This is a very cool idea, I suspect it would be easier with oil paints as you could just do a black or black or black and burnt umber dot filtering and scumbling before cleaning up the highlights with a damp brush. As far as filming goes, I know some cameras have a large enough screen on the back that you can just have it between your face and the model and just use it like a magnifier lens when painting... assuming you can make it focus on the model.
