We fitted a whole house of these last year, did all of the machining for the linings and the doors on the bench and fitted them at the same time - after the plastering (we fitted sublinings/grounds). I made up a jig on my brother's cnc machine that had interchangeable faceplates for the deep bore and the shallower one - was setup like a skeleton jig. Very easy to fit in the end with al the adjustments!

What’s the catch? Just a roller to noisy open with a thumb turn lock in the inside? How do you open the door from the outside if someone gets trapped inside?

Very clean and precise, looks fantastic. Just a quick question, what latch do you use, just a standard roller latch?

Hi Robin, no doubt you have a reason for this question, but could you not have had the door opening outward , so that you do not see a line where the panels end on the door, that way you could have had the panels the same as height as the rest and a totally invisible door .

You need a handle or recess so you could open the door outwards.

Beautiful margins on the door robin 👌. I originally worked on body work motor cars as my trade. Ya can adjust hinges up down in out. Door lock Striker up down in out.i changed trades to carpentry and learned lots new stuff. I often wondered could a standard 102mm but hinge be made adjustable and the keeper be adjustable 🤔. Small tweekes be nice. Those hinges robin you used are brilliant. Best channel on utube. Looking forward to more 👍🇮🇪

Bathrooms are considered low fire risk and do not usually require a fire door, but this rule can change geographically from Local Authorities etc

love the work it's too bad I didn't meet someone like you along the way in this field started to late I'm 59 now and love this stuff.
I LIKE THE BATON on the brick wall to cover it up idea you did. I'M NO EXPERT but love this stuff I did a wall that I had to hide a door that was an eye sore I've never had training but like to watch and learn the customer loved it so that made me happy my next door I'm going to make a bookshelf that opens up but covers another eye sore door lots of them in the area for some reason.
I'm very nervous so I'm trying to get my brain to visualize it the working of it the set up but it's really hard when not knowing terms size of nails or screws to use or wood types or just plain having no experience makes it all tuff but ill push through.
also not having a shop now that's tuff now that I found this channel, I'll hang out here and pick your brain.
thanks for sharing where do you guys find the time to do all of this stuff videoing building this stuff takes time at least good work does.

Robin, I am a diyer and I watch your channel to learn carpentry. I don't understand why my timber is not as good as what you use in your videos. Most of my timber is delivered from yard and I am not sure if I should check every piece at yard before it's delivered? Timber I get often has fine cracks or its slightly wrapped. What is the best way to buy timber and how to store it at site to avoid wrapping? Many thanks.

Could you not have still just used butt hinges on the hidden door? The pivot point looks like it’s in the same place so it’s not like they’re being swung over like on a concealed hinge for example.

Hi, I am a Building Control Officer and it is almost certain these type of hinge will reduce or even invalidate the fire rating of a fire door if it has not been tested with this type of door furniture . If the door has not been tested with a housed in hinge it would not be acceptable from a Building Regulation compliance perspective. Really important to use door furniture that is the same or similar to that tested with the fire door. This is an issue that we often come across when doing completion inspections. Hope this helps.

Hi Robin. I am doing a hidden door the same as that one in your video. However the door wont open 90 degrees . The edge of the door hits the frame and I can't see anyway to fix it?

    • @elianese9319
      @elianese9319 6 місяців тому

When installing this type of hinge, they usually need to be within 4 millimeters of the side the door opens to, should be in the instructions paper. Otherwise the edge of the door and jamb touch.
They can also be adjusted slightly, up, down and into each other or out.
This is why its difficult to add slats if the door opened outward
