It's never a matter if you'll have issues it's a matter of how you handle it when you do have issues. It shows how good you are at your job. Sometimes it's a greater rush when things are messed up and you still make it happen. Enjoyed the video.
That patch job was Baaaaaaaad. As my mentor told me, Festival mixing is just combat audio. It's fighting everything every step of the way. But after the battle, it can be super rewarding. Nice work. Your attitude during the adversity is an indicator of your character. Seems like you're a mature guy.
Right! We gave them an input list, everything was labeled on our end, we spoke multiple times about it pre-show, and there were like half a dozen techs on stage to get the job done and somehow 30 minutes wasn't enough 🙃
Thank you! It ended up working out. I'm just glad the main band instruments and vocals were all in the right spots. The mix came together quickly as well!
DCA stands for Digitally Controlled Amplifier. It basically is a way to turn up multiple faders at the same time while still keeping their levels relative to each other. So you can assign all of your drums to a DCA and then if you move the DCA fader, it will turn all of those faders up or down equally regardless of where they are. From what I understand, the terminology for it in the analog world is "VCA (voltage controlled amplifier)" I think.

Stressful but you pulled it off like a pro does. The key was you said in your opening: I'm confident in my skills.

Richie is a cool dude. A lot of FOH guys are not as cool as him.
Richie was cool! Very helpful with the digico, just unfortunate that the people on stage got things mixed up. Oh well!
What are DCA's?
