Thanks for the support! It’s an honor to be in a Skorpios video!
I think the most unique part of this robot is just how long the drum is. Most teams go for reach, but you’ve built a weapon that’s very hard avoid. Manta hits head first every time. It’s similar to endgame in that it’s so wide teams can’t get around it to reach the sides. Cheering for you if you get accepted, and I’d love to see a full fight against you and Terrortops
I think the reason for the bot keep going on the top is because the parts on the roller needs a few middle blocks welds for more of a direct hit rather than most of the hit points to robots are 2 tooth’s on the side of the roller fix that issue and yea your bot would be very destructive
If manta enters tournament 8, it will be my new ride or die team
Team , All the best for Battle Bots 😎
Incredibly well designed, implemented, and driven! This is what happens when Bite Force, Minotaur, and Copperhead have a triste!
I definitely think Manta has the potential to go far! People have been saying about how powerful Riptide's spinner is this season but Manta seems just as capable of destroying robots like Cataclysm/Mad Catter, super excited to see this video go live! :D
I am seeing a new trend here, Riptide ,Copper head , and Mintara all very destructive bots
@@gripitsg drum spinners are OP
@@TheTrooperMB agreed 💯
And the young man seems like someone I would like to see on TV, so that's a huge bonus!
@@gripitsg Minotaur also
Seeing Manta fight in person was the single scariest moment of my time at RoboGames.....namely in that the 3 fights I watched with it were all 3 fights that it broke the arena. There is nothing more terrifying that seeing the lexan flying off the roof as Terror-Tops's fork is shot straight through the roof as everyone shouts to stop the fight.
I would be absolute shocked if Manta wasn't invited to season 8 of Battlebots, and I think they will do incredibly well.
Manta it's one of the reasons I keep saying for years that Drum bots are the future. That meta it never stop looking strong since over 25 years of existence and that kind of bots can take out forks like nothing. I'm really excited to see a drum bot getting the Nut, I expect to be Minotaur, but if it's not, I'll put my money on Manta next year.
Looks to be an identical design right down to the forks (Bull Horns as they call them on Minotaur) on the front. Nothing wrong with copycat bots and looking forward to see a match up in the near future.
@@TheTwistedStone manta is wider and is four wheel drive,, pretty different imo, it's more similar to something like riptide
@@pietrom2642 yes, but riptide having lower RPM still being vulnerable to forks. High RPM drums like Minotaur are capable to get rid of them because them have enough quantity of hits per second to reach a weak point (like it had happened in the Cobalt fight).
To me the main counters to that configuration are wedges (like Bombshell demonstrated in three occasions) or higher reach weapons capable to make contact before the drum in specific dead zones (like Bite Force and Death roll shown off previously). In the other hand, I will keep saying that high RPM drums are the perfect counter to the fork meta.
@@TheTwistedStone Wider, 4wd, forks, more reach... saying that it is the same is just stupid
Sawblaze: well well well. Looks like the new meta is good for me!
I really like when Ray tipped his hat to manta's driver :)
I think it's possible. Manta is a strong competitor if it goes through battlebots veterans like lucky, madcatter and malice like it did in robogames. It's insane that battlebots rejected them for season 7. I'm praying they get accepted for season 8 and replace shreddit bro for the top 50 for world championship 8. Manta is literally superior to shreddit bro in almost every aspect.
I'm not at all surprised that they got rejected last time.
When they applied, what did they really have going for them compared to other new bots that have been accepted in recent years?
Was the bot a unique, new, interesting design like Glitch, Emulsifier, Ripperoni or Mammoth? No.
Was the bot a heavyweight version of a design that had previously had a lot of success in other weight classes like Starchild, Shreddit Bro or Horizon? No.
Was the bot a weapon type that is under represented, like Banshee? No.
Was it a new bot by an experienced team or a team with lots of experienced members, like Blip (which was also a brand new idea), Fusion or Triton? No.
Last time around it was an unproven, relatively inexperienced team, with a pretty generic looking 4wd drum spinner with forks.
If they don't get in for the next season, given how well it performed at Robogames, then it would be very disappointing, but I absolutely understand why they didn't get in last time.
