- Missa in A major, BWV 234. “Lutheran Mass”. Also, known as the Gloria Mass.
I. Kyrie
At the intro, the original manuscript of the Missa Brevis is displayed. The Kyrie is performed with the score (each half-page of the manuscript).
Missa in A major, BWV 234, “Lutheran Mass” is scored for flute, strings, SATB, and basso continuo, Bach parodied music from at least four earlier cantatas.
On first hearing, you might think this is a fugue.
The Christe eleison is a beautiful and striking section of this mass which could be described as an ethereal, four-part “choral recitative” in a cycle of fifths down, but the pitch range is up. The theme begins in the bass, to the tenor, alto, and soprano, concluding with the flute playing a fifth entrance of the theme in the cycle.
Listen to the Kyrie. The trackers make it easy to follow.
Awesome to read the manuscript , "BACH is the greatest miracle of the music "
