I have loved Jon’s voice since I first heard Hamferd. The UA-cam live clip from the church concert is magical. I have met him and got a fanboy pic, he is polite and deserves all the hype. Cannot wait to see Iotunn this summer in Finland!
If ya'll like Hamferð and IOTUNN, you guys might like Barren Earth. Jón Aldará also does vocals for them. But yeah, great vocalist. Makes me proud to be Faroese
Kinship Elegiac is one of those songs that just lets your mind flow. You set in a calm place and are just empty you only listen and try to digest everything.
I've been waiting so long for people to start reacting to him! There are some really good proshot live performances of him in Hamfero, dude is a BEAST!
Before Jón mentioned Åkerfeldt I was thinking of Opeth and some 2000's Power Metal. And also of Dimmu Borgir's more scenic musical landscapes. Also mentioning Labyrinth. After that I couldn't unhear David Bowie. And the Nevermore comment stuck with me. But apart from all the references: What a genius composition and vocals! Right after releasing this comment I will head over to Iotunn and listen to this song again. Thank you for bringing Iotunn to our attention and thank you for the music!
@@PaulvonderHeyden I couldn't agree more... And look... Jeff Loomis is teasing a comeback of Nevermore for 2025... For me, this guy is a real candidate to fulfill the position.
Maaaaaan i love iotunn im in love With The vocals since i first listen "The tower of cosmic nihility" hope one day i can see Them live here in Argentina
So glad Mark brought up Labyrinth and then David Bowie. Within the first 20 seconds or so of the vocals on this one, I said out loud while I was cooking "man, the way he sings reminds me a LOT of David Bowie". So, to hear Mark reaffirm that was a W in my book
I remember putting them on after seeing the name EVERYWHERE in like maybe October, it was Mistland, and I was liking it but not paying attention too much. Then this man's voice appears and HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT
Who's this Zach Galifianakis - Jack Black hybrid man? Awesome video, thanks to both of you! Jón is my absolute favourite singer at the moment and I actually love Hamferd even more.
Really nice to see Iotunn get more attention, fantastic band with some great albums. One of those bands that despite doing everything well do not get the exposure they deserve. Luckily they are slowly getting more exposure. Probably a lost cause and abandoned band, but their earlier work really reminded me of Crepusle. If anybody is in need of a extremely solid and at times surprisingly uplighting melodeath album, go give Heavenly Skies a try. Classic melodeath, combined with a fair share of Kalmah and CoB elements.
This headline prompted me to open the link faster than I believe most could even comprehend. That headline from Mark (Marc?) Says quite a lot considering Mark's experience level.
Mark PLEASE check out the Siberian Atmospheric Black Metal band GRIMA with their First song from napalm Records "Skull Gatherers" (or any of their songs, so good)
I know you haven't reacted to them in awhile but I'd really love to see and hear your thoughts on "Ronald" by Falling in Reverse. It's MUCH heavier than anything you've reacted to by them and I genuinely think you'd enjoy it.

They were on SO many of our year-end lists in 2024. More people need to be listening to this incredible band.
He is such a nice guy, met him last week at their Denmark tour.
Jon is the most AMAZING vocalist I have ever heard...he's fast becoming my favourite vocalist and Iotunn my fave band
Well, I got an awesome new band to binge today. Sick vocals!

I've been listening to BE since Jon was on board.
@@Nathan-dn4zl he told us about the band at the ending of the video. They're inactive at the moment. And, yeah, it's another awesome band!
Iotunn are awesome. I only really found out about them when "Kinship" came out and it went straight to being my Metal album of the year.
@@TheAsphyx666 Same!!!
Iotunn are absolutely incredible. Both of their albums were albums of the year.
Kinship Elegiac is one of those songs that just lets your mind flow. You set in a calm place and are just empty you only listen and try to digest everything.
YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! Thank you!! Best vocalist in metal right there!! The last Iotunn album was PHENOMENAL as well!!!

Thanx for introducing me to this band.
His voice reminds me of Warrel Dane. I didn't hear such a beautiful baritone since Nevermore.
@@PaulvonderHeyden oh no don't open that can of possible worms.. suspect they already have a vocalist though right

Love the mention of Roy Khan as one of his influences. Roy's voice is incredible, especially on the earlier Kamelot albums.
Love Iotunn, and Jon Aldara is quickly becoming a favorite metal vocalists of mine.
This guy sounds awesome
Yes!!!! Was hoping this would be the song from Iotunn you'd make a video on. Easily one of my favorite recent discoveries!
Great band. Great singer.

The rythm in double bass in about 25:00 it's insane.

Yo please don't blow my cover I'm trying to move away from acting and into content creation. SSSHHHH.
Dude has the voice i wish I had.
Let's go!!!
I think kinship elegiac and mistlands make up most of my listening since kinship dropped.
As we say in Quebec: CALISSE QUE C'EST BON!!!

riktigt nice!
What effect is Jón talking about at 56:35?
I think what he says is “Glen Benton effect” 😅

Have you heard Crypta? They're an all-female death metal band from Brazil. They are LEGIT.
Is this not the guy from Barren Earth? Or do they just look strikingly similar?
He is!
Sweet. I loved that band.

Meat Loaf!
Obviously a great singer, but not of the sort I could bear. Too operatic for me, by far. 🎉❤