@@mackemforever
The video showed that Manta is a scaled up version of his antweight
Most robots are superior to Shreddit Bro in every aspect, but yes, Manta is clearly going to be a team to watch next season if they get accepted.
@@paydaygh9388 It's similar to his antweight, but that antweight competed in 2017 and 2018. In combat robotics that's a lifetime ago!
@@grapploct2796 Shreddit Bro was pretty dire this season, but unless you have a crystal ball you want to lend to the producers then I don't see how they are meant to predict which teams will do well and which won't!
Shreddit Bro was one of the most successful bots in its weight class, so it made sense to give them an entry as a heavyweight.
I'm worried about how tight the tolerances are. It looks like one good hit to the back or even sides can disable the entire robot, or at least some of it's functionality. But it looked really solid at Robogames, so we shall see. Season 8 is going to be awesome.
They took quite a few big hits all around throughout the tournament, and just kept on going unfazed. The only exception was the one single time they caught on fire the whole weekend (and I'm not even sure if that was from a hit or some other internal battery/wiring or "overclocking" issue). And given that this was the first outing for this bot that is just amazing.
Also, their drive and turning is good enough that they can mostly avoid getting hit on the sides they don't want to.
Good eyes. I'm curious how it performs when flipped upside-down since it was never flipped during robogames. With how low it is to the ground it is flipping it will prove quite a challenge.
@@theavera9ejoeit was flipped by hexy d then spun up and catched fire
It's a really interesting design. Hard to tell from the video but it looks like a steel 'core' chassis with a honkin' aluminium billet on each side housing the drive, which is four separate motors - one for each wheel and then spaced steel armour protecting the sides (assume its Hardox/AR of some variety) Then two motors each with its own speed controller for the weapon drum. The weapon drum I assume is S7 with three large teeth welded onto the drum and a dead axel (like copperhead).
I don't know how accurate my assessment is but I like what I see.
It's like a Biteforce/Minotaur/Tantrum cross-breed.
*edit* Just watched through the whole video (paused at the start to write my original comment) and it sounds like I was pretty close.
Yeah it's extremely neatly built but i'm worried about the shock resistance of the insides electronics. It looks almost too cramped and not enough cushioned. At Robogames it never took hard hits and the weapon was never forcefully stopped multiple times overloading the electronics.
When it was inverted the drum was scraping the floor, meaning the ears were bending or too short. Can't imagine it surviving landing even just one hard flip.
So i suspect right now it's more of a glass cannon and won't win in its rookie season.
But in the following ones? If it keeps iterating, that right there is the FUTURE of the meta.
That moment at 0:27 is exactly the type of thing that makes me love this bot-builder community so much!
Manta is super impressive as the RoboGames 2023 Champ. Surely, we can see Manta in the Battlebots World Championship VIII. He will get the Giant Nut someday... No doubt about it.
Can't wait to see the Progress of Rebooting Wrex. I also hope we can see Wrex next season or two.
Absolutely deserves a spot in the next series.
However, I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed that this video was made without any mention of the really rather serious safety issues at Robogames this year and the awful behaviour of the Robogames team. You are without a doubt the best team in Battlebots for giving fans behind the scenes content, really engaging with your fans and getting people interested in the sport, and it feels like a shame that you didn't say anything about this.
At least two arena breaches, no statements made about it, resuming fights after bit of a bot had landed outside of the arena, and banning anybody who mentioned it from their twitter and social media pages.
Historically Robogames has been an amazing event, but the way they handled it this year was disgraceful.
I agree, and it was mentioned that the "vets" were likely holding back somewhat due in part to this. Martin Mason pulling his bot out of the 2nd match to decide the champion was just that.
That first incident shocked me. Wasn't a breach or anything, but the one with the Lipo fire. No masks, no nothing, the crew literally dove into the cloud of smoke. And I thought that was the worst we would see, oh god was i wrong.
I really want to see Manta compete more. Just in an arena that can contain modern spinners...
It's not just a dangerous weapon. It looks fast and maneuverable too.
5:50 Bunny (who also funded the version of Manta seen at RoboGames) tapped out because she was scared that they might break through the ceiling if they continued.
