Jimmy. Had. All. Them. Hitt. Back. In. The. 70s. And. I'm. Just. Started. To. Listen. To. Them. In. 2023. Where. They. Were at Huh!. They. Are. Great. To. Jam with. Today yes.
Another funky jam my sister Wanda Hill (Rip sis) turned me on to..this had to the sharpest album covers for all time.. Jimmy Castor Bunch was some cold funky brothers
love this song as a kid still do bought this single with my paper route money it was one of those songs that was way before its time JAM on in heaven R.I.P. E-Man
i forgot all about this....my brothers and cousins who are 10 years older than me played all of the 60's &70's music. i was born at the right time. i got to hear theirs plus my music for my generation and forward....thanks for the reminder......
I had the album this song was on, but I was need cash, so it got sold with a bunch of other good wax. Finally, it's on line and I can listen to again! When I first heard this, I was a white kid, in the 6th grade, living in a suburban area of a metro city. There were no black kids at my school then, and this on girl picked on me for liking Black- R&B music and listening to the black stations out of the metro area. Let the FUNK play on! I went on to working at one of the R&B Stations after high school. I loved being there!
As a white dude that caught the funk bug, white girls didn't want to go out with me in the late 70's because of what I listened to! Funny how times have changed today... Incidentally, a white girl was not in the cards for me- I married a beautiful Mexican girl and have been happily married for over 30 years and still enjoying this great music!
It's weird how you can be picked on for liking music. I can't listen to just 1 kind day in and day out. I remember rocking to Foreigner Boston BOC etc... in like 1978 along with the Commodores, Heatwave, Al Green, Chic, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers. Some friend got onto me for listening to the SOS Band in the 80's!! My taste continue to expand in blues, 40's jump blues, 50's doo wop, rockabilly, punk like the Ramones the Clash. Music has been my obsession all my life. Can't imagine how it would be stuck in one genre!! I need to get some more JCB. All I have is his King Kong on a 45 and his greatest hits on cd. This Space Age song is great!
GORGEOUS Instrumentation in conjunction with such a FUNKY flow of SOULfully SMOOTH vocals so MASTERfully done. I recall it happily. Once again this merely proves that THROW BACK Music is always the best Music to hear in comparison to what they are calling Music today. They had some perfect GROOVEs for one nation to ROCK under globally
I was 12 years old in 1976. I was very young listening to this music. My mother & older brother played this kind of funk music all the time. I love it to this day. Rest in peace. Mommy also Jimmy Castor.
I am so grateful that we have UA-cam, because I don't think we would hear this on pop radio today and if we did it would not get the comments we provide on UA-cam. I heard this a couple of days ago on sirrusxm then introduced my 20 year old daughter to it and she loved it. Good music never dies! :)
Used to love Jimmy Castor. I remember this one from some of the house parties, and block parties I used to attend. I liked hearing this in stereo, while outside dancing. It made you feel it even more, and made you really enjoy yourself even better. This bring back so many memories. Thanks.
I heard this song listening to sirius radio and it brought back a lot of memories. The music is off the hook. Even though the song is old it still sounds good.
High school in NYC in the mid-70's was something else. The dance clubs were just coming into their own then. Leviticus, Justine's, Brandy's, Town Hill II, and of course the Garage.
real down funkig sound of the days and how life was and it enjoy the best of time never wont forget how my life was enjoyed this bad ass tune back in the day love back in the day favorite my life forever memories never wont forget
I never had heard the extended 12 inch of this jam before , what a treat. Is it me or in that big Afro pic of Jimmy Castor , don't he look like he could be Jay-Z's Daddy? Lol.
The 12" Version got spins on FM radio for a limited time back in 1976 in Philadelphia, so I knew it existed. I managed to secure a copy in the 1990's and when an unfortunate accident happened, Iwas able to secure another one around 2000. My Oldies contact could get ahold of ANYTHING LOL...Shout out to Armando!
Interesting how prophetic Jimmy Castor (and his album art creators) were. Back in the 70's girls and women weren't doing "da Butt" or doing all the booty-popping they are now. But Jimmy's "Bertha Butt" is doing it on all his album cover art. #aheadofhistime
be grateful, we use to see this stuff live, now I don't think we play music anymore maybe one or two breakout artist come alone look what we gave up try to teach my boys this is a big deal

You are right, it is a nice arrangement.
Brings me back to a garage band I was in. Had all the neighborhood dancing in the street. Thanks for the memory! !
Part of that guitar riff is the early part of the Eagles, Life in the Fast Lane? Waaaay before the Eagles.
Jimmy warned us
We’re did the funk go these days dam!
Do these lyrics give anyone else a chill?
The intro for this song would be the theme for my gritty 70s-set Bronx cop show if I produced one.
Sit back and smoke a J with the blue lights on!! Listening to the instrumentals....it's over!!!
Gerry Thomas, the keyboardist/songwriter/arranger for the Fatback Band, also contributed to the Jimmy Castor Bunch.
