Loved the book but i would need a family tree to follow through story!

I just realized I hadn't heard from you in a while, and it's now October, so I came by looking for your annual camping vlog :) Sounds like a LOT going on for you! Hope the new job is going well. And how exciting that your son got married - Congratulations! I'm sure you were ready for some relaxation by your camping trip in August. I've never read Goethe. IT is super creepy! Your confusion is understandable - King says he doesn't plan or plot his books ahead of time, so he can sometimes meander! And he does like to include Easter eggs from other books for fans :) I enjoy Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, but I tried one of her other novels once and - like you said - there was just nothing to it. I've heard about The Expanse TV show. The Women was a stunning novel. I may have gotten more immersed in it than you because I listened to it on audio. Sounds like some great reading for you!

Hi Sandy! Taking a break looks good on you. I'm reading Rachel Kushner's Creation Lake now. I'm about 1/2 way through and hoping it gets more enthralling very soon. I'm with you on the Song of Achilles- was blaming my mood, but maybe not. The Expanse Series sounds like what I need right now - page turner.

I didn't connect the guy in the car with Christine, but that would make sense. I'm reading all of King's books in publication order starting next year, so I'll keep this in mind when I get to It again.

Good to see you back and it is totally understandable why you have been away from booktube. I am quite sure I know what scene in IT you are referring to. I read the book as a college sophomore in the mid-eighties and only one scene has stuck with me. A sex scene that even at that time I was confused and disgusted was even there. I read Just Mercy a couple of years ago and it was so impactful. The tragedy of lives spent wrongly in prison or long sentences for children who had little hope of getting out. Bryan Stephenson's team are saving the lives of so many people treated unfairly.

Relatable content! 😅 I'm still reading luckily, but in a similar brain space. When you described getting to the end of the day and just needing t shut off, yep yep yep! What an overwhelming year you've had, I hope your camping trip is a nice break and space for the brains to revive.

If you only can read a few books in a month, I’m glad Just Mercy was one of them! It is truly phenomenal! I have The Good Soldier Svejk on my iPad to read. I hope you talk more about it as you read it.

Wow, how exciting - congratulations on your son's wedding! My older son's two best friends are getting married this year, so wedding season has begun! We went to one in June and the other is in September - so fun to see these kids we watched grow up move onto another stage of life. I haven't yet read Just Mercy, but I listened to The Sun Does Shine, a memoir by one of the men Bryan helped to release, after 20 years on death row. Horrifying, stunning, and inspiring story. It was my #1 nonfiction read last year. I've heard a lot about The Flame Throwers but haven't read it yet. I haven't read any Muriel Spark yet. Fabio on the cover! ha ha That's great. Classic. We had to cancel our 2-week vacation this summer when I got COVID last month, so I can't wait to live vicariously through your annual camping trip! I'm starting to feel better, so hopefully, we will get out for a few days of camping this month. Enjoy your books and your trip!

So good to see your face! I love that you are taking the nostalgia read camping and the thought of you sitting with a cocktail and the book on the beach makes me smile! Brain candy or re-reading is all I can manage in a slump usually. But lately I just lean into not reading and watching trash! 😂😂

I haven't been in a reading slump in a while. I usually choose my next book when I'm about 3/4 through my current book, so I always have one going. I'm definitely a mood reader. I don't participate in challenges or monthly themes, which I think helps keep the slumps away. I've tried before, I found it limiting.

When I’m slumpy I go for light reads. I can always tell when I’m hitting a slump when I start DNF-ing every book I pick up. That happened earlier in the spring/summer. So I have been picking up romance books and book club books (think Read with Jenna). They are light and somewhat fun without requiring much from you. Gradually I’ve started to feel drawn to meatier books so I know I’m coming out of my slump.

Congrats to your son! I totally understand about life taking over! I also loved Just Mercy. Very inspiring.

I am reading a book from my teens for Garbaugust too, Scruples, by Judith Krantz, I haven't read it for years. The last time I was in a slump I did a deep dive into mystery author from Golden Age that I had not read before. And I watched old movies that I thought I had seen but hadn't. It helped.

It is great to see you again! Life sometimes takes up all of our energy. Don’t feel bad about your reading slump. I loved Just Mercy, it is on my All Time Favorite shelf in my library. YourTBR looks good but just don’t worry about DNF ing any books. Have fun camping!

Great to see you, and one book is fine, it’s one more than you ever read before. David Sedaris is my slump breaker. If the essays are to long try the diary entries, most are only a paragraph or two, after a while your reading whole pages! I know more books are the least of you interests at the moment, but as a follow up to Mercy, you might try True Notebooks by Mark Salzman about his writing program for super violent juvenile housed in very strict lockdown. It’s amazing, and Salzman wrapped it up with wanting children, even thought he thought he didn’t despite the situation swaying him otherwise.