That’s the same reason that madcatter team forfeited the second fight when they came out of losers bracket. It wasn’t purely to save equipment like they implied it was also for safety
Sure wish that was explained on the stream. The stream just cut away without any explanation for what apparently was a breach.

Love your behind the scenes look at the different competitors. Manta looks super effective and well driven. I imagine the bot and the team will only improve from here.
Not if it faces Hexidecimator in the finals
My first thought seeing that first Manta match you showed was "WHAT THE HELL. HOW IS IT THAT MANEUVERABLE?" Sure, it gyros, but only on big turns and even then, not much. It almost gives me the same uncanny feel as RIPperoni's maneuverability.
That is a 70lb drum which spins at 250mph which just makes that maneuverability even more impressive.
Looks like a riptide killer lol. I want to see Manta vs Riptide, that would be destructive.
Manta is a menace. that robot fight like its got personal problems with its opponents 😂
It’s like a mix of Minotaur and riptide
Another great video
Yup this should get manta in to battle bots next season
Well engineered bot with 75 pound weapon with 250 tip speed
With brushless motors and backup drive motors!
I agree this could be a top bot let alone rookie of the year
Now Diana love ya never change you make me laugh almost every episode
Sorry if name is spelled wrong
DAMN! Fine work! I think he could come home with BOTH the Giant Nut and Rookie of the Year!
I think Manta's going to do well, but I don't know about the nut. Like, it's CLEARLY capable of performing. There's little to no chance of any weirdness just disabling it for no reason. It's also proven it's capable of beating strong, veteran bots and newcomers alike. There's no question- it's an extremely capable bot that has serious potential.
However, here's a list of bots that weren't at Robogames this year.
Witch Doctor, End Game, Minotaur, Sawblaze, HUGE, Hydra...
Here's a list of bots that are commonly believed to have the best chances of going all the way this year in Battlebots.
Witch Doctor, End Game, Minotaur, Sawblaze, HUGE, Hydra...
Manta have absolutely proven themselves to be at least mid-high tier in my book. Their powerful performance at Robogames has solidified them as a contender, if nothing else, and Battlebots would have to be crazy to turn them down for a slot on the show.
... But I need to see more before I start saying they're gonna win the nut.
The drum unique with the void sections. Honestly very cool since it give a good idea to defence
Wow, brutal. Excited to see where this might go. Hope they make it to Battlebots.
love drumspinners so i hope to see this one in battlebots. imo its unique enough with how flat and wide it is.
I’ll go one stage further than saying we want Manta in BattleBots, we DESERVE Manta in BattleBots and Manta DESERVES to be selected!
Works also as a vacuum cleaner if you have a closer look at the flow moping at 5:39 😂
😂
Go manta! Can't wait to see you take on minotaur next season! Let manta in BB! You rock Manga! Keep it up!
If battle bots let them in. I can see them possibly winning multiple awards, rookie of the year, best design, in the hunt for most destructive, and if things go well a deep run for wc8 giant nut. What manta and team did at robo games as a rookie is scary impressive. Can't wait to see what else they can do.
Imagine destroying tier 1 modern era battlebots like madcatter and tier 2 ones like triton but then getting hexadecimated by comedy central era bots.
Only one word comes to mind… DAMN!!!
It seems the new quirk in the 4WD vert game is having a wider weapon and a lower chassis with forks of course. Really just Bite Force with a drum or a beater bar.
Manta, Big Dill (Banana Runt), Mad Catter, and Malice all had great showings at RoboGames this year. Manta was unstoppable.
And Terrortops. I forgot Terrortops.
WE WANT MANTA! #season8
Manta looks deadly! if it competes next season that'll be one to watch for sure!
Manta needs to be on BattleBots!
Manta aka Drago Is just nuts, I hope they get in season 8.
Nik and the team definitely seems a lot nicer and kind then team riptide.
Having watched combat robotics for 15 years, I'd like to see Manta in BB s8. Looks like the driver needs a little more work migrating from smaller to larger bot class/weights, but the fundamentals are there. I also like the arrangement of the technology inside the bot. I say this to all you builders. You all need to change your wiring colors. It's okay to run stripes just so you know what line is going to where.
