@@Steve-eq8iz the last few games might be the most exciting. Especially if there are barely any differences in pts between teams. Everyone is trying to finish as high as they can. And if u want knockout round play offs there are 2-3 other Cup knockout round competitions every Yr
Playoffs are really stupid, you play bad the entire season, barely make it to the playoffs, and you can win the whole season, it doesn’t measure your all year long performance

Liverpool haven’t won the Premier League which started in the 92/93 season. They have won the First Division before which is what preceded the Prem
Exactly. Playoffs only work in the UK for promotion reasons - 4 teams who don't get the 2 automatic promotion places at end of the season (the equivalent from minor to major leagues), get the chance to grab the last promotion spot through the Playoffs. In the States there is no promotion in professional sports, so there it makes more sense as it adds more overall excitement.

The offside rule is to stop a striker just standing next to the goal post the whole match, getting long balls and knocking them into the goal 50 times a game.
It's the Premier LEAGUE, CUPS contain playoffs. Some of our tournaments have both a cup and league format. Normally, it starts with a knockout phase before a league part which finally leads onto another knockout phase usually containing 16 teams left at that stage. No playoffs and no extra-time or penalty shootout is what makes the league format its own thing kind of special thing. It's like one very long-distance run versus a Cup as being a few 100m runs, a whole different approach is needed if you're going to go the length and win yourself a League.

It's all semantics I guess. We hadn't technically won the top league in the Premier League/Premiership era before 2020. Those 18 wins were just under a different name. Hopefully another League win to follow real soon...
Can you imagine if first place are 15 points ahead of second place after 38 games but for some reason they have to play a game against the second place team and lose? That would be so gutting.

Why? The whole point of the league format is that dominance and superiority isn’t decided on one game but over the course of many games. I’m saying this despite the fact the idea of a play off game at this stage would be incredibly appealing to me as a Liverpool supporter. Americans have playoffs and all that other stuff because pretty much all their different sports leagues are 100% confined to American competition with exceptions with Canada so they need these kinds of tie breakers I guess to spice it up. And I don’t know about every sport but I know in American football they split their season into two one is for the actual league season and the other is for the Super Bowl whereas European football is played across the continent all year round. They’re both different for very good reasons, Americans should keep their systems because they work for them, there’s nothing wrong with our system so it doesn’t need updating or revising.
