This is 10× bigger than bringing Game Pass to PlayStation or Nintendo. Amazon is Microsoft's biggest competition in Cloud. So the fact they agreed to do this is very significant.
You'd think they'd not want anything to do with one another for the reason you gave, but your right the fact they agreed to do this is indeed very significant.

This truly an incredible reach for MS and Xbox. Casual players looking to play without a console commitment really win here. The revenue for MS will be curious to see; not sure the % split. Great way to get our hobby in front of more people.

@@_sparrowhawk You have to have a GP subscription to use the service of course. However, they don't have to invest in a PC or a Console. This is likely a good option for families with multiple gamers or other reasons to avoid the hardware. Big W for MS.

I think the expansion of X-Cloud with fire sticks and fire TVs is a great move. Also as someone who has been playing games via cloud on My Samsung QN90B since I upgraded my router back in March, I can say it's been a great experience and I'm impressed with how the technology works.
Lastly for the fanboys who keep saying Xbox is dead and thinks that Sony arent going to follow suit, they should take note that playstation is currently working in the background to build their cloud gaming infrastructure. After all its the way the industry is heading.

Microsoft is shifting their focus to all forms of media to bring their brand to customers to evolve with the changing times.
Sony is still stuck with the old console idea. Yeah ... there will always be people that prefer to play on consoles. But the majority of people are untapped whether it is because they can't afford the hardware. Or if they are just ignorant of how the video game market works. Now give them a controller and a library... they may say, "Gamepass is free for a month? Let me see if I like this" ... and bam ... hooked
Literally the only reason why Microsoft is doing this is because of the fact that they can’t push their consoles to the same level as Sony and Nintendo. If the Xbox one were as successful as the ps4 and the switch it would’ve been a different story.
Or maybe those people just don't want to play games and what MS will find out is that there isn't some untapped market and their sub numbers will continue to stall. Kind of like how every report is showing that people are tired of sub services and sub service have stalled across every industry.

Single player games are ok but it's not great for cod mp etc. Playstation streams theirs at upto 4k atm so don't get why Microsoft doesn't. I got an Amazon Kindle Fire. Its technically a tablet, but I use it to read. I'm interested in a pseudo handheld with some sort of Xbox app. Hoping its compatible.
One of the lesser cloud services being available as a subscription on an item that mostly non-gamers will buy to do non-gaming things, who will then need to add another subscription (at Ultimate pricing) to their monthly costs… Really don’t think this is going to explode in some ways people are expecting. I just hope they eventually let you play your library of games on more than just xbox. My dad got a new laptop recently and gave me his "Old one" (Which is only a few years old) and now that I finally have a pc to play games, I'd love to be able to use my xbox library on there and not have to rebuy dozens of games

This was the strategy I thought Xbox was going for when they said you can play Xbox anywhere on any device. I’d say it’s a better solution than putting games on PlayStation or switch and gamers wondering why they should even buy an Xbox console.

I have a series S and a PC handheld the Legion Go. I was also a Stadia user. I loved Stadia and used to use it all the time (this was way before I had a handheld). Honestly if this was available at the same time as the Series S and X came out I would not have purchased the S. I would just do my Xbox gaming on something like this. I do have to say that Stadia worked ALOT better than Xcloud even now. Microsoft needs to up their game on quality immediately. I need less compression; I need a controller that lowers latency by connecting via Wi-Fi not Bluetooth. I need to see hardware upgrades every few years. I want to see that this becomes a priority to Microsoft and not just a value add.
The stuff to make Xcloud really amazing. Instead of just a Gamepass device also let us digitize our discs via a small fee to use in the cloud. And also let us buy other publishers games to use in the cloud. Basically Xcloud becomes a Console in the cloud. Right now its more Netflix I want more Amazon which you have Prime aka Gamepass and you have digital purchases the console part of it.

Need games they now own the studios to, to be Xbox Play Anywhere. This would break even more barriers and you would also have a library of Xbox owned studio games that you bought digitally on the console available on PC to be downloaded and played.
Very smart move from Microsoft. It's like xbox series x|s will become a premium selection for hardcore gamers that rather download the games on the console rather than stream them
Now this would be of benefit ONLY if that Game Pass app becomes natively functional in those many countries in which it is currently unavailable. Otherwise, what's the point of those 200+ million FireTV users.

You can always spot a PlayStation fanboy by how quickly they point out console sales as if it’s the only measure of success.
To be fair it is. When you look at revenue, last year Sony made 26.7 Billion. Xbox made 15.3 Billion. Nintendo made 12.4 Billion. And no I'm not a fanboy as I have all consoles. Just keeping it real.

A reality Sony is aware of considering how they’re doing more single player PC releases and starting day and date PC releases for live service titles. All the money is in software.
@@damnyoukira I wouldn't say all the money is in software. Sony started making a profit on PS5 consoles a year after launch. Microsoft said they are losing 100 to 150 dollars per console sold. They also make a lot of money on controllers, memory and other accessories.

I'm curious how much that will increase subscription numbers honestly, I personally don't think it'll help that much.. there's a large volume of people with those fire sticks with internet too slow for it to be feasible. Regardless, that 250 million is firesticks in general I assume, not the 2023 modelor newer that can use it
This tells me MS needed to do this because they are about to make another big purchase. Regulators focused on MS's dominance in cloud during the ABK battle. This is a huge pre-active move to lower the threat level. I expect MS to buy Valve, Sega or Take Two by Jan 2025.
Wish Microsoft would release an ultra wide old tv just so we could the option to have the os controls available or ultra wide gaming or better dual screen games even if player 2 has to cloud stream. I hope we see Microsoft,Sony,Amazon,Nvidia and other companies continue to expand the devices their cloud gaming services can run on. Cloud gaming IMO is another pillar along side PC,console,& mobile devices. It’s just another way to play.
The reason Sony doesn't reaching out to a larger player base, outside of their console the way MS does, is bc of the 2 companies' asymmetrical position in the market. 3rd party publishers tends to gravitate towards the PS's larger user base, and from which generates the royalties paid to Sony. That is PS's primary source of revenue, 1st party IPs exist mainly to draw more users for that end goal/
PS publishes their 1st party IPs on PC/Switch mostly to offset the out of control budget of those IPs (eg. SpiderMan2, $300mil+ dev budget). And they stagger these releases by 2 years to minimize the negative effects this action may have on the main purpose of the PS console stated above.
I can't see it making much difference. Why? Because Xbox Games Pass has been on Samsung TVs for years now and it's done nothing to boost subs. Samsung sell millions of TVs worldwide. And can you remember the runour that Xbox was going to ad adds to games? I can see Amazon adds in games. Like Fallout adds across the TV show and games.
