That place is a big rip. There is nothing there. If you want to find good crystals go to Diamand Hill mine in SC .Also Ray mine in Burnsville is public.Aquamarine and tourmaline. If you want garnets go to Little Pine garnet mine.Crabtree mine emerald smokey quartz tourmaline, yellow beryl.Ray mine is free very steep mountainous tailings piles from the actual mine.

Have you ever hunted for emeralds at crabtree?

The surrounding tobacco fields have more emeralds than that place nowadays...there are emerald pockets but you need big equipment and deep pockets.

I’ve gone twice now, and I always go in the creek. Wonderful on a hot summer day. Only need a bit of bug spray, trees provide pretty good shade. Would recommend some water shoes/boots because the water is very cold. I’ve had very good luck in the creek. The longer you work, the more you find.

There are lots of gems you can find. They have a display board for you to look at so you have an idea of what you’re looking for. Emeralds, sapphires, hiddenite, and a lot more

I have never really seen anything coming out of there, my next trip should be to Crabtree emerald mine, I just missed a field trip there but the heliodor & black tourmaline stuff is everywhere & there’s a better chance of finding emerald

Thanks for the honest review on this mine. Seriously.
I've never been here, so it's good to see a "real" perspective of it from a first timer so we will know what to expect and look out for.
"We have an abundance of world class smoky and clear quartz crystals..." that may be true, but it seems like one would be hard-pressed to find them digging in the areas they have set aside for mining to the public.
Still, if I am ever in the area, I might try them for a bit to give them a chance to see how it goes...

Thanks, Joe. Yes I think if someone finds something good it probably gets roped off so keep your finds to yourself haha. I would love to go back though.

Check out the John’s Corner UA-cam channel. He mines there all the time, and finds some pretty amazing stuff (not so much emeralds, but a lot of great quartz crystals, rutile, and green mica books.)
