I can't BEGIN to tell you how excited I am for this! Thank you *SO* much for reacting to this song; Gene is an incredible musician in all regards, and his contributions to the genre and community are beyond measure ❤️
I'm so delighted to finally see Gene on the channel, thanks so much for doing such careful analysis of this performance and highlighting so many details. You've done so much for the beatbox community bringing your vocal expertise to looking at these performances!
Gene has a great tutorial on his chords. Basically he'll vibrate his lips at the speed of the root while voicing a 5th or 3rd or other harmonic. Search "Gene Shinozaki lip oscillation"
I just want you to kow that your vocal explenations/showcases are absolutely gorgeous and much appreciated. you are not only highly knowledgeable about your subject of expertise but highly skilled in it aswell, which makes these a blast to watch every time.
Thanks again for your coverage of this art form. Your excitement is infectious, and your knowledge helps bring legitimacy to their skills outside their circles.
9:21 here gene is using an inward snare with an inward liproll, meaning all the pitches and techniques are inward. This shows how technical he is and also very wise with his breath control.
finally react to this? it's one of the best wildcard ever produced, what makes it more epic was Gene is doing "daily beats" where he makes a beat every single day, and the series ended with this masterpiece ‘Metamorphosis' as #100, and it matched exactly the time where people participating gbb21 wildcard.
Can i just say how adorable the beatbox community comments are on these videos? You all deserve to be excited that your art is being recognized for the amazing thing it is and it's so fun watching you watching the world find out what you all have known all along ... that you're incredible! and who better than the precious Loli :)
The beatbox community shows very rare hate, Even if someone isn't as skilled as others, Know as much or are new to beatbox completely, we teach and learn all the time, That's what i love about our community :)
@@420isplenty5I agree with that. We’re one of the few communities left that has very very little hate. We’re all here to appreciate the music no matter the skill level.
Quote of the day "It just seems cruel.. and unjust! That so many of us are kept in the dark about this ability to.... multiflap" Just recently found you channel but i love the content!
@@ScribblyDoodle I would disagree, double voice is ascending pitch, descending pitch, mixing it up however you want. That doesn't make it a reverse yodel. I would recommend watching show-go tutorial on double voice where he explains it better
@@ScribblyDoodlealso another reason why it's not reverse yodel, because triple voice and quadruple voice exist too where you can do 3-4 sounds instead of just 2
@@GrowingDownUnder I have watched it, many times haha. It's not reverse because of where it goes in pitch, but because rather than flipping from chest voice to head voice (a regular yodel), it's from head voice to chest/mixed voice. It "reverses" the vocal registers and the way that you have to apply air pressure to make the flip happen. But the pitch itself can go up or down. You can showgo from a higher note to a lower note, or from a lower note to a higher note. Not sure about the triple or quadruple voice... I know I've seen people tap their larynx to get more articulations in. Maybe you can just alternate between regular and reverse yodels?
I love this Piece so much and no matter how many time I hear it the emotion this piece provokes is amazing. For sure in my top ten favorite beatbox performances. Gene is so good.
It's insane how good you are at explaining and exemplifying whatever involves voice stuff. That would be so good for me to have it with Zora's (from Blackbriar) vocals. It's enough that she opens her mouth and I disintegrate... I collapse into a blackhole of love... In my craziest dreams you would react to 'Blackbriar - Cicada (Official Music Video)' and you would mix it with 'Cicada (Isolated Vocals)' for in-depth analysis "in premium mode" 😉! (isn't it a golden opportunity that they have dropped the isolated vocals of the song ? ♥️). I'm pretty sure you won't regret ☺️
Gene is a genius master of unusual and original sounds the idea behind his beatboxing is to copy instruments, he has been developing that sound which is like a violin for years, this is the essence of his beatboxing he takes his time playing instruments himself or listening to them and developing the similar sound with mouth and he is patient and consistent during the process, this is what I call mastery
Watching your beatbox reactions is something else, Lolli. Everytime I see these uploads on my feed I get the happy good brain juices flowing, immediately so. I got really into listening to beatbox from watching your reactions and, yet again and again, you give me a whole new appreciation for the techniques and musicality beatbox artists keep on pushing for. Thank you very much!
The beauty of the "flapping" is that he does it in multiple different ways. The lip flapping itself is both outward and inward as required. He also uses uvular vibrations to create notes apart from the standard false fold vibrations. Most beatboxers can do these techniques standalone. But to use execute them this perfectly one after another while maintaining pitch and tone is insanely difficult.
Mmm, _lovely_ reaction. This piece absolutely blew my mind the first time I heard it. It took my appreciation for beatboxing from a sort of "Oh that's cool" place to "Oh shit, if you get good enough at that, you can do _incredible_ things!" I got into his music in general, and he's very good, but there's still something really magical about Metamorphosis.
