Its concerning that any elected officials don't know that a fundamental aspect of EBT food stamps is you can't buy hot food with it... Out of touch indeed.
Yea, that bothered me a little too. That’s why people need to know how real of a conversation this was. He pulled out stuff, that you never considered.
It's probably been a long time since Mayor Adams personally last qualified for a food assistance program. Possibly long enough that they were still using paper vouchers that either had looser rules or whose restrictions were harder to enforce. Most people don't keep track of the changes if they don't need to... though since his election he should really have gotten himself up to speed on things like this which affect so many of the people and businesses under his office's purview.
My understanding of why hot food is prohibited on EBT is that you're paying for the cooking instead of doing the cooking yourself. In theory the exclusion should be the same for *any* made-to-order or buffet items, but legislators tend to have weird sideways and backdoor ways of defining things that either disguise or distort their intentions (or those their colleagues across the aisle), adding loopholes that shouldn't be there for exploitation while closing out things that common sense would expect to be allowed.
Heck, I've seen EBT use at the grocery store disqualify a jar of peanut butter because the jar was under a certain minimum size. (I get *why* that minimum is in place; unit pricing is higher on smaller packaging because logistics plus profiteering, and the regulators want cost efficiency. Doesn't mean it doesn't cause tons of confusion and, worse, complications at the register. And for some reason just removing the disqualified items from the order and replacing them with the correct sizes wasn't an option; the cashier had to literally remove every single item from the order individually and refund the entire transaction and start over.)
If that wasn’t the realest question. Why I can’t get soup with my salad at star market
@@vonettaspencer2904 the mindset is a confusing one. On the one hand, EBT is supposed to specifically provide subsistence support, requiring the recipient to do the work of food prep... which would apply to the salad as well as the soup. In practice, salad is *much* more work intensive than many soups... and someone working more than 40 hours a week across two jobs just to meet rent and utilities and commuting costs without any leftover for food doesn't have time for food prep. It's still an odd way to define a difference between "grocery" and "restaurant", especially at places that function in aspects of both, like delis and many cafeterias and some bodegas. (Also, school cafeterias should be an exception to the no-prepared-food restriction, especially if they have discounts for financially-insecure students.)
Wait
That was the part that concerned you the most
Not the advocating against separation of church and state?
Oh well to each their own then
As someone who grew up with EBT, I appreciate this interview. That’s insane that he didn’t realize you couldn’t buy hot food. I remember when it was just my mom and I, and I was too young to work and she was struggling hella and they cut our food stamps to like $7 a month. Our government really doesn’t care about those truly struggling.
why would he. he spends most of his off time bootlicking nyc millionaires at club zero bond. A private night club. when does he have time to hang around people who are relying on EBT? this man is A fruad!
In NYC EBT DOES cover fast food guys!!!!
It's hard.
Are you OK now tho?
Hope that you are.
Wishing you all the best, to you and your family 🤍
@HeatherFaraMS At reduced price, though. Holchul signed the legislation for that in October.
He's really talking to the mayor like that? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hollered when he said '...so kids should smoke after school' the mayor's face priceless
😂😂😂😂
The fact that he didn't laugh at his joke makes me not want to vote for him
same! lol
@@abigaillabar8877 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Hot food for EBT! I had food stamps for some months while I was very sick. I wish I could have bought a roasted chicken or hot soup on the days it was hard to get out of bed.
Prayers back in the schools?! Separation between church and state, and schools are government entities. NYC is so diverse that it doesn't make sense at all - plenty of people are either agnostic, atheist, or practicing other religions. If anyone wants their children to pray in school, they can go to a religious school.
Did he say to put it in schools? I think he said into their lives and noted that the Constitution wouldn’t allow it to be in schools.
@@brynneholt1990 True, but matters of spirituality/religion are definitely not within the official purview of a mayor, and so I find Adams's mentioning more than once in this brief conversation (re)inserting spiritual matters into youth culture (in some unspecified way(s)) at least somewhat disconcerting.
