fan of Captive Honor or Psychotron to be honest so I didn't include Countdown on this one.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, whoops, I forgot about Psychotron. Yeah, that's a stinker.
Eyes of the Insane off Christ Illusion. Always hated it
Black Sabbath Vol.4 - Changes. Kills that album for me.
Necrotic Nick- I adore that song honestly. It's a very emotional song that does fit the emotional feel of the album albeit differently.
@@thrallsofmetal That’s the best thing about music. It touches/relates to people differently. Be a bit boring if we all liked and disliked the same thing. That’s why these threads are great.
Each to their own. Vol. 4 is my favorite Sabbath album. It's their most diverse and experimental album, and all the music is good. I even like FX which is an interlude song with Tony Iommi just striking his cross above the pickup of his guitar. Changes is rad and I love the emotion portrayed with that song.
Prime Evil by Venom is incredible, but the cover of Megalomania is awful
I think Covered With Sores is too happy and bouncy for the Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth album. Dawn Patrol is a waste of space. Also the long whammy bar Heavy breathing intro of Meathook Sodomy goes on way too long. The whispered Vocals clean guitar track on Immolation - Harnessing Ruin destroyed the flow of an otherwise decent album. Iron Maiden - Run To the Hills is a song I skip on Number of the Beast because it has been overplayed. Cosmic Sea was totally unnecessary. There was already plenty of similar instrumental sections already incorporated into the actual songs
Cosmic Sea fits that album. Yeah, on it's own, is not some great stuff.
I like the bass line in dawn patrol but daves vocals are already pretty mediocre, trying to do a Lou Reid impression doesn’t make them better
I like Eye of the Beholder. My least favorite is One veary overplayet Song. I think Individual Trought Patterns is better than Human or i like it more!
I would say that "Lip Service" on Ballistic, Sadistic is trash! It's cringy!
Necrotic Nick- Definitely a cringe song but I wouldn't say Ballistic, Sadistic is a "killer album" in my opinion.
Ugh I LOVE So Far So Good So What but that Sex Pistols cover is Shit and ruins the flow of what I think is otherwise a pretty flawless album.
I remember the Sepultura ranking where Shredlord blew a bunch of raspberries over the cover of "Orgasmatron"!
Necrotic Nick- I agree but while I think that album is descent I'm not a giant fan of it. There's some killer songs on it like Set the World Afire but Liar and Mary Jane kinda weaken the album for me.
@@thrallsofmetal Love, love , love Mary Jane and Liar.
@@bschuler6216 same man, I can never understand why people dislike those tracks but to me their killer and make So far, So good...So What one of their best albums.
First track I thought of dawn partol
Necrotic Nick- Same here. I just don't get why that song is on that brilliant album.
Here are my pics for bad songs on good albums:
1. Shoot Shoot by Dio- I love Dio but this was a terrible closer
2. Heaven Can Wait by Iron Maiden- This was the only song on the album I didn't like. I just found the chorus very annoying and repetitive.
3. NFL by Anthrax- way too many goofy gang vocals; makes me think of a bunch of no-neck jocks in PCU screaming "Beer! Beer! Beer!" Hasn't aged well.
4. Jailbait by Motorhead- Ace of Spades is a great album but I personally find a song about a grown man not caring about having sex with an underage girl to be sickening and repulsive. This song is the only reason I don't own the album.
Necrotic Nick- I thought about Heaven Can Wait but it didn't give me the same feeling as the ones I already had. I love NFL honestly and Among the Living is one of those albums where I love every track on it. Jailbait is musically solid but yeah, the lyrics haven't aged particularly well at all. Pretty damn cringe.
Jailbait is a joke. They arent saying ‘yay minors’
while not a killer album per say destruction cracked brain is great however that cover of my sharona sucks.
Necrotic Nick- I don't own Cracked Brain but I've jammed it on UA-cam and I don't think it deserves a lot of the hate it gets. Least Successful Human Cannonball however... yikes. lol
@@thrallsofmetal thankfully ive never even heard it.
