DEMONSTRATING UNIVERSAL VALUES OF HIGHER EDUCATION | Tran Phuong Bui | TEDxHCMUSSH

“How can learners decide on their appropriate methods of education in the teaching environment that still stirred up a lot of controversy in Vietnam today?” That question is of great significance, which Ms. Tran Phuong had put forward to young people in TEDx Talk session.
In general, the mission of higher education is to study scientific truths on rational basis, enlarge the sphere of human knowledge and spiritual part of humanity, thereby serving for national interests. In the West, truths have been discovered through global exploration to reach universal values. Meanwhile, the East is more focused on the values ​​of the golden age, penetrating into the innermost part of a person to understand the world.
Education challenges exist in Vietnam and other countries adhering to Eastern philosophy. It doesn’t matter what method is: homeschool, bridge programs or online learning; learners should apprehend that learning is a lifelong process, therefore it needs to be thoroughly perceived on the basis of proper self-awareness and core values. As a result, they ​​are able to freely choose and take responsiblitiy for their own choices. Dr. Bui Tran Phuong - Former Principal of Hoa Sen University, scientist & educational manager, and founder of TEACH - a volunteer project that contributes to change the way of teaching and learning.
She has always conceived human kindness as a foundation towards an effective education, as she stated: "If people know how to perceive beauty, they would recognize it and would live better. Studying to develop people, for me, is the root of learning. " This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
