Inside The Life Of Vegas Dave, The Most Polarizing Figure In Sports Gambling | Forbes Investigates

- When Dave Oancea isn’t earning millions flipping rare cards (or spending it on Birkin bags), he’s selling suckers pricey betting picks. Too bad it’s a losing proposition.
Oancea is not your typical memorabilia collector. Vegas Dave, as he’s known to his millions of followers on social media, is a notorious gambling influencer, known for selling picks on which team will win a given game. Vegas Dave says he’s the best “sports information consultant” in the world, but if you dig into his past and his picks you’ll find a shady hustler who sells a service that has little, if any, value for his customers.
He became well-known in the sports gambling circuit in 2015 after collecting $2.5 million on a futures bet that the Kansas City Royals would win the World Series that year. In February 2016, he also won a $2.3 million payout when the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.
Despite holding the winning ticket for the Super Bowl, he couldn’t collect the full amount because the federal government was investigating him at the time. The following year, Oancea was indicted on 19 felonies related to his longstanding habit of using other people’s Social Security numbers to place wagers. In 2019, Oancea, who was represented by the well-known Vegas criminal defense attorney David Chesnoff, accepted a plea bargain. Instead of being convicted of nearly twenty felonies, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, forfeited half a million dollars, and was banned from Las Vegas sportsbooks for three years.

“Buy my opinion & I’ll tell you who’s gonna win.” If you fall for that, you deserve to lose your money.
People pay for information in all avenues of business buddy
As crazy as that sounds, it's a big biz. I agreed, gullible people deserve to lose their money.

When 2 teams are playing against each other, flipping a coin will give you a 50% chance of winning. Many of the hits, catches, misses are done by inches.
aye?
He's basically selling dream. Very lucrative!
If picks were ever any good, they would use them to make money - not sell them
Well said
Or do both
he is banned from betting, hence why he sells and doesnt just bet his picks
@@anthonyc1754 if that was true vegas casinos would never ban him because all he does is lose.
While this is partially true, there is one reason that selling picks can be viable to someone that actually does have a winning strategy and an edge: limitations by the sportsbooks. Once you have a method that actually works, particularly one that does the bet selection for you, the great difficulty comes in being able to consistently place those bets. I've been limited twice myself, and now I'm having to hold back my optimal stake size from what's optimal just to not get an account limited in the first few days of using it. As such, I'm definitely considering selling my picks next NBA season. Having to constantly work around limitations can be difficult and annoying. Given that potential profit it's absolutely worth it - but it's effort, for sure. Money from picks would be less profitable (if sold at a fair price, in my opinion) but is so much easier.
Great journalism
We need Coffeezilla to dig into this guy... that would be PPV action at its finest.
Checked out after I seen the 👜 purse
He is a fraud
I hope these kids online realize how big of a buisness renting lambos is.
If the dude knew anything about betting he'd make more than enough money doing it, he wouldn't need to sell his tout's for money. Those that can do. Those that can't teach.
I lost $113,000 betting on his plays. Never again.
He dont need you ever again
Not smart, you believed his bullshit!!!!

At the end of the day, if it sounds too good to be true, then it often isn't true.
So basically you pay him money for a pick THEN bet MORE money?
People are so desperate to get rich quick that they don't stop and think. When you buy picks, the picks need to be even more successful than they would otherwise in order to make a profit, because you also have to cover the cost of the picks. You're starting with even more handicap than just the bookies' vig. But despite how successful the picks have to be to overcome the vig and the cost of the picks themselves, people don't ask for evidence that the person is a long time winning bettor. They just... do it.
his eyes tell it all.
what a miserable life
Nice man purse I know I know your purse cost more than my house😂

Vegas Dave ain't shyt
These dudes need to do major jail time
it doesn't matter if he didn't know the card was fake the fake card voids the deal
Damn dude got serious legal issues
Am not saying that he good or bad , but only 2 pick can’t really saying anything about he good or bad . You need at least 500-1000 pick to make that conclusion that he good or bad .
About this time our present cook, George “Rabbit” Daniels, was notified he was to be rotated back to the states. I spoke of him earlier and of his compulsive gambling. He had had poor gambling success in these months but unknowingly lady luck was again to smile upon him. He went ashore at Lybia after receiving his pay and proceeded to the monthly big game, then on to the voter machines at Dominion.
The main issue is he lies about most of his results.... Some are complete fabrications
To be fair, if Josh Donaldson didn't get injured I think the Twins couldv'e won the World Series.
Good point.
So, does he INTEND to dress like Lady Gaga joined the mafia?...
Vegas Dave is a conman
vegas dave is the american dream in 2020. Working a 9-5 habing a wife kids and middle class house and car aint what it is. Its about being rich . Not a 9-5 joe. im a pro gambler guys. follow me the next great one with no scandals lmao
Got a guy that can bet in him in this game. #JakeHunter88
Vegas Dave is a smart guy and his haters are lame human beings !
He looks like a chubby Mike The Situation.
He sells both sides so 1/2 his customers win. Always been a conman.
Nah. 100% of his customers lose, guarenteed or next super goat is 50% off

Definitely not the most polarizing figure

What happened to this guy
HES A SCAMMERRRR!!!
Looks like a nice guy
people are so funny. McDonald’s feeds you poison, it’s $20 dollars to make a iPhone and you paid over a thousand for it. I’m sure some picks wins some picks loses. I tell you this, he damn sure ain’t broke lol he’s in Lakers court side seats and that’s not free or a hook up.
Did you even pay attention? Of course he's not broke. He sells picks to people that are convinced that his lifestyle is the result of being a good sports bettor (rather than the reality of it, that his lifestyle is the combination of his parents bailing him out of bankruptcy, getting very lucky on a long shot futures bet, and now living off the profits of the picks he sells rather than profiting long term off the picks themselves).
If I had heaps of people paying me hundreds, sometimes even thousands of dollars for picks that he probably just randomly selects, I could probably afford afford courtside tickets too.

Bet the opposite
It's not even that though. By all accounts he's just an average bettor. The issue is that average bettors lose to the vig in the long run. If you bet the opposite, you'll still lose to the vig in the long run.
This guy is a prat
what shitty journalism lol

Bro your a hater! You dig up someone’s past and want them to be helpful with you to retell a story of who they no longer are. He progressed and is doing well while you are stagnant reporting on his life…..👀👀he’s alive, your watching. Forbes needs better material!!
Lol, what a joke. Admittedly he's hustling well, but he's almost a con man. It seems like his primary source of income these days is his sports picks business, and he convinces people to buy those picks through misrepresentations of his success - because if he actually presented it accurately, they wouldn't sell. Calling people out for their shady behaviour that's very similar to that of a con man is not 'being a hater'.