I think kids should be allowed to organize themselves into prayer groups without hindrance from the school, but it doesn't need to be sanctioned by the school system. I'm a Christian and believe in freedom of religion. If I were Muslim or Jewish, I wouldn't want a school sanctioned prayer in the name of Jesus. As a Christian, I wouldn't want to participate in a Hindu prayer or meditation. It should be left to the kids to decide for themselves. And they should be taught to respect others' beliefs.
@@simoneanne01 They can, at church, at home, even on the sidewalk. Keep the mythology out of school unless it's in a class about mythology.
@@flutaphonejohnson, I agree, although Adams was distinguishing "spirituality" from "mythology" here.
Proponents of school prayer see "spirituality" as an essential aspect of the human condition, common to people of diverse religious persuasions, independent of the particular "mythology" in each case. By exploring and comparing their spiritual experiences, often thru group prayer, the students come to be more in touch with an important element of our culture.
Opponents of school prayer point out that (1) spirituality is by no means a universal part of human experience, and (2) for those who do feel a strong spiritual drive, it's generally inextricable from their mythological beliefs, and therefore impossible to discuss in a neutral school setting. There is a time and place for everything, and the school days is not the time or place for prayer.
Adams' own argument in favor of school prayer--- that it will reduce school shootings--- is, I assume, just a fanciful turn of speech, not to be taken literally; that said, it does reveal his attitudes, and they are concerning.
They filmed this at my job. It was all love and all fun!
❤❤❤
Where was this filmed at?
Yo this is so dope ..a Marlon this wat we been waiting for 💯💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is the funniest segment I've seen in a long time. Arnold Schwartzenegro, lol.
Yessss I agree!!
I’m just a bill. A Quon loving bill.
😂❤
Chris Redd did an awesome impersonation of Mayor Adams on SNL before he left. I mean it was perfect!
Marlon naturally funny
Really because he looks like the reflection of everything that's wrong in the United States.
This was hilarious to me! Definitely have met a NYer before exactly like this! 🤣 this may resonate with New Yorkers more...I expected to see more comments about how funny this was, but the tone is mostly serious. He played that New York guy to a T!
He is always a bit cringe. Funny guy but comes off as too thirsty for a laugh.
Marlon and his siblings from Harlem lol
I think we should all have tempered expectations. The segment is a new, original interview segment. At the same time, I think the act helps to soften the mayor up. I wish he managed to hide more real questions into the act. In similar acts when the interviewer plays a character like Borat, sometimes the character can get the interveiwee to be open in ways a regular interviewer cannot. To that point, this was a missed opportunity because that didn't really happen.
To be fair he got him from the start by not knowing hot food on EBT and seperation of church and state. Some would even argue having kids smoke after school was another slip up
Ahahaha, "you put the mask on, you'd be Blankman" XD
what a wasted opportunity to ask real questions
thats why Hasan Minaj would be perfect. He asks the hard questions and makes it funny
He asked very real questions. They are assumingely not “your” real questions.! I know we shouldn’t assume. But hey, you did it first. 😊
especially because this mayor does not like dealing with the press much. this was total garbage!
This is cringe
The comedy was worth it
“ they should smoke after school” 😂😂😂
That’s it! Marlon can be the permanent host 😂 or at least Quan 🤣
This man is HORRIBLE. Please stop letting him get away with it. Thanks. A New Yorker.
Well, here’s an update: he’s getting persecuted by the FBI and a SA allegation.
Yo, The Quan character is funny. Hope I see more
Nah, if you don’t know someone like that, this is 90s New York and take him out his element at the same time. And exposing what the mayor don’t know at the same time ooo 🌶🌶
Damon brought something back from my childhood Schwarzanegro 😂😂
"Blankman" 🤣
It was funny I definitely thought there were gonna be some real questions about his policy detrimental effects on NY’s Black and Brown community.
It was disappointing he didn't use this opportunity to ask real questions. They were all softballs.
Detrimental policies like what?
@@changeoffocus1074 bringing back stop and frisk for one
@@jayyetron5785 that’s right! The previous NYC Mayor stopped that because he didn’t want his biracial son (that looks str8 blk) stopped.
What else? ANYTHING ELSE THAT ONLY IMPACTS MELANATED ppl..
Mandates causing ppl to loose jobs? Funny enough NYC has ended the mandates with a clause.. stating that those fired can re-apply for their old jobs and if rehired must sign a waiver decking back pay.. lol he’s crazy.. if New Yorker vote him in for a 2nd term I’d be surprised!
