- Another Week, Another insane dungeon Galactic has made me do. In my Journey to see all the great things about FFXIV I have had the pleasure to visit Tam Tara Deepcroft Hard where it is.. literally a nightmare... Here is what happened.

@@maxspecs I gotta get more aetherpool, me and a buddy were duoing it for the moogle tomes, but we were stuck on floor 98. If we’d gotten there earlier it wouldn’t be a problem, just start farming more aetherpool, but we were trying to wrap it up in the last few hours before the event ended 🤦♂
It’s a deep dungeon: there’s three so far, in arr, strbld, and ew, it’s basically a procedurally generated (but not really) dungeon made from a selection of rooms that changes each floor, slowly getting harder as you go further down, with its own loot and mechanics, and it starts whatever character you use at base start level for that expansion, potd at close to 1 etc. infact potd is great for new classes from base game to level because you earn quite a bit of xp from it for a low lvl class
*ARR Spoilers*
Fun fact: you can find Liavinne's corpse inside the waking sands during the garlean raid, right after you beat Titan.
There’s even a whole minor subplot about her beating alcoholism and finally getting her life together right before she died if you talk to all the npcs in between msq beats.

@@funklestiltskin6140 The Garlean raid was what taught me to actually pay attention to and talk to NPCs. Never spent time talking to any of them in the past, then I watched someone else do a NG+ playthrough and they showed how the dialogue changed throughout the MSQ for each person, and I realized how much I missed up to that point. So from then on I always make sure to talk to everyone whenever something big happens
@@TheValiantBob For me, it was talking to the NPCs outside Copperbell mines and Isildaure telling me about finding the group that you met right after Sastasha.
@@TheValiantBob Don't forget the whole soap opera that runs between Aenir and the Boulder Twins, entirely outside of MSQ, if you just pay attention to what's happening in the Rising Stones.
Two fun things about this quest. First. The final boss arena has a lot of like arcane writing all over the ground but the big circle in the middle is the fun part. The big letters spell Avere in Eorzean. The thing with the zombies crawling to the center? If you don’t stop them the letters light up and if Avere’s name is spelled out, you die.
Second. At the start, when you first run into Paiyo again, Edda is briefly standing in the background staring at the both of you. FOR ONLY ONE CAMERA CUT BEFORE SHE DISAPPEARS.
I have that footage... I wonder if she's still there lol the zombie crawl is terrifying lol
Edda is actually in the cutscene in Ul'Dah, shes hidden just behind the player in certain shots because you can see her hat poking just a bit through. It's a blink and you miss it.
Edda also appears in the city states for a split second at night at a certain time (Eorzea time) and this continues until palace of the dead is completed.
I think there is also a weather requirement of rain or thunder also for her to appear in the city states

1. This entire storyline was just plain *tragic*
It reminds you that although YOU are basically invincible, a lot of other adventurers aren't so lucky and meet very gruesome fates like this group.
One of them dies, literally beheaded by a monster
2nd falls to alcoholism after their party disbands and starts to get her life together JUST before she dies
3rd basically quits adventuring
4th falls to madness and starts using Void magic
Even scarier is that sometimes Edda will just... *show up*
Her model is there sometimes in-game with no description or anything, she's randomly in cutscenes hidden *just barely* out of sight etc.
It really sells that the horror aspect of this quest

Added to this, Edda's ghost will periodically appear in New Gridania behind the Carpenters Guild where the kids are playing, behind the lamp post, watching... This will happen only when both of the following two conditions are met: It's Raining and it's 2am Eorzian time

Something that really stuck with me with this dungeon is that it was the first time when we win the dungeon that we do not have our character triumphantly celebrate victory, the screen jsut shows the party frozen in the same horror and sadness the story made me feel and it was jst amazing.
You also got to appreciate that they gave those one note characters that were basically just there to show how cool we are a follow up story.
I liked the final pay off of seeing some of these other adventuring parties around. iirc Edda's party was mostly there to show you the supposed dangers of adventuring(even though we'll never see it because of game reasons)

