  • The Cincinnati Bengals will begin training camp in a matter of weeks, and position battles will begin! James Rapien and Andrew Fox Miller play another round of BUY or SELL - debating over who will be the team's starting cornerback (Dax Hill or DJ Turner?), safety (Vonn Bell or Jordan Battle?), and more! Will the Bengals O-Line be a top-10 Unit? Will the Bengals dominate the AFC North? Plus they discuss HBO's Hard Knocks and whether or not it will distract the players. Finally, they discuss the odds of Mike Hilton seeing a contract extension before the 2024 season begins.

    Good question about corner. But one thing im 1000% certain on is we will have much better corner play, regardless of how the position battle goes

    I don’t think you guys understand exactly how good and how dominant Trent Brown can be. If he had played for us last year he would have been the gutsy graded lineman on the team. Last year Trent Brown had a 80.6 run blocking grade. He had a pass blocking grade of 79.2 and an overall grade of 80.2. The highest on our line last year was Ted Karras with a 76. And in 2022 Trent Brown played 1038 snaps. Last year he played 579. So he can play a whole season. He has done it before lots of times. Someone like Terron Armstead has never played an entire season ever. Tyron Smith hasn’t played an entire season since 2016. Trenton has played over 1000 snaps 3 times in his career.

    i agree with Dax being a better fit over DJ for the fact that he’s tougher, thicker etc for the type of football that AFC North has to play,Dax can be a less liability for those games and have good solid safeties over the top that shouldn’t concern you and Dax is fast af also.. just think he does fit the build but believe they’ll both be playing significant snaps at corner positions. i’m ready to see it and what Lou schemes up with the depth and Veteran smarts he has again!!! 🐅

    If they resign Hilton at 30 years old then you wasted either a 1st round pick (Dax) or a 2nd round pick (DJ). With a Hilton extension either Dax or DJ will be on the bench period.

    the bengals will probably start vonn bell in the first weeks of the season, but I hope jordan battle gets as much playing time as possible. I truly believe that he can become a pro-bowl caliber safety and maybe an all-pro caliber safety. I'm just glad that vonn bell is on the team to help the players know Lou's system, but battle is the better/more talented player.

    Despite whatever I or you guys or the coaches think of Jordan Battle the fact remains that he was the highest graded rookie safety since Derwin James in 2018. Graded by PFF. That’s not one persons opinion of Jordan Battle. That is the grading scale that they use to grade ALL players. It’s ALL of PFF’s opinion. Battle was also a top 5 graded safety in the whole NFL last year. He only started 8 games and he made the All Rookie team in the strength of 8 games. Jordan Battle is that dude. He is what will soon be a rare commodity. What do I mean? He is a defensive back trained by Nick Saban. That’s what I mean. And let’s be clear the ONLY REASON Vonn Bell is back is because they got him at league minimum for a year. That’s it. I like Vonn Bell i think he is a good player and I agree with bringing him in. I don’t think they should have let Bell leave in the first place. I’m glad he is here for another year bevause he can train these young guys how to communicate with each other out there. I just hope they haven’t ruined Dax Hill. They need to make Dax the backup nickel because that’s what he does best. DJ Turner is 6 foot 185. Dax Hill is 6’ 192. Not a big differance.

    If I were the Bengals front office I would extend Mike Hilton even if he was 75 and only got one leg left. This guy is the walking talking good feeling of the team. Not just the defense. And if one day he should decide that that one leg might itch too much. Make him a coach on the defense. Mike Hilton from Georgia is NOT to be touched. A true role model, prankster. Smiling good feelings. He‘s the soul of the team. Full stop.

      mike hilton is 30 years old. I'm glad he's staying for this season, but the bengals eventually have to move on from him soon. besides, he has always been slow and dax hill is more athletic. let the younger defenders develop into leaders down the line as they are already talented.

    I don’t think they should resign Hilton. Not because he isn’t good he is great and will command a hell of a lot more than 6 mil a year. He was one of the best CB’s not just nickel CB’s but CB’s period last year. I think they should let him walk after this year and move Dax or DJ to nickel. I mean that’s why you draft CBs in the top 2 rounds isn’t it? To play.

    Dax has the size, speed, and athleticism to be a factor in the backfield. He may be the player that could minimize better TE production.

  • @NathanDean79
    @NathanDean79 7 днів тому +4

    If the Bengals resign Mike Hilton then they might as well trade either Dax or DJ. Because that is giving up on 1 of them. Dax Hill can play the nickel just as good as Hilton can and he is bigger and a far superior athlete. For real though if they bring Hilton back then that mean either Dax or DJ will have the bench to look forward to. If I were them I would ask to be traded. If I’m Jordan Battle after the year I just had and I’m getting benched then I’m asking to be traded. Hilton is already 30 years old too.

    Andrew started to say it and chose his words carefully. I will say it. If Joe Burrow can’t play under center and if the Bengals can’t run the ball downhill every few downs then this team is going to look the same. Playing out of shotgun and taking sacks and poor run game, blaming the line for what is really a bad scheme because Zac caters to Joe.

      You are right on the coaches catering to QBs. Brady was the exception and Peyton was the epitome. I think Joe is very intelligent and a winner too. @BoW-we9qf That's fear number 2 for me. Joe staying healthy is number 1. I've been watching the 2019 LSU season highlights, I forgot how mobile he was, and quite fast.

      @@marktaylor3726 The first time I ever saw Joe play was when he played for LSU! The year LSU won the Championship, Joe Burrow was a phenomenon! There's no other way to put it! I couldn't wait for the next Saturday's game. That LSU season I shall never forget! Every weekend I was jumping up and down on my couch cheering for Joe Burrow. It was one of those extroadinary sports experiences you just never forget! Joe Burrow's play was literally something out of another demension! Think it's interesting to note, that the model used at LSU is the one now employed by the Bengals. LSU had the dynamic trio, Burrow QB, Chase WR and Jefferson WR . Today in Cinci the dynamic trio is Joe QB, Ja'Marr WR, and Tee WR. I say: Don't mess with a winning formula!

  • @no2_j
    @no2_j 6 днів тому

    James, why are you so negative on Jordan Battle while most others are fairly high on him. It takes more than athleticism to play this game. And Battle is a great example of that. He’s not the athlete Dax is, yet he seemed to make less mistakes as a 3rd round rookie than Hill did as a first round talent from the previous year. Battle was arguably the most impressive rookie from the 2023 draft class.
    I don’t hate Dax and don’t want to give up on him. I think it’s been well documented that the Bengals have mismanaged his development. But I think this is one of those things where you’re so stuck on an opinion/pick that you’re blinding yourself to the possibility to other options. I get thinking he could win the corner job, but I think he’s clearly lost the safety job and Battle will be the 3rd safety behind Bell/Stone. And I do think he will play some significant snaps. Please get off the Battle hate train.

    • @BengalsTalk
      @BengalsTalk  6 днів тому

You said the 3rd DB off the bench. Kind of minor but also important distinction. But that’s what compelled my original post. Sorry.
