- Remember how the first Aquaman came out and was a colossal success? It really seemed like everything was finally on track for the character after years of jokes and abuse. Then tragedy…or well…insanity struck. The sequel was plagued with reshoots, scheduling conflicts, and an ever-changing landscape of the DCEU. I’ve kinda left my “film bro” ego behind and found myself thinking this movie was kinda fun.
Honestly yeah. Didn't think it was top tier but it was a fun time

The first film was better, but this film was WAY better than 90% of all the recent comic book adaptation films that have come out over the past decade.
The first film was about 30 minutes too long,for me. I remember watching it in the cinema when it first debutted and thinking-I can't wait for this movie to end. LOL.

James Wan did the best he could with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The fight where Aquaman and his brother found the robot octopus in the end looked good.
At least he does try his best making an enjoyable movie. Unlike Sony with Madame Web
I didn’t think this movie was that bad. I thought it was alright. I got more enjoyment and fun from this movie than The Flash.
She also made accusations that Momoa would steal her books and rip them on the set of the first one.
It actually wasn’t awful and was a perfect sequel to the 1st one. It was slightly paint by numbers.
I knew how bad this movie was gonna be when the official title was announced

Randall Park came into my bar after his film premiered at Tribeca and rolled up with like 30 ppl (guys, if you go ANYWHERE w more than 6ppl and EXPECT to be seated, call ahead…just sayin) and I was checking IDs one of his entourage was starting to Karen out about getting ids checked and he walked straight up, I was embarrassed cause I recognized him, and he busted his driver’s license out and shook my hand. Everyone else followed suit. It was very respectful and much appreciated.

Just personally, I'm not sure _it does_ make sense to give Momoa a shot at being more involved with the sequel simply because his image revamped the character. That's something, no argument, but is it indicative of _writing_ ability?
For me, Christian Bale made Batman interesting again as a film character, but I don't believe that should have resulted in him being bumped up to the writing staff.
IF Momoa had pitched an idea that was cool and stood up on its own merit, that would be one thing. That's fine. I'm just not sure I agree that Momoa's success as a performer made it self-evident that he'd also be successful as a writer. I just personally don't see the natural correlation there.
For what it's worth, I haven't seen either of the "Aquaman" films so I can't speak to their quality. I actually found Momoa's performance in the "Justice League" film to be one note and kind of boring. I know I'm in the minority on this.

one thing i find funny was that Wanter Bros had three movies where a supporting character from the first movie was killed off screen. Aquaman, The Nun 2, and The Meg 2

This wasn’t even a bad movie TBH. Just an underwhelming ending to a universe. But I mean, no kind of proper finale with the Justice League was setup prior and people stopped caring for the universe long ago, so what was there really to do?

@jimbowlan5804 IMO, you are dramatically over rating Amber's effect on this film's mediocre results.
It was fun for what it was...last day at school hijinks. Hurd is barely in it and easily forgettable...thankfully. DCEU never captured what MCU pulled off. The sad thing, imo, is that we lose Gal Godot as Wonder Woman. She played a great Wonder Woman.
Well blame affleck for getting out of the flash it pissed zazlov off so he told Gunn reboot the whole thing

Well, the film is underrated. It’s a shame that WB shoved the DCEU under the bus last year if it wasn’t for the poor box office of the last 4 movies. I love Shazam 2, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman 2. They end the franchise not with a bang, but a sore whimper. That’s what you get for failing to create a shared universe that nobody understands. Oh, and Aquaman 2 performed better than the last 3 movies that underperformed. So let’s say that Aquaman 2 is still a success for WB.
I'm sorry but this is hyperbolic. I literally watched Aquaman 1 and 2 back to back and they're mostly on the same level in quality. So it bothers me how people seemingly claim to really enjoy or even love that first movie but then they trash the sequel to such a significant degree when the differences in quality between the two as minimal. So, to me, this says more about how the fanbase/audiences have changed so much in the 5 years between the two movies.
It's no different to how people like to highly and deeply criticize Marvel movies in 2022-2023 when comparable-quality movies in 2017-2018 received nowhere near as much hate.

If any Batman was to show up I think Val Kilmer should’ve showed up just to keep everyone on their toes.

I quite liked it. Not as much as the first one but I had a pretty good time with it. Nothing amazing but a solidly entertaining sequel.

Amber needed to be removed from the movie completely. That’s why hardly anyone went to see it.
I hope Wan goes back to horror - that's where his skill resides.
Check out his first draft for his adaptation of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I can’t believe we almost got that instead of a monstrosity of reboots.

This is not the end of the DCEU, because James Gunn DCU is the DCEU which it will not last and will ultimately restore the Snyderverse.

Agree with almost everything you said. But it felt like a stretch to say the box office was "still considered a loss for Warners". Again, this movie was awful, but a box office of $434.3 million is a success. Very little marketing for a big movie like this. And yes, the first film brought in over a billion, but that was 5 years ago. Box office has radically changed since then for DC films.
I agree the cockroach scene is goofy alright, but it's getting way too much unnecessary hate. What were people expecting?? A continuation scene?... this was the very last movie in the DCEU and it wasn't even supposed to be, I think it was good to have a laugh for a final send-off.
Sorry to disagree and I know this is an unpopular opinion but I actually enjoyed it I thought it was a fun light hearted high seas adventure story and a nice epilogue to the old dceu akin to how spiderman far from home acted as a fun after story tie up to marvels infinity saga my philosophy in regards to film criticism is if you had fun watching it and enjoyed it then it was a good experience don't go by rotten tomatoes scores make up your own opinion
I enjoyed this film, at least it wasnt Morbious, Quantunmania, The Marvels or Eternals. Aquaman got peed on quite a bit though.

Personally, not a fan of the 1st Aquaman movie. It was fairly dull. I don't think the wisecracking worked and the underwater stuff just looks terrible even if there were practical sets. The 2nd one fell into the trap that so many superhero and franchise movies fall into--saddling the hero with a family. Who cares? When will producers realize that no one wants to see an action hero and their spouse and kid in tow. What's next Batman filing his taxes!

The movie was a mess but there some highlights. A couple of fight scenes were well done but overall it was a disappointment.

Sorry but most of the DCEU movies are dreadful. Too dark, poor CGI, poor acting, stories seem to have way too much going on. I do not care about the Marvel/DC who is better horsebleep. DCEU movies are hard to watch all the way through ( though I did like the last Suicide Squad and love Peacemaker)

Aquaman didn’t feel like Aquaman. He’s supposed to look like a surfer not a 6’5 biker. Mera should have been recasted for someone that looks like a girl that goes to the beach who happens to be a princess, not like someone who can ruin you.
