If format would have fixed number of rounds, Karpov would have won and got edge over Kasparov…. But the destiny had decided to make Kasparov ruled and Kasparov got psychological edge after practicing these much against the world best player at the time (ignoring Bobby was still alive, but had quit)
Rather ridiculous format if the outcome can be a shambles like this and lasting far too many months. How did such idiots get to decide the format for an intelligent game???
Any match where the winner is whoever wins X number of games first gives the advantage to whoever is White in Game 1. It makes no sense. Each player should be guaranteed an equal number of games with white.
If the match continued Karpov would have won like he did against Kortchnoi in 1978. The rest of the western propaganda and Kasparov’s nonsensical declarations are hokum. The biggest winner once the match was stopped was obviously Kasparov
Thats your opinion. But facts says Karpov managed to beat Kasparov once from 10th through 48th game of the match and lost last 2 games. To try stop the match for Kasparov people after beating Karpov twice in last 2 played games makes no sense
Karpov was definitely more likely to win at that stage, which Kasparov conceded many years later. That being said, we'll never know what would actually have happened. It's also possible that Karpov would have collapsed. However you look at it, it was a weird decision.
Sometimes I wonder. Rumors were Karpov was already exhausted being up 5 - 0 and hinting at stopping the match. Would Kasparov have agreed then if Campomanes did stop it?

You are rewriting history. AT THE TIME, the universal opinion was that the match had been stopped to save Karpov from collapse.
music ruins all