Ah yes... Gene Shinozaki. No matter how much I practice, I can ever seem to do it like he does 😆The fact that you just analyse the routine perfectly blows my mind 🤯
Thank you for all your videos, I've learnt so much and now appreciate all the nuances of all the artists you have covered. As you can gather, I'm a newbie and have been looking at all your history.
I'm so glad you finally did this one. The one I really wish you would do after this one is Stich from the same wildcard, the craziest poly voice prafomance I have ever seen
hi the fairy Voice mother I'm glad to see you back with those beatbox reactions. I'd really love to see you react to some battels. Because there are some battels that contains vocal performance like (BizKit vs Robin LOOPSTATION GBB 202) this battel is so interesting and i really love to see you react to it. Thank you for reading my comment i love you and i love your content and we are supporting you as long as you go.
Another great reaction, I love the insights you give! If you would like another beatboxer that is musically gifted and puts out so many amazing videos, songs and downright experiences, then I highly suggest you react to Tom Thum. He is an Australian beatboxer that loves to use the loopstation for his music, he is one of the OG's of modern beatbox, being around the scene for nearly two decades at this point, he has even done a few videos with Gene!
In the first notes of that piano scale I heard Link opening a chest in Zelda 😂 Anyway, thank you for reviewing this! There is a video that includes this one, which features all the other wildcard winners of that year (Show go, Alexhino, Alem, Stitch etc) that is definitely a must watch! Keep it up, we want more BeatBox reviews 🔥
8:50 he also uses liprolls! Technique that took beatboxing by a storm a few years ago, but in this case he uses them with his voice. He alternates between outward lip oscillations where he squeezes his lips together to get a certain note, and he is so skilled with that, that he can create crystal clear intervals with his lips and voice, not just oscillating whole numbers of octaves apart! And the same case with liprolls, which are performed by breathing in through the corner of your lips to create much lower frequency clean sub-bass tones. Here Gene also uses his voice, in this case inward singing, creating intervals with his sub-bass liprolls, and this is so crystal clear, he's incredibly skilled with that! Usually if the mic is slightly on one side and there's subbass, then it's an inward liproll, otherwise it's an outward lip oscillation, well, the tones of these two sounds are drastically different. Also a cool thing to note: he likes to create the effect of an overblown speaker with these same outward lip oscillations by squeezing his mouth really hard I think
So happy to see more beatboxing on the channel! Gene is a treasure 😊 Don't think it would make for good reaction content, but you should check out the beatboxing couple Trung Bao and Chiwawa and just scroll through their shorts.
Hello!!!! So glad you finally got to react to this masterpiece 🥰 4:13 I don't think it's a whole tone scale : I believe he is singing a Bb seven chord with a flat nine, because he is singing the notes Bb D F Ab Cb D F
I love your interest in beat-boxing. Thank you for introducing the uninitiated to it. Your reactions are priceless and so novel. Please react to a new favorite group of mine - a folksy, modern kinda song - by a Swedish duo, Johanna and Klara Soderberg and their group, First Aid Kit - it’s called My Silver Lining. I think you’d love it - unique and indie and beautifully written!
Gene is actually using another kind of bass technique that we call it "vibration bass".It has a much lower frequency and a unreal "vibration" texture, and normally much harder for human to learn this. Many beatboxers have tutorials about this.
PLEASE, post a reaction to the GBB23 Wildcard by Wing - its another impossible masterpiece of beatboxing and hearing your breakdown of it would be so cool for the beatbox community and probably bring more attention to his amazing performance from the uninitiated! ❤
just a heads up as someone experienced on the beatbox aspect of things @ 9:51 it was Vibration bass which is a mixture of... hmm i'll try to explain but it may come off wrong as there are many types of vibration bass.. essentially tho it is vocal fry almost mixed with throat bass but it's a very small sweet spot between the two. However every beatboxer's Vibrations may sound different sometimes, Gene's own is one of the more basic(which doesn't mean easy, its just common and VERY hard to get right for most if not all) types. Just thought i'd share a bit of what I know, and will continue to do so if you'd like😁
This pitched lip bass he's doing is essentially like that one you're doing. But it sounds way more soft, when you add the tongue to it. Place the tip of your tongue against the upper lip very softly. So that it acts like the lower lip. You should be able to speak a "B" without using your lower lip. If that's the case, awesome. Now blow air through and tighten up both lips and your tongue. You should now be able to get a lip oscilation but way softer. Combine it with your voice and play around with different pitches. By tightening your lips you can increase or decrease the frequenzy ^^