I really love how low profile manta is, it's almost at Biohazard's if you remove their drum spinner.
Im so hyped for manta since robogames. Anyways, you two are too cute.
Would love to see manta in battlebots!
Manta scary. I reckon the meta could shift towards drums in the near future. They seem to be the most effective counter to 4wd verts (Minotaur vs Endgame being a prime example).
*I hope he'll conquer over Riptide n finally make Ethan shut up. He seems like a humble, patient n respectable guy n every good narrative needs a hero!*
Manta was impressive, and excellent driving by the rookie! Can't wait to see Manta in BattleBots 8.
I was blown away watching RG2023 with this kid. He won every match except for the one with HexyD when he caught on fire. I was also told he didn't get selected for BB for this season. I hope he gets chosen to next season. MANTA has my vote. It was highly impressive
The link in the description to the botbashparty website is incorrect. The text reads correctly but when I click the link it has extra characters appended to the url which leads to a missing address and a 404 error page. All other links in the description work properly.
I bet itd be an absolute monster for a rookie, but theres so many gremlins at every stage making it to the nut that it almost feels impossible to say they would win it first go. If they do make it in BattleBots though, id love to see them become a staple team and really push for the nut!
We want Manta!!!!!
I don't know if I can confidently say win the nut just yet, but definitely possible, would love to see Manta in an arena that can handle it. Although I have to say it's wild to think their only loss was to Hexadecimator, a Comedy Central era bot that doesn't appear to have changed too significantly since then lol (I'm sure it's not the exact same bot from the early 2000s but... it definitely doesn't seem super modernized)
Manta would do well at BB, I'd like to see 'em try their hand!
Manta's probably gonna be the face to Riptide the heel lol
I really hope they make Season 8!
That thing would feast on forks, I hope they make season 8
GO MANTA
Who knew a wider drum spinner is so effective it lessens the gyroscopic when turning
Yeah, because of the wider wheelbase it helps fighting the gyroscopic effect.
Also keeping that gyro lower to the ground means it has less leverage on the drivetrain.
It seems like a cross between Riptide and Minotaur.
What makes his robot different from than other drum spinners? Would like to see the clash between him and riptide
Manta deserves to be in BattleBots, they should have Riptide's place as they are both 4 wheel drum/egg-beaters only Manta has a actually decent team.
Yes.
It's definitely a powerful bot no doubt, I wonder however if they can show the stamina/persistence/repairability required for battlebots... Only way one to find out, let them in Greg&Trey!
Manta has potential to be the new riptide in my opinion
Looks like it should be highly seeded, gonna need some speed and a Huge strategy.
Even if Manta doesn't win Battlebots WCVIII they sure have made a name for themselves by winning RoboGames.
Hopefully they'll get selected.
If he is as good against the battlebots robots as he appeared on the robogames ones, i'd say he is rookie of the year for sure, possibly even best fight. but there are many very strong teams who dont make it to robogames but are in battlebots, he would be among the big fish, and a very welcome addition. Possibly even among the best of them inside a year or two. but giant nut, that's best left at maybe, maybe not. Would be very interested in seeing it against a few of the bots on battlebots though. Course there are a couple of overhead spinners who now that they have seen where the juicy bits are inside this bot, and how tight it is packed, would do some very serious damage if they landed a hit.
oh definitely a strong contender for the giant nut I just hope they don't mark it as dangerous like they did with Deep Six
Looks really good. Too bad the major networks don't cover this league. I don't even know what to call it to search for it.
With that type of showing in RoboGames, I think Manta has a very great chance of making a deep run
Manta is sick!
Manta will win Season 7. It will drive down the tunnel with a steel chair after the official WC match only to roof the would-be winner and steal the nut for themselves. The drum is so powerful it can open space-time anomalies to exist before it was built.
I feel like if manta and riptide had a match it would not go 3 minutes and one of them would be destroyed by that, big hits, may only last 30 seconds.
I work at battlebots and when I got back from robogames I made sure Trey and Greg knew about Manta.
