Aw shucks. I was hoping you were going to have a look in the little Elddis 304. The uk's smallest proper 4 berth caravan. I'm off to the Elddis factory in two weeks to have a look, but id have loved seeing your reaction in a tiny van.
I do wonder how many caravan designers would design their vans different if they lived in them for a month or two. It is sometimes the little things that make big differences.
ALL of them IF they thought most caravans were to be used full time...yet the industry is still mired in the yearly vacation and/or weekend jaunt mentality.. I am stymied why no one has a rating called FT for full time use. Maybe for 2020?
We are currently looking to purchase the Elddis affinity 574 or Compass Capiro 574 on the specification inside and out also we have to consider the MTPLM as we don't want to change our tow car we like a few more but the restrictions on the tow weights has limited the scope of the type we want we will decide at the caravan show in Birmingham in October and look for a deal Thanks for your time in the UK i have followed you when you were back in New Zealand Loved your shock at the technology in the Peugeot 3008 loan car and your sleepless nights reading the instruction manuals on the Caravans (PS in UK you can get Sat Navs for caravan drivers to take you away from most of the small roads)
Ah nice! Sounds like you’ve narrowed down your selection. Good point about the MTPLM restrictions. And glad you’ve enjoyed my UK videos so far 😀😀 I’ve heard about this amazing sat nav! Wish I’d contacted the company before coming over...
The large front seating areas are really nice. Very spacious. They really have added many amenities from campers/caravans in the past. Not a fan of the beds that have the angle cuts on them. They would be fine for one adult, but two adults may be a little tight near the foot of the bed. I was surprised to see all the towell warmers that appeared to be offered. But i did like the wash cloth or towel hangers for after the shower drying. Yes i have to agree on all the color palettes shown. They are very pleasing to the eye. I was womdering how much weight had been added with some of the bigger features on the campers/caravans. I notice than the L shaped vans whilst sat down you face a wall..We are in our caravan at present and out of that window I can currently see the sky line and trees as far as the eye can see
I like the idea of electric AND gas hob options. Be handy if you needed to conserve power for any reason or if power fails. All very spacious and well thought out compared to 'back-in-the-day' caravans. Just wondering about awnings?
Yes, I have the electric and gas option in my NZ caravan and have found it handy. Hmmm awnings, I’ve found there are a huge variety here. Not sure if it came with one.
Really nice video, I’m looking for a twin axle six berth. You asked to comment on what we liked but you didn’t tell us what any models were! Do you remember what the bunk beds next to the double (french bed) are? Overall good work in my opinion, a little more info would be nice at times.
It is interesting to see the different designs, there's a lot of similar layouts. I do wonder though if you would have some different thoughts on layouts and the space given to each part of the layout as you live full time in a touring caravan? Some of the small details make a big difference in day to day life.
Hmmm, don’t worry when someone comes along with negative comments, and definitely don’t alter your style. I like it because it is different. You show enough to give me a flavour of what is there, if I want more I will look for one of the more detailed model reviews that will be along, or even go and look myself at one. Although well past the bunks stage I am not sure the combined bunk and bed area would have suited when we had kids of bunk age and size. It’s probably ok for someone who changes vans every three or four years, with kids between 3 and 8 years. Showers, the thing I look for is can I do the funky chicken, many are on the small side. But, as with all leisure vehicles it will be about the compromise. We now have a motorhome where the wheel arch intrudes into the shower area - it’s not ideal but everything else works for us so that’s our compromise. Keep these general overviews going, but try to ensure the new or novel is covered in them if you can. Safe journeys, and keep smiling.
Thanks Eddie! Yes, good point that the bunk set-up would only work for a limited time. Best description about the funky chicken 🤣 And I agree that there’s usually a compromise involved.
I love that caravans and motorhomes are using more subtle fabrics for the seating areas, the sort of fabrics you would have in your home, instead of the rather gaudy patterns they have used in the past in the mistaken belief that they wouldn’t show the dirt.
Hi Karen I liked the first one. Did you know that the bloke who started Elddis Caravans his real name is Siddle so all he did was to reverse his name as it sounded a better name to call his company xx
Did any of them have a gauge or light to tell you how full your grey water or black water tanks were? They may have been nice looking but I bet they were expensive. Thanks for the tour. 👍
UK caravans don't have grey waste tanks fitted, and only higher end models would have an internal fresh tank. We tend to stick with external Aquaroll and Wastemaster fresh and grey tanks.
@@davidmbell Wait...do you mean black water tank? If not...where does the shower and sink water go? Oh wait...is there very little boondocking in the UK? Everyone mostly stays in designated parks?
@@davidmbell, that would be why there are no grey or black water tanks. I get it now, it is just hard to understand why you have caravans if they won't let you boondock. Some of America's best scenery is where we have no parks for camping. So we have to go offgrid and boondock for a week or two.