Marlon you are the realest funny King 👑 😂😂😂
That’s Blankman right there! Loved Damon in that flick
This interview is a work of art.
Yes, *both* incredible actors.
Nah i just felt real bad😂
Alright, someone message me when Hasan Minhaj is back.
Im a Wayne’s fan but he’s not that great as the host. Hasan was killing it.
It’s a joke relax Karen
“You be Blankman.”
One of my childhood favorites. Completely underrated movie
Am a Wayans fan . But disappointing. Instead of him doing a serious interview with humor mix in he just went straight humor and promoted stereotypes. Should just stick to regular interview.
That’s not what he did. Pay attention to the conversation. There are real people that these things are are important to. Who said every interview has to be straight suit and tie, cut and clean.! Wait, isn’t that stereotyping.???
totally agree. This was garbage...
@@ari3300 hey, as long as you say you don’t like it for you, I totally understand that. And that is to be respected.
You don't understand that most regular people aren't asking extremely complicated questions. That's the point. Regular people exist as well. That's what we on the left forget.
I thought I was the only one…this was a waste of air time and time with the mayor smh
Because freedom of religion should include freedom _from_ religion.
No need to infect kids with magic-man-in-the-sky bs.
Exactly!
💯any religion, in the wrong hands with harmful intentions, can be dangerous, to the point of deadly. Can't backpedal death.
I agree and disagree to some extent because it depends on how they use said religion. If you're like MTG and you're talking about Christian nationalism then yes freedom from religion 100% but if they're actually using it to actually spread positivity as it's supposed to then I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea
Agreed
@@mlggamer5296 seems to be the same argument used when it comes to more guns.
Rest Easy FuQuan.. Great Job Marlon.. FUEVER🙏🙏🤣🤣🤣
No prayers please. As an atheist, that’s imposing your beliefs upon my children.
Fully understood the message👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽
Love it.
Great sense of humor by the mayor 😂
That smoke is everywhere, shockingly so, and I'm from Colorado. Lol.
Love this!! It was very New York in here!!
Yoooo Marlon is mad funny LOL
Quan: "You should do some Arnold Schwarzennegro..." Hah Marlon! All day!
Not everyone is religious or needs to be. There’s a reason why there’s separation of church and state. Religion does not and never has belonged in public schools.
Quon looks way more like Marlon Wayans then the mayor looks like Damon Wayans… tell me I am lying
You joking right?
Great work y’all! I was dying the whole time. I needed this. Thank you🔥🔥💯
Jon stewart would never do fluff with a nyc mayor like this
but your mom did
True. This was sycophantic boot licking.
If you really think this was all fluff, I can break it down for you to where it’s truly not.
@@djsilent01 I understand it's satire but it's not effective or funny
Jon Stewart isn't a street dude from nyc
Mayor got bars!
NYers We love Quan
desus and mero want their set back lol
😂😂😂😂😂 he sound like NORE😂😂😂😂😂😂!!!!!!!
Not only should prayers not be in schools, the pledge of allegiance shouldn't be recited by kids either.
It's something straight out of a dystopian novel. Cringe AF.
How much you look like Damien Wayne , BLANKMAN!! ❤
Damon Wayans* 😂💯
Silliness aside, I really appreciate the mayor's sentiment about praying for somebody and knowing your peace may not be their peace. This is not only important for people who believe they can pray things away but for all people; since so many think wishing somebody well is wishing they become what you want.
You heard the interview. Thank you.
Everyone else (mostly Yt’s) didn’t see themselves centered in the conversation like with Hassan and missed the entire point.
Marlon in character is funny af ❤😂❤😂
AM I THE ONLY PERSON THAT REALIZES THAT IN THE VIDEO THEY SPELL QUON WITH AN OOOOOOOOOOOOOO LOL
Marlon let that NYC out on dis one lol
love it. I want some hot food!
weekly segment please
Pawned the chain during quarantine and got the EBT card that get the cold food that you gon make Hot
Dear Mayor: The absolute LAST thing we need in schools, is church. That's precisely what created the divisiveness we have today.
