Brookite and Smoky Quartz Dig at Magnet Cove Arkansas May 2024
A Million thanks to Avant Mining for granting public access to this location, and as always going to a Crystal Collector dig event is a great time with great people. Search for them on UA-cam and Facebook and join their pages they are the real deal I'm just a happy digger.
Magnet Cove Arkansas is a notoriously private area, don't go asking landowners to dig. This was a rare opportunity to dig awesome smoky quartz and brookite clusters at an affordable price and with the help of a machine which is 1000% what you need to find great stuff. I really hope you enjoy this video, I have been trying to figure out how to clean these specimens so if you have any tips that worked for you add a comment below.

Cleaning Graves Mountain Georgia Irridescent Hematite or Turgite

Long after my trip to Graves Mountain Georgia to collect irridescent hematite, I discovered there was more treasure found than previously thought. Using an "aluminum brightener" solution, there was a positive improvement in appearance in some specimens. However, see what you think for yourself in this video.

Crowleys Ridge Agates Near Forrest City, Arkansas
Переглядів 1,8 тис.Рік тому
Some of these that look like agates might be petrified wood, banded jasper/chert, or maybe just a reddish jasper. I really liked the red moss agate appearance of the rock used in the main photo. It is not the agate formation typically sought for at Crowley's ridge which are tan and have fortification lines, however some of those were found as well. I spent a day here digging though through tailing piles at the Diamond Hill Mine in South Carolina. To be clear the mine is the dirt piles. There is a link in the description that you can use to map to the spot with your phone if you do GPS on google maps. From I-40 you take the New Castle Rd. Exit near Forest City. Go North on New Castle Rd and take a right on "409" after maybe a couple miles. After you get on 409 it might be 1/2 mile until you get to Crow Creek and the bridge over it. This is the spot.

I don't know enough about the cleaning reaction, but I think the reason why it works on Graves Mountain material is because some is coated in a thin layer of aluminum. I am guessing it won't work on what you have.

Yeah, I’ve been tossing around the idea of joining…. I guess a lot of people are just concerned about what used to be semi secret locations getting overrun, but from what I’ve seen any place they’ve put up so far seem okay & it is especially hard to find new locations in the upstate of sc, the national forest service has stopped even letting people pan for gold, the permit was free until recently. Great garnets though & it does seem worth it for the price, we pay to be in local rock clubs so I don’t see the difference, take care & good luck digging 👍✌️

Sifting is not a good way to find crystals. It’s best to just dig out the pile and hand sift through the loose dirt. The bigger ones will pop out.