Nice campers. But I like the American campers more. Several interesting options there. If I could, I think I'd get the Wildwood FSX 179DBK from Forest River. Very nice layout and the perfect size. ...for me.
One thing that always gets my goat is how no caravan company has yet to figure out that lounge area seating needs to incorporate back support. Bench seating is what you use to rest for a while not spend an evening sitting on. They always prioritise unecessary windows.
It's not about the windows its the fact that those rear cushions become the bed and so have to be that size to fill the gap in the cushions when the bed is made up
@@davidmbell They can make cushions in two parts, hardly advanced technology and you will find few manufacturers that don't make the front seating area like a goldfish bowl there is so much window space. It like spending the evening relaxing on a windowsill in a house.
Had a week of crazy spring weather in Auckjand.Tornadoes even A 69 Ft cat on a mooring flipped, The Gt Barrier fcar erry got blown off the wharf, containers got blown off the stacks, roofs got blown off in Mission Bay. Everyones ok
Hi karen , there's some beautiful caravans out there. Did you know that Elddis caravans were founded by a man called Siddle,,,,,he reversed his name to become elddis x
I do not like the bunkhouse next to the main bed setup. In the US the adults would have a 60x80 inch bed up front with access to the bed from both sides, meaning no crawling over your partner to get in and out of bed. Since 60x80 inches is also the same dimensions as a residential queen size bed, it means you can buy fitted sheets anywhere. The bunks would typically be in one corner of the back, so there is plenty of separation between adults and children. So the layout I saw was not anything I'd want. Refrigerators also tended to be quite small. Mine is 8 cubic feet, with the freezer having its own door. I'll let you do the conversion to metric on the size. Many of the trailers I saw had a single axle, where in the US only very small trailers are single axle. A double axle setup is much more stable. Bathrooms did tend to be quite spacious, which is a plus for a tall person like myself. Although I'm not sure how much headroom there is in the shower. Trailers in the US tend to have a skylight over the shower, so even a very tall person can stand upright.
Great video Karen. Some very nice caravans there. The ones with the double and two singles together looked very cosy, ideal for smaller children, I’m not sure teens would want to be sleeping with their parents. I like the fixed double bed options best, with bathrooms at end, that’s my preferred layout. It’s great to have a nosey round new caravans isn’t it😀😀👍👍
That tiny toilet area where you just about had to cross your legs to sit would be absolutely useless to me - 1.8m tall and 124kg - even if I left the door open it still looks too small.
Very good review and as usual Elddis do good cosmetically but rubbish quality had a new Elddis in 2012 and problems from 1st year , relieved when traded it in for a new Swift Conqueror 480 , design an quality much better .
I'd change the springs in all the door catches - they all creaked ! They'll be so annoying at night when going for a leak and trying not to disturb anyone else ! You're so very much into your materials whereas I'd be looking at practicality - like the table stowed in the cupboard - at the hinge side - so the door would need to be wide open to get the table out - where as if it was on the other side, you could get the table out with the door open only part way. We didn't get to see how the seating area changed into more beds - it looked like the bench cushions would need turning round so that the fatter parts under the knees when sitting would actually be against the wall in bed mode. I'm going to next watch your cooking in a caravan vid - microwaves hadn't been invented when we were caravanning and if we had an oven, don't recall it ever getting used!
I’ll agree about the creaking door handles!! And nice point with the table. Guess I wasn’t brave enough to assemble the beds with people walking around 🤣 Ohh haha enjoy my cooking video!
@@TravellingK At least in the cooking, ha ! video, it seemed you had warmer weather ;) We once had a 'fortnight' tour of Scotland - which we shortened to 10 days as it nearly rained every day ! I think I'd be in favour of all beds folding up out of the way though - and those bathrooms - some take up far too much space for the relatively short time they're used. Odd that it doesn't seem caravans have adapted the RV truck idea of side that expand outwards once on site to make more room inside. Still, better than a tent ! May be tenting is your next trial - after narrowboating !
NOTHING can compare to an American made AirStream. No cut off mattresses or weird arrangements. Just a homey, perfectly designed and produced home away from home living space.
Sorry, Scot you obviously are not following K. She has being been sticking her nose in Swift and a factory tour of Bailey, which was fascinating I might add. I'm sure neither company are related to Elddis .

One thing that always gets my goat is how no caravan company has yet to figure out that lounge area seating needs to incorporate back support. Bench seating is what you use to rest for a while not spend an evening sitting on. They always prioritise unecessary windows.
It's not about the windows its the fact that those rear cushions become the bed and so have to be that size to fill the gap in the cushions when the bed is made up
I wish they made the most of the kitchen counter for a back rest. I pile up the couches there as it’s my favourite spot.
@@davidmbell They can make cushions in two parts, hardly advanced technology and you will find few manufacturers that don't make the front seating area like a goldfish bowl there is so much window space. It like spending the evening relaxing on a windowsill in a house.
