Marseilles is where Zarafa’s, the young African giraffe, arrived in Europe in 1826 and preceded to walk the long journey to Paris to be presented to the King of France Charles X. To this day, there are still roads throughout France named after her. She survived 17 years and was the toast of Paris, as was her handler.
Eeeeeeeh!!!!!! I love that you filmed footage and showed us around. Gorgeous! The old fort is pretty. What a great bookish travel vlog. Great music and everything. Thanks for reading the tidbits about the Count and it’s impact on the prison. “That’s creepy.” Ha! 😊
Nice to see you in Marseille! It's really nice to see the footage! I've not been in Marseille or Paris much, my family and I prefer the smaller villages rather than big cities usually. Oh wow the mirror thing had me so confused at first haha. Yay for the Chateau! Yum icecream. I loved seeing the boat trip over the sea. Really nice to see the Chateau as well!!
Very much so! I would imagine there are lower levels that we couldn’t go to in it. I can’t believe people visited it when there were still prisoners there! 😳
Hi Sandy, I'm so happy you're living my dream and traveling back to France. I made it as far as Avignon and maybe next time I'll go all the way south. I'm going to stop and watch all your videos today and wish you a safe trip home. All my love sent your way. Au revior
Cool! What a great trip. It's so great to be able to tour old structures like this. In Rome I went into an old fort/castle and it was so fun. Marseille looks beautiful!
Hi! Nice video ❤ i’m coming to marseille soon and i’m wondering how do i find the ticket shop for the ferry in the port? And did you buy your ticket to the château there or online? Thanks
Hi Ms Reads, can you visit chateau d'if with your 1year old child? I'll be in Montpellier in May and want to visit as I am alsona die hard Alexandre Dumas fan!

That is amazing!! The had a story about a rhinoceros at chateau dif. It was left on the island when the ship carrying it ran into trouble 🤣
Very cool!!! It's a beautiful place!
Marseille was amazing. Very lucky to have visited!
Very cool trip! I felt claustrophobic just watching you walk through the building. I can’t imagine being locked up in one of those cells. *shivers*
Right? I can’t believe that they let visitors come through when there were prisoners there!!
Thank you for taking us with you on your wonderful trip!
😍😍😍

I really want and don’t want to see what was behind the locked door!

Thank you! It was a long overdue trip. We visited family that we hadn’t seen in 3 years. So nice!
So so cool!! Thanks for taking us along. I’d love to go and see château d’if myself one day 🥰
Thank you! Marseille is a pretty interesting city! Would recommend a visit!
Wow, the chateau is so haunting and awesome! It's like gothic combined with medieval!
Very much so! I would imagine there are lower levels that we couldn’t go to in it. I can’t believe people visited it when there were still prisoners there! 😳
Thanks for showing us around! I have to read The Count of Monte Cristo one day - everyone loves it!
So many people haven’t read it. It is quite the brick of a book.
@@MsReadsAlot yeah - I should probably finish War and Peace first! 😂
Hah love the music pairing with the ride. What a cool experience!
It was a lot of fun! Definitely worth it!
That mirror ceiling reminds me of being at the Bean here in Chicago! Oh God, that water is BEAUTIFUL!!! Oh how I long to visit the coast. Any coast!!
The beach was incredible. We would have swam if we had the gear and if it wasn’t so windy. I really wanted to go kayaking but it just didn’t happen 😕

Very cool video, Sandy! I have never been there (and I also still need to read the book!), but what a beautiful day in France. 🇫🇷
We had some amazing weather. A little rain on a couple of days but overall it was wonderful!
The Chateau d'If is amazing. I know it was a prison, but it looked stunning:
I can’t believe they let visitors go there while there were prisoners 😳😳😳 it was the one item I really wanted to do in marseille!

It was really cool. We walked between 5 and 8 miles every day!
I just read a mystery set near Marseille! Halfway between Aix and Marseille, supposedly. :)
What book was it?? I love it!
@@MsReadsAlot Vanishing Museum on the Rue Mistral--wasn't really my bag, but charming enough.
Hi! Nice video ❤ i’m coming to marseille soon and i’m wondering how do i find the ticket shop for the ferry in the port? And did you buy your ticket to the château there or online? Thanks
There is a kiosk at the marina. It is huge and very easy to find. They have ferries almost every hour. Enjoy Marseille! It is a lovely city
Thank you for sharing your wonderful trip videos. Can I ask something, How fast is best lavender farm from Marseille ? Thanks
I am not sure! We didn't make it out to see any of the lavender farms

I don’t remember any age restrictions. I would recommend some good walking shoes. It is pretty uneven in places
Camera work made me dizzy.