The final boss arena of this dungeon has a bunch of Eorzean script in circles on it, supposedly as a spell circle of some sort. It is just the word AVERE over and over and over again in different sizes.
Lol terrible. I also was told that of the zombies reach the center they spell out average and it causes a wipe
Thing is… this story kinda continues in an optional rogue-lite mode known as Palace of the Dead.
Also, yeah, Edda’s laugh is creepy as all heck, double so when it comes from the speaker of one’s DualShock controller!

Early ARR spoiler: Another dungeon that is pretty disturbing if you pay attention to the surrounding NPCs is the very first one, Sastasha. It was a human trafficking hub.
When you initially pick up the quest in Ul'dah, during that cutsceene of Paiyo Reiyo talking, have a look behind. Behind the Chocobo moving about, there's Edda!
Also, you can run into her ghost.
oh man, it's true! you can see her in this video too even! at 0:40 she's on the right partially hidden by the sign I think!
There are tales that players have seen Edda’s model walking around with no nameplate in the city states during the Halloween seasons.
yeah and if you do this dungeon and quest, Edda also stalks you periodically like you see with Peiyo. At night if you just pan your camera around you can sometime catch her staring at you from a distance, partially hiding behind something. though I think its mostly restricted to the ARR main cities.
That's terrifying... lol
Not just during Halloween, any ig night there's a small chance (or risk?) she'll haunt one of the first 3 city states. If you're lucky (or unlucky) you'll see her.
My favoritr detail about the ending of the dungeon is that its a rare moment where the player doesn't triumphantly celebrate. You and your party just stand there in silence. As if still processing what you just experienced.

You remember when you accepted the quest, talking to Payo Reyo in Ul Dah? If you pay attention when the camera is showing your character, you can spot Edda in the background. Usually this detail goes unnoticed because there's a chocobo walking in front of her, but, you can see her. I think the cutscene can be seen at the inn. First time I noticed it, I got chills in my spine! It was so creepy, seeing as she was stalking us since the start of the quest.
Remember Edda, whenever you feel like complaining about the healer.

I’m late to the video because of DT, but here’s 2 interesting things that come from this dungeon.
1: The story continues and concludes in Palace of the Dead.
2: You can see Edda’s spirit in Eorzea at certain parts at certain times. There’s a video that lists a few of them.
Now I’m imagining Yda in place of Edda and that makes it worse.
I thought about changing the audio but it made for funnier story telling lol
Fun tidbit I discovered this most recent time I did the quest, when you're talking to Paiyo, if you pay attention to the choco stable behind you, you can see Edda being a creeper by the stable entrance for a bit, then poofs. You can actually see her if you stop at the :39-:50 mark of the vid, and see that she's gone at the :52 mark!
The scariest part of the video was almost-full inventory and fully spiritbonded gear. Get a retainer or prepare to sell/turn in stuff you don't need!

Keep an eye out and occasionally look around city states, especially Gridania, you may just catch Edda lurking in the background...

@@CaffeinatedDad there are 3 parts to the story about the broken party. the first you find doing the main story, the second is deepcroft hard and the third part is in the palace of the dead.
Something you also missed (easy to miss), is that Edda is actually eavesdropping on you during this questline. She's not in focus and it's easy to miss this, but when I realized that, it really gave me the creeps.
The white dots bottom left means materia can be extracted from your gear it's worth doing at low levels because they are used for relic weapons and they sell well if you don't want to make it.😊
Another fun tidbit about Edda and her party is that the quest to unlock Sastasha hard has NPCs outside the dungeon resembling Edda's party (only they're color swapped like they were in a fighting games).
They run into the same situation as Edda's party when they tried completing Sastasha back at lvl 15 only the conjurer/"red Edda" snaps back at the tank (fake Avere) for being reckless instead of being modest.
I had no idea!