Look at Giuliani in black face.
Loved this
Instead of this cringe, I would’ve loved for Marlon to switch it up and ask him some hard questions. Id like to see this man explain himself.
Love it
Usually the Daily Show doesn’t go for copaganda but
What’s copaganda?
@@zakhifikes4119 Google is a thing
He asked Nathan Wade the tough questions but he went soft on the mayor
Wish this was a real Q & A.
Marlon is fantastic with stand-up and in movies. I prefer Hasan as host though. But i guess you gotta try it to see if it works. I will wait to see what Marlon has to say about this experience on his next special.
I’m rollin 😂
Bodega boys!
Ah yes, NYC's mayor that lives in NJ and says church is the core of government. Why throw softballs for this guy?
😂😂made the daily show watchable again since NOAH 🎉
This was fun 😆 🇰🇪
Wairimu you were there?
I was very disappointed in this interview. Could have been more in depth.
Yea. It's a comedy show. He was playing a character of a regular person who probably wouldn't be able get in the room to even be able to ask a question which is the point. Talk about depth.
hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣 Marlon a trip
Should have asked him to define CHRSTIAN PRIVILEGE
Oh, I guess it's meant to be comical 🫢🤫🤔
😂 they should smoke after-school
When do they ask questions
If the idea is to truly "chop it up," then they hit the nail on the head. It has that kind of tone. But I understand the frustration of folks who wanted Adams to answer the tough questions and not be let off the hook for the sake of a joke.. I just don't think this is the segment for that.
He asked questions from a unique type of Black perspective using jokes and an exaggerated character from that perspective. Each question had a purpose and served to speak to that community. Those complaining aren’t from that community.
Mayor Adam’s is for the ppl.
Mayor...what is spirituality? how do you define spirituality? How are you going about doing that? Let's hope the outcome is not like another evangelical denomination 🫣
Spirituality is your relationship with a higher power and religion is your relationship with the church. Spiritual ppl would say what is right or wrong based off a personal moral compass and they may use a religious text to guide their faith but it’s not a definitive truth for them.
It’s highly subjective and varies from person to person. They are also typically open minded in conversations about faiths and different beliefs
That’s my question too
The spiritual question was asked. Just not the one from your perspective.
Don’t get religion involved with politics.
He didn’t break character once.. 🫡
I hope you become the host Marlon for obvious reasons there is nothing you can't do
Loved it 😂😂
I appreciate his energy for this show
Quan is Tyrone Brother !
I like Mayor Adams
He DK BlankMan😂😂😂😂
Recall Eric Adams. He's a moderate hack and way too full of himself.
Could've had Yang
@@MartianManHunter7 Oh gawd. I forgot about that crazy idea.
@@queenredspecial Yeah, cuz Adams has been absolutely amazing just like his predecessor
@@MartianManHunter7 They have all been horrible. That changes nothing.
I clicked on this because I thought he was Tiger Woods. 😂😂😂
The mayor showed up and it was all a joke. I get it, comedy central but on the serious note. This isn't worth watching.
I’m sorry that you didn’t truly hear the interview.
This "interview" style is not my cup of tea. I understand the Daily Show is exploring options but this style may do better in a different show instead.
If he played an up tight student from Brown asking nuanced questions that regular people don't care about would that have made you feel better?
Adams shouldn't have done this, I know it's comedy but it's disrespectful.
Talk about it bro.. all I can get on my EBT card in the hood is cold cut subs and tuna sandwiches.. we deserve better
Nice real interview. Made me like Eric adams but I’m still mad he sicked the police on homeless people in New York though.
That Govt cheese is the best grilled cheese ever. If you know you know.. MR. mayor deff dont know. 😢😢
Prayer is back in school. Please don't let us get shot, protect students and teachers from these lunatics
Everything is Not...A... JOKE 😔 People Are Suffering 😪 In NYC💔
Prayer in schools? To solve gun violence? Prayer always works? Ignorance about EBT? This politician’s terrifying. The only question Adams handled “tactfully” was the part where he tolerated Quan’s (grandmother’s) homophobia.
Marlan Wayans - you are Quan
PLEASE take Hasan as a permanent host and this guy as a permanent interviewer for the daily show.
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
