  • This video covers the Presonus Studio Live Series III rack mixer family and it's Phones Monitoring capabilities. Specifically, I explain how I set up and use my wireless in-ear monitor system to solo channels and other IEM mixes for my band to ensure they are getting the mix I think I'm sending them.
    If you have any further questions, I'd love to answer them in the comments!

    As a 32R user, this was a gem. Thanks!

      Although very niche, I hoped it could help a few people! 😄

    I’ve been mixing IEM on my 32R for about a year and just figured this out myself after a gig. The guitarist said everything sounds thin. I had no idea how hear what he was hearing. I used the recording I made of the show to figure out how to monitor what the band was hearing. Now 3 weeks later I happened upon your video and you tied it all together with using the pre2 setting in the mix section. Now I can hear what the band hears and give them a better mix. Thank you!!!

      Using the pre2 setting doesn't change what you hear when you solo. It just changes the audio tap point that is sent from each channel to a particular bus.
      Pre2 is good if your console is only for monitors, because you can give a produced sound for each channel and send that to the mix busses.
      If you use the console for both MON and FOH, then using Pre2 is a bit dangerous and you have to be aware of what it means :)

    It’s like the video was made for me 😂. This was super helpful, thank you! In my case I’d also need the click, so I think I may use a matrix mix so I can hear exactly what foh hears + click and also be able to solo channels for the band’s mixes.

    Thanks. I have found the headphone settings a bit confusing. You cleared it up for me! I use sE V7s as well!

    Thank you! Finally someone shows us the details in Universal Control on the 32r for the sound support. Btw, I thought changing the pre1 to pre2 in the Aux mix would track changes I made in the main FOH mix.

      Glad it was helpful! And yes, on Pre2 if you make Gate/EQ/comp changes, those changes effect both FOH and the aux mix. Pre1 keeps the aux mix "dry" and changes only effect FOH. You'd have to ring out your monitors with the GEQ and EQ on the aux mix master fader itself.

    Thanks for the video. I would like to ask you how I can configure my presonus studiolive 32R to listen my drum with the tracks of the guitars, bass, piano etc.... while i recording on monitors in my DAW (e.g. StudioOne in my case). I don't know how to adjust the WDM. Thank you very much in advance

      I was doing this once! When the 32r is plugged into USB to your computer with the DAW, the main L/R comes down channels 33/34 or 35/36 orrrr one of the later channels on the mixer. I cant remember which ones. If you put those faders up on the main mix (or make sure to put them all in pre1 or 2 and not post) and then pull them up in whatever monitor mix you need you'll be set! Let me know if this helps.

    ok i have a 16r and maybe it doesn't work on this. i configure cr and main in the headphone settings but when i switch to solo in like aux 1 it goes silent. if i go back into settings it has switched to cr and solo. if i use the dropdown menu and choose mix 1 then aux 1 comes out the headphones like i want. ami doing something wrong or is the 16r different. also the aux channels only have pre1

    Can your EQ, compressor and other fx be not affected by whatever you do in the main mix. Like each link auxes can be mix the way I want per channel?

    • @redshedrecords
      @redshedrecords  3 місяці тому

      Short answer, no. You can either have the aux mix channel processing be the same as the main mix (pre2), or dry (pre1). If you want 2 mixes, you need another mixer, like a Studiolive 32 console or one of the other models. Then you'll have 2 mixers' worth of channel processing when one of the two mixers are in Monitor Mixer mode ( stagebox mode shares processing as well). Hope this helps!

      The studiolive allows for dual patching of input sources. For instance, if I wanted to process a lead singers vocal independently from the what’s going through the pa, I will use 2 channels both patched to receive input from the vocal mics source. This creates 2 identical channels, one can be sent to the PA and the other can be sent to the singers monitor mix. The 2nd channel going to the monitor mix can be eq, compressed, independently from the 1st channel going to the PA. Downside is you’re taking up another channel but, if you’re not capped on your inputs, it works amazingly

    hey there, what you did in your in ear monitor mix will also affect the main mix going to the pa right?

    • @redshedrecords
      @redshedrecords  Місяць тому

      As far as Gain, EQ and Compression, yes. In either of the Pre modes you will still have separate fader control for IEM and PA.

      Not if you choose "pre1".

    I have a 32r and I don’t use the head-hone out to a headphone amp but tell me if I’m doing this right in my setup! I use the stereo l&r from my Shure 900 ie reciever and plug that into Aux 1 and 2 in the back of the 32r and link them in UC Surface. So what your saying is should I use Pre 2 to get the Eq and Compression settings to my in ears that are also going to the Main mix?

    • @redshedrecords
      @redshedrecords  7 місяців тому

      That's correct! That's how my band does it so they can hear a more "mixed" monitor mix some nice EQ and compression on the vocals and other instruments.

      If you wanna monitor signals (use the solo button to isolate what you hear) then you should use the headphones output instead. Unless you can assign the control room signal on other physical outputs but i'm not sure that is possible on these Presonus rack mixers (NB : it is possible on Behringer Midas XM32 mixers).