Walk - Vulgar Display of Power
Disco's Out, Murder's In - Light Camera Revolution
31 Flavors - The American Way
The Hunter - Danzig
Crazy Babies - No Rest for the Wicked
Too many cover songs to list
"Walk" is awesome and so is "Crazy Babies"! If I had a list of terrible songs from killer albums, it would be a mixture of rock, metal and pop:
Disposable Heroes-Metallica-Master of Puppets
No Quarter-Crowbar-Crowbar [I don't wanna hear Kirk Windstein do that cover and neither should you]
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy-Queen-A Day at the Races [cringe]
Lip Service-Annihilator-Ballistic, Sadistic
Ka-Ching!-Shania Twain-Up! [HUGE Shania fan, but "Ka-Ching!" is cringe]
All Through the Night-Cyndi Lauper-She's So Unusual
Never Die-Creed-Human Clay
One of My Turns-Pink Floyd-The Wall
All Love Is Lost-Body Count-Bloodlust
Darling Nikki-Prince-Purple Rain *[SUPER CRINGY]*
Necrotic Nick- I don't hate Walk but I never need to hear it again because it got so damn overplayed when I was young. I still kind like that Suicidal Tendencies track. It's dumb but enjoyable. lol
Necrotic Nick- Disposable Heroes?!?! That's one of the best track on Master of Puppets. Darling Nikki is an awesome song too.
Not all of these songs are the worst. Some of them are pretty much meh at best.
Revolution 9 The Beatles White Album
Charlotte the Harlot Iron Maiden Iron Maiden
Public Enemy # 1 Motley Crue Too Fast For Love
Escape Metallica Ride the Lighting
Story of a Lonely Guy Blink 182 Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
Here's some that I think are terrible:
Lip Service-Annihilator-Ballistic, Sadistic
Ka-Ching!-Shania Twain-Up!
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy-Queen-A Day at the Races *[SUPER CRINGY!]*
Necropedophile-Cannibal Corpse-Tomb of the Mutilated
No Quarter-Crowbar-Crowbar [You DO NOT wanna hear Kirk Windstein do that cover!]
Necrotic Nick- I agree with all of those (minus Blink since I'm not a Blink fan) except Escape. I actually like that song despite it getting a lot of hate from fans and the band itself.
@@thrallsofmetal I actually like Escape too. And it's not really bad. It's just not as good as the other songs are.
@@thrallsofmetal Necrotic, you'd better believe me that you do not wanna hear Kirk Windstein cover Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter"!
Necrotic Nick- I actually like that cover of No Quarter, Necropedophile is awesome and I dig the Queen song.
SODOM'S M16, It is a fucking banger of an album......but that very last track, the surfin bird cover is pretty bad, thank god its just the last track cause if it was in the middle it would've ruined the flow, i will say, although that cover is bad, i kind of find it a little funny, but only a little, otherwise, M16, SO DAMN GOOD, easy top 5 Sodom album , possibly even top 3, also listened to immolation's discography, i liked incantation, but immolation is so damn good, its my personal favorite of the 2
Totally agree with Surfin' Bird on M-16.
I would put Persecurion Mania, Agent Orange, Tapping The Vein & Decision Day over M-16. I might even put their self-titled and Better Off Dead above M-16. I was slightly underwhelmed by M-16, probably because it is pretty hyped up by fans. Code Red is pretty much just as good.
@@bschuler6216 yeah i agree a bit, personally I love almost every album they've released besides like a couple, so honestly its just how a feel certain days cause my top 5 or 10 can change some days, the only ones that stay in my top 5 are tapping the vein, agent orange, and decision day, somedays m16 for me would be a 5 but sometimes loses it over war and pieces, its just hard cause i really do engoy and love most their albums
@@doomguyrox1156 Right On! Sodom has an embarrassment of ritches, lol.
Necrotic Nick- Man, I had legit forgot about that cover. It's like I erased it from my memory it was so bad. lol. Yeah, that could have made the list for sure. Dude, Immolation's discography is flat out amazing. That will be a tough one to rank. It's still hard for me to say which band I like more between Incantation and Immolation since I love both.
@@thrallsofmetal yeah, although i prefer immolation, i still really love both incantation snd immolation, those bands were and still are really damn good
Nobody’s fault but mine is a zeppelin song not Aerosmith
Necrotic Nick- You're thinking of Led Zeppelin's "Nobody's Fault but Mine", bro. Aerosmith's "Nobody's Fault" was off of their album Rocks in 1976.
“America the Pitiful” on The Seventh Day God Created…Master by Master. Song blows. Album rips.
Salt City from Visigoths latest.
Necrotic Nick- I haven't jammed that one so I'm not familiar with it.
@@thrallsofmetal try it out. Its the most terrible song placement I can think of on an album. Its like they shoved a bonus track in the middle of an album that sounds nothing like the rest. Huge momentum killer for an otherwise awesome album.
awesome video
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man!
@@thrallsofmetal your welcome as always man
For me cleanse the soul on south of heaven. I don’t like that song one bit. The rest of the album is a masterpiece
Necrotic Nick- I think that song is weaker but I still like it. I don't think I've ever skipped that one unlike most of the ones on this list.
Dawn Patrol... yeah, bland and boring