@Creative Kiwi Indeed. I've leaned back on many and realised my head is infact outside the caravan.
@@TravellingK Yes you have to work out how to be comfortable on those seats they don't offer it as standard.
Nice review, my favourite was the last one
It was the more prestigious I think 😀
I would oil the hinges on the table extension 12:05
You will get good at such things and many other maintenance items if you buy a caravan. No problem whatsoever.
Ha, guess it was too new!!
I like those bunk beds! nice reviews 👍
I’ll be curious to see how you like your caravan set-up!
@@TravellingK yeh true! You can come film a tour of it 😁 compare English caravans to Australian ones!
Truma Heater ?
It was Truma hot water... pretty sure it was Truma heater too as they were working closely together.
Had a week of crazy spring weather in Auckjand.Tornadoes even A 69 Ft cat on a mooring flipped, The Gt Barrier fcar erry got blown off the wharf, containers got blown off the stacks, roofs got blown off in Mission Bay. Everyones ok
Oh wow! That’s insane weather!! Glad to hear everyone is ok 😳
Hi karen , there's some beautiful caravans out there.
Did you know that Elddis caravans were founded by a man called Siddle,,,,,he reversed his name to become elddis x
So insane!
looks nice -- but would do a narrow boat if I could!
Fair enough! Narrow boats do have a certain charm, don’t they!
Oh I enjoyed this comparison! Thank you. I do want to one day see more American ‘travel trailers’.
@@TravellingK Haylett RV has lots of trailer reviews on UA-cam.
Need a truck to pull the caravan at 6:00!
There are some bigger caravans there 🤣 But all so light!
Great video Karen. Some very nice caravans there. The ones with the double and two singles together looked very cosy, ideal for smaller children, I’m not sure teens would want to be sleeping with their parents. I like the fixed double bed options best, with bathrooms at end, that’s my preferred layout.
It’s great to have a nosey round new caravans isn’t it😀😀👍👍
Teens don't fancy going on a holiday in a caravan with the parents anyway. At least, not when they reach 15-16 yrs. 😁
Good point about teenagers wanting more privacy! I’ve enjoyed having a nosy too 🤣
Enjoyed the vlog don't worry about the nay sayers we all have to pay our way the best we can
Thank you! Guess it’s hard to please everyone anyway?
FORD. MANUL.. TRY FOR 12 MHS. .
Man i wanna caravan now lol
Haha awesome 😀
That tiny toilet area where you just about had to cross your legs to sit would be absolutely useless to me - 1.8m tall and 124kg - even if I left the door open it still looks too small.
I did wonder about their though process with the size of that space...
Very good review and as usual Elddis do good cosmetically but rubbish quality had a new Elddis in 2012 and problems from 1st year , relieved when traded it in for a new Swift Conqueror 480 , design an quality much better .
Oh really! That’s a shame to hear. Glad you’re liking your new caravan.
You don’t need the bunk beds
Ha, true
Guess I wasn’t brave enough to assemble the beds with people walking around 🤣
Ohh haha enjoy my cooking video!
@@TravellingK At least in the cooking, ha ! video, it seemed you had warmer weather ;)
We once had a 'fortnight' tour of Scotland - which we shortened to 10 days as it nearly rained every day !
Elddis, Are The Best
Now just glue on a cab abd engine and all done!
Haha, so I should have checked the motorhomes and vans for you?
Absolutely 😊
Lol yes check out the campers too please
NOTHING can compare to an American made AirStream. No cut off mattresses or weird arrangements. Just a homey, perfectly designed and produced home away from home living space.
An Airstream is just so beautiful too
Cool video k
Thanks James!
You would make a good sale woman well presented
Haha, thank you? It’s been really interesting looking through these caravans.
If yoy need a plass to camp out in hams...
Thank you 😀
I like your videos, but that constant eerie background music just weirds me out
Unfortunately I’m a background music fan 😜 But do need to find some new options!
At least consider pausing the music while you are speaking. It's difficult for old farts like me hear what you're saying with music playing. Cheers!
Sorry K. Boring not what I expected from Travelling K, UK visit
It is a different type of video 🤷♀️
@@TravellingK It's only feed back Karen, people enjoy watching you for your adventures...
Seriously, a woman on holiday in the uk now being paid by elddis.
No payment... although I did get a free lunch 😜
Sorry, Scot you obviously are not following K. She has being been sticking her nose in Swift and a factory tour of Bailey, which was fascinating I might add. I'm sure neither company are related to Elddis .
Oh dear Scotia. A seriously uninformed comment you have made there. Perhaps take a look through some of Karen's other videos.
Having a bad day are we? You obviously assume too much and know too little, this is so sad. Scotia, not all thoughts that come to mind should become a comment on UA-cam. For example...my first two sentences.
@@TravellingK - You are kidding ? 4000 views already. This advert is worth LOTS.