If Manta does get into the next season, it would definitely be a strong contender for the Giant Nut and Rookie of the Year.
It's A Manta Ray Battlebot!
Maybe rookie of the year, but the giant nut? It would be a he'll of run......
*Now* will they accept Manta for next season? They just need a theme for tv, some sort of characterization, and they're good to go.
Absolutely, no question, I saw what happened to tritons bar and what manta can do so I think that manga can win the giant nut
Scorpio needs to rework the ground games
Manta was so disgusting not even the box could take its hits! It would/will be an amazing contender at BB! Just look at its billing in Robogames. It beat effectively Big Dill, Ray Billing's aka Team Tombstone, Terrortops (which was amazing this Robogames), Malice, (did he beat Ziggy Jr aka Lucky too? IDR), and Madcatter! Impressive
Stink Eye was a meme bot made out of scrap Ray had lying in his garage though.
The wins over Big Dill, Terrortops, Malice (which was also shredding bots left and right at robogames) and Madcatter were very impressive. The only issue I can see is that the robogames floor is trash and the groundgame in Battlebots is on a whole other level. But if Manta can figure out their forkgame and with the big chungus beater bar on the front chewing up opponents forks, then they can be a real contender indeed.
i hope someone figures out how to nix these drums sooner than later before that's the entire field.
We want manta for season 8
Put him on season 8!!!
Are we not gonna talk about it catching on fire because I caught on fire against a flipper that never worked
The reliability is weird sometimes is absolutely amazing. Sometimes it’s God awful.
@@funnybones46 I’m curious how much of a difference the difference in reasonable funds between a robogames budget and a battle bots budget can improve the reliability of the bot
(I’m a racer so I’ll use that as my example your not gonna allow yourself the same budget racing regionally as you would racing nationally)
70 pounds and 250 mile per hour tip speed?! Oh boy...if he enters Battlebots, he's very likely going to have the most powerful vertical spinner in the competition! Manta looks like a combination of Minotaur and Riptide put together! Manta also doesn't seem to be a glass cannon since he's handling those hits well! I think he's a potential giant nut winner here
Manta better be in season #8
In terms of raw power and aggression Manta is going to be the next Riptide, minus the despicable team and stolen design of course
If I was the builder of Manta, I would enter Battlebots with cautious optimism. After all, Manta's run at Robogames wasn't entirely perfect. 🔥
I can see it making a deep run in its first season, but I think it'll go no further than top 4. As for subsequent seasons, after gaining more experience, it could reach End Game levels of success.
I doubt they'll get the nut in WC8, but quite plausibly 9 or 10
Manta is the new riptide
Or glitch because it had reliability
Damn manta is not only highly distructive but also extremly mobile also don't put wheels on a fighting bot that is just leting everyone know that the wheeled bot will be turned to scrap metal
Manta looks like Minotaur on steroids 😃
Big Dill but without spinner
No way.
i dunno if they can take a giant nut.... well they can, but i wouldnt put favor on the bot... it doesnt seem like the most armored bot...
glass cannons tend to crumble before the finals..
still looks hella fun to watch, hope Battle bots has room for 2 more drums
What about rusty
Manta looks amazing and it did really well at RoboGames, but the level of competition is quite a bit higher at BattleBots. IMO Manta has a really good shot at rookie of the year and the top 32, but I think they'd also need some lucky breaks to win the nut.
Said it before, will say it again. Manta to replace Riptide in Championship 8.
Spectacular performance by them, and giving a young guy his big chance would be awesome.
Riptide team it's embarrassing nowadays. We don't want people that acts like ass in this sport…
Agreed the riptide team aren’t the kind of people that the sport needs representing its top level
(Due to attitude and source of funding)
Manta will DESTROY the competition! A well driven bot! Also, I’m wondering, did Sewer Snake attend this Season of RoboGames?
Not sure why people keep referring to Nick as a rookie, he’s been doing the sport for probably 8+ years, including 3 seasons of BattleBots.
I think Manta is being referred to as a rookie. Rookie bot is a term I've heard applied to many new robot designs entering their first big competition even when they come from an established team.
@@bleepbloopblahp Basically this. See bots like Ripperoni and Blip.
