I never had a landlord that would even let me paint. So glad I'm fortunate enough to have bought my own house. I've gone a little design crazy, my bathroom has a black ceiling and my dining room is dark mallard green. So lovely to be out of the rented white box look. ❤️
I think her uncle owns the rental, she’s able to more than most of us. Live in a rental and can’t do much as well in my space. Would love a home of my own.
A tip for silicone: you can use water + liquid soap mixed in a dish/cup - dip your fingers in it before you go over the silicone with your hand. It makes the silicone a little bit more managable. There is also a tool that can be used to get it to perfect shape - usually hardware stores sell it. Using gloves is always a must for me - it gets under my fingernails and it drives me insane :D
Popsicle sticks are the perfect tool for finishing silicone! The magnum ones!
Yes! Soap always works! And another tip would be to use transparent silicone around the countertops and sink, looks less like a bathroom! Great job!
I love the contrast between the bathroom renovation taking 2 years versus the kitchen taking 24 hours lol.
Great job Hermione, I'm confused I thought you were living at your Nan's flat so when you said you were renting I got confused. I like how nice the kitchen looks. Go for it if you want to paint the cabinets and you want to do something about the counter tops. I'm sure whatever you come up with it will be lovely. I love how no matter what you always have plants it gives life to the rooms. I wish we had wide windowsills in the states to put plants on.

I believe this is her nan's flat in London that she is renting. So perhaps slightly more lee-way than most london landlords? I've been quite lucky with Manchester landlords in the past in terms of putting up temp type things

Such a lovely and simple renovation! Love everything you did. I think adding legs to the cubby storage will be great. Maybe extend the fake tiles behind it as well so it draws your eye down the space and makes it feel longer and more cohesive? If you can paint the cabinets i definitely would!! A white would make the space feel so fresh but a pop of color would also be lovely. You could do a nice two tone and do that one upper cabinet white to open the space and do the bottom cabinets a color. Im sure whatever you do will be gorgeous. ♡
i thought the apartment was your grandmothers...? turned out very pretty. i agree about the cube storage legs will make it more functional giving a lot more counter space if and when you do that i would put tiles behind it to carry them on from the sink.

Your grandmother is so blessed having you be the one renting her flat. The place is looking so modern and fresh. For me, I wouldn't have the chairs in the kitchen. There is so little space there, I think the bench behind the table would be enough to sit and have a cup of coffee. I always love when you post a video. I really like the contrast of the white and the wood cabinets and butcher block. I see what you mean about the work tops but what you did already really lightened it up a lot. I think it looks beautiful. I think it will come together when you put the legs on the shelf on the end of the counter. A larger rug with a bold pattern in grey and white and a bit more art on the walls, maybe a mirror over the sink? Hanging plants in the window.

I think a light wood style of contact paper for the stainless steel open shelves would be so pretty! As well as the peel and stick tiles going all the way under them. None the less, great job!

I love the updates but I would ask Nan if you can paint the cupboard doors white or cover them in vinyl to tie everything together ❤
Not renting but we're on a strict budget right now so can't do major renos to our apartment. But the things we are doing that are affordable and still impactful are: changing out all our outdated ceiling lights, painting smaller areas like the kitchen, changing out knobs/handles/pulls and when we have a bit more money to spend I'd like to cover our lino floors in the kitchen and bathroom with some cute peel and stick until we can actually tile!

When you revealed the space the color of the cabinetts stood out to me, too. So I would be really interested to see what you're doing with them in a part two!

How about adding legs to cube unit to bring it up to counter height. It might extend the work surface and make the look unified.

What a difference! Freshening up the paint & using the stick tiles really made it less hectic on the eye. One thing I learned to do in small spaces is to use vertical space. Noticed your fruit bowl on the counter. They make hanging baskets or fruit hammocks that can hang from your shelves. Instead of storing things in what little counter space you have to food prep, use vertical space! :)

Looks fab. It’s so nice to see that your makeovers are truly renter friendly. I’ve been on some other channels where they say their designs are budget and renter friendly, but they’re really not. Your subtle changes are lovely, really you but don’t break the bank.

I live rent free in my house which is owned by my mom. She wants me to get rid of the old pantry to make more space but I use it. Mom talks about the tiles being old fashioned but they have fruits on them so don't mind them too much because there is an odd fruity one here and there. I have a visual impairment so all the walls barring the kitchen are painted in Natural Calico and the kitchen is Vanilla Ice Cream which has a touch of yellow in it which makes it feel warm yet bright (there was horrible sticky orange flocked wallpaper in there before). I would like to do something with the kitchen because I hate the cabinets. Thanks for the tip about silicon because I have realised that there isnt any round my sink.
Love all the choices here ! One simple nice one could also be to change those open metal shelving. Could you not get some wood cut to the same size, and slide it in the metal brackets? and paint the brackets black too?

Looks so much better,the only thing I'd do is either paint or cover the orange/yellow wooden cabinet doors with a walnut or black paint/sticky covering.

This is the first time I’ve seen peel and stick wall tiles look easy to install! When you add legs to your cube unit, I think it would look nice to extend the backsplash tile.

You can actually relax with your coffee in the window area now.....it made me feel anxious before!

to the right of the sink i'd probably add a hanging plant though, as the light is perfect.
Nice job looks great. Just a suggestion make life easier when you're painting or putting on faux tile, get a screwdriver and remove the outlet cover and paint closer in then replace the cover

The cabinets stood out to me too! Maybe cuz it’s warm against the steel shelves. If you’re hoping to replace them, I hope there’s enough storage m to get rid of the cube storage - it blocks the seating space and closes in the room

Great change! As always, Hermione, your style is so soft and soothing somehow. And, yes, as you were showing the new result I also thought of the cabinets that they somehow appear now a bit old-fashioned and may benefit from some modernising.

The cabinets 100% need a lift. Maybe white or a fun light color. Maybe you can experiment with contact paper to keep with the theme of renter friendly.