I have to echo what others are saying and recommend doing Palace of the Dead up to floor 100 for reasons I don't want to spoil here. But trust me, its worth it 😅.
Also, fun and/or creepy fact, on very rare occasions you can find Edda's ghost in Gridania. If I remember correctly, she can be spotted in the playground area next to the Carpenter's guild.

You’re not done. I am sure galactic will let you know. She still watches you. I will try and be cryptic it is minor. It is one of the more interesting dungeons as you met these characters before while leveling. Seeing their group fall apart.
It's such a great tale so to speak, a side story that does so much more for the build up!
A surprising amount of those 'hard' dungeon versions are pretty interesting story wise, but this one probably takes the cake.
Random Tidbit - you can first meet Edda and her Group outside of Sastasha and at the end/after the ARR MSQ you can meet another Group in the same place, all of which seem to be meant as a worse parody of the original one
Just wait until you do Tam Tara Deepcroft: Extra Long.
Aka Palace of the Dead, which ties into the story of that dungeon. It's basically this game's dungeon diving rougelike mode.
I wish they would do something like this again. Not the exact same, mind, but just taking a random NPC we might not even remember and giving them a whole arc that ends in a way that makes us never forget them.
A cool thing about this scenario that alot of people either forget about or never knew is that finishing this dungeon causes Edda's ghost to pop up periodically in random locations. There's no rhyme or reason to when she'll show up. Its completely random.
This same thing happens when you finish Stormblood's raid series.
My husband has explicit instructions to reanimate me if I ever lose my head. She sounds devoted. What a love story!

Every time you say Edda as Yda I keep putting our scion friend into Tam-Tara. It makes it both more disturbing and hilarious.

This dungeon scared the hell outta me first time, and it gets worse on doing Palace of the Dead.
Well this is what everyone has been telling me lol
Now go do the first deep dungeon. It's also connected to this. Fun and creepy too. In the 2.x series this dungeon came out before deep dungeon.

So Edda's story us so much worse if you catch the details early on. That party is found outside of your first couple of dungeons when you get there and boy is Avare an ass. Like everythng Edda does isnt good enough sort of ass. And with the other two dogpiling their own insults on top of it (as you did pick up on), its no wonder the team ends up in their situatuon.
Theres a couple of early adventerer teams you see outside first dungeons. One of em is Avare and that tragety. One is that squad that you met in Limsa led by D. Bear; they ended up dismembered by giants in copperbell mines. One of them is a grandfather/daughter pair that get off pretty easy after grandfather gets hurt. One of them is a guy telling you about special pink gear that only gets that way when someone dies weilding that item...and hes very proud of his special sword thanks.
So yeah. Fun times to be had in the background. Enjoy palace of the dead when you get to it!

I did enjoy this dungeon, though I missed the torn pages in favor of keeping up with my group. So many dungeons have stuff like that just laying around and no one wants to slow down and read them all. Or at least no one I’ve ever raided with.
These days, you can either go in unsynced (duty finder settings cog -> Unrestricted Party, leave Level Sync off) or in Explorer Mode (same place, lower down) to breeze through lower-level dungeons or just wander through without enemies respectively, but it is a bit unfortunate that there's almost always pressure to hurry up in standard runs.

congrats your now haunted too you can rarely but from time to time spot her ghost following you around in places she wont be named or stand out but she will fit in to the crowed of other players and npc and just hang out.....watching you....forever.
i dont know if that still happens anymore by i have heard shes still there in major city's for time to time.
FF14 is a very fun game... in the way that it scares you out of your pyjamas every once in a while: we have Hildibrand! Yeyyyyy... aaaaaand we have Edda... so, so many Eddas o.O

So I take it you haven't done Palace of the Dead yet.
don't unlock the optional dungeon so when people do roulettes with you they don't risk ending up in them.
Some are really just annoying.
