The stepdown set requires only one trap. Setting 2 traps at each set was popular many years ago. There are coyotes that will not work a set for a variety of reasons, but we can add a set near by that cagey coyotes will work. A 100 traps at 100 locations will catch more fur than 100 traps in 50 locations.
Ed I am a huge fan of your "dirt hole that works" set. I watched your video and gave it a try and boom, first night out nailed a bobcat. The only thing that was a bummer was that it was the last couple days of the season so I didn't set anymore. Cant wait until next season to use it again. Thanks for the video.
Seldomfales- I do leave it there. However i failed to mention that I pack that soil down toake it a solid approach. The set achieves full commitment by the canine that choses to work the set. Good question that needed clarifing. Thank you.
Your question about where you place your set is a good question. I believe it is the most important piece of knowledge a trapper should know. Liik for sign of the animal you pursue, then pick out suitable location to place your where you find sign. Field edges, waterways, ect. Are great places to start looking.
Hi Greg, You are right about that drill packing a punch, However, because I filmed it at home I used my "electric hammer drill"! But I do use a dewalt 18 volt cordless on my trapline.
Edward is the part at home side narrow than back with trap and does it go on a slope from trap to hole is it filled up with dirt in back at hole and 3 in. lower at trap. thanks.

the back of dirt hole is narrow. I try and make it only as wide as my trappers hammer. I make a wedge shaped trench. make the coyote work for it!
I was asking is this Sat deadly on red fox and gray fox, I would have to say its very effective for both animals.

What if it rain and the hole is full of water its not going to work ! I will try it and see !
James you are correct in saying it can fill with water. A trapper has to look at the weather when using this set. Thank you for your comment
