    Hi
    Seems that most of the issues you had with "truck campers" is specific to this one. Many now come with built in generators so you can run the air conditioning off grid. They also have fans. Open one hatch and let the fan suck the hot air out the other. I am curious to know if all truck campers are hard to sit up in or just this one. Thanks for the detailed list. Happy Vanning. 😁

    If you have the shower pan fill like that you can drain the extra water out the side and into a bucket. Later you can dump the bucket in a toilet at a rest stop or what have you. It's not fun and it's not pretty but works in a pinch if you don't have close access to septic. Also never fully trust those older meters for tank levels. Sometimes the devices in the tanks stick.

    • @travelsnacks
      @travelsnacks  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Luke! My dad advised me to scoop out the water and put it into the toilet. That was a mistake because then the toilet got too full and wouldn't flush! Your idea was better. And I agree that those meters can't be trusted. Thanks for sharing your suggestions!

    Really great tips!! In regards to getting food. Just park at the hotel, it seems most are close to restaurants and walk into the restaurant and sit down to stretch your legs. Height and width of campers is really important to know. It seems you must be wary of heatstroke in the campers. Too much gas. It's complicated being a human being😞.

    Very useful especially the first half of the comparison between vans and truck campers. One PRO for the truck camper is availability. It is fairly easy to first buy a suitable truck then find a camper top that fits (be mindful of weight limits in smaller trucks). Finding a custom van can be difficult and customizing one oneself is not for everyone.

    Also yes the truck and camper seems a bit strange but if you want to go into those places that are hard to get to or need the ground clearance and or 4wheel drive and for boon docking your going to have to tow a trailer with a van to hold all the extra stuff you will need to boon dock any length of time.

    Right now I have a van that I converted, but have been thinking a truck camper is a safer long term bet. Reason being is that I worry if I ever have major mechanical issues and the van dies, I just lost my transportation and my house. Whereas if I were in a truck camper I could just go get another truck. Do you think I'm being too fearful or is that just being practical?

    • @travelsnacks
      @travelsnacks  3 роки тому

      It's a valid point! I think you have to choose the option that gives you the most peace of mind. Personally I have an emergency fund set aside in case of van troubles. I keep adding to it here and there just to make sure I can get anything repaired when needed. I do like the truck and camper option but not as much as the van. Mainly because of the size.

    • @jesuscross9
      @jesuscross9 3 роки тому

      @@travelsnacks I see. Yes I've considered that, but there's also the concern of where are you going to stay while it's in the shop? One has to budget for that as well. And just how much in repairs are we willing to do before we decide that scrapping it and buying another van is a better option? I actually rolled my previous conversion van and totaled it. I had to start from ground zero all over again. The insurance barely covered bluebook value and gave me nothing on the conversion I had done to it.

    I like the look of a truck more than a van, but I think the free flow movement from windshield to rear door is probably more useful in a van. In any event I've no need of a van or a truck for that matter so my answer is hypothetical.

    Don’t forget you can always detach a camper and leave it set up. Plus have a vehicle to drive and go explore with, dump and refill tanks. The newer campers come in all lengths now. From a Toyota short box at 1100 lbs and same width, up to a 3500 at 8.5’ wide and 4400lbs.
    Pick the truck first, my choice a Ram 1500 Eco Diesel. With camper I expect to stay around 20+ mpg with a 33 gallon fuel tank. That’s 660 miles per fill up at least. Lance 650 or a Scout Truck Camper. With a Helwig sway bar and upgraded bump stops and factory air ride suspension, I’m looking forward to going anywhere. A van feels too small for me. A truck handles off-road better too.

    yeah a truck and camper is more for "campgrounds" ...personally I'd get a micro pull camper, that way you could drop the camper in a spot and roam more freely in the car/truck, esp in those State Parks...also if you can squeeze it in, get an Ebike...that way you can easily zip around as well...the Jetson is only about 350 bucks and it folds up quite nicely ... snack on

    I think vans are best for incognito. I lived out of my old ford focus wagon for 2 years in San Diego while working and I had 24 hour fitness and was grandfathered in to $99 per year. I have been gone for 3 years now so I had to let that go. It was sad. Hopefully people will consider that as it is a big issue to encounter. Stealth is most important. If I could afford, I would have a Sprinter for height.
    Smells, I used Febreeze and it worked very well.
    I am from San Diego. Been there all my life until the Lord pulled me out of there and currently in the northwest corner of georgia, about 30 miles from chattanooga, tn.
    When I see or hear California in your videos, I just miss home.
    If you never had some good cronuts, croissant donuts, go to Crispy's donuts in San Marcos, just head down palomar airport rd and turn left on rancho santa fe blvd, near San Marcos High and it eill be on your left a couple miles. But before you make that left, go to the Albertsons on your right, at that light, across from San Marcos high and get a surf and turf burrito from The Train taco shop. I love them with no rice but add extra sauce.
    During the summer, I would put lots of garlic powder in my food to keep mosquitos away. They can be a pain. Cup of noodles was easiest to load up on garlic powder.

    Your videos are wonderful I've watched six or seven now and I'm a subscriber. Have you ever thought about doing a trip, based on fasting for improving health & mental clarity? I've been watching quite a few fasting channels and apparently people can go 30 days with only water no problem (yeah, easier said than done!) Seems if you didn't pack any food, there wouldn't be the temptation if you were out in the wilderness. I've done a couple 5-day fasts, each time it's easier a hunger always leaves after day 3. I'm not talking about intermittent fasting where you eat during a window or one meal a day I'm talking about 24 hours with no food, in consecutive days.

    with a truck slide in camper you can get a slide out and have a lot more room . you can have a bathroom and shower . the major thing is this 90 percent of people who stay in a van thats home built have major problems because of it has is a colorless, strong-smelling gas used in making building materials and many household products. It is used in pressed-wood products, such as particleboard, plywood, and fiberboard; glues and adhesives; permanent-press fabrics; paper product coatings; and certain insulation materials.
    i dont get why you take up 2 spots its the same size as a van . if its to big get a car dolly and a small car . then park truck and drive car. slide ins conncet to the truck so if truck is running camper will work to

    Parking at a hotel is NOT a good idea. All of them have security cameras now, and they WILL call the police on you. Many have a speed bump that lets them take a picture of every license plate that comes into the entrance. Regarding walking up to a drive thru window, every place I ever worked will not allow that. Otherwise, this is a great video. Good comparison and lots to think about. I would have liked to have seen a cost comparison.

    a truck camper is about the same length as an extended van and you CAN park just about anywhere. We have a camper on a Ford F-350 and we are only about 20 feet in length. its true that it is not as stealthy as a van. Also, most truck campers you can sit up in the bedroom area. It looks like the camper you are in is really really old, so it's not the greatest comparison for campers that are newer. Many campers have an onboard generator, or you can use an external generator (Honda 2000) to run your AC. I have never hear of a camper where you do to have hot water . . . I would say that 90 % campers have a propane heated water tank if you are not plugged in.

  • @nevysadventuresllc9074
    @nevysadventuresllc9074 3 роки тому

    Ok people think of this. One person can easily load and unload a truck camper off a truck in about 15 minutes or less and still have your truck to run to town or whatever. If your van needs work then your out your home and your spending money on hotels. If your camper needs work you still have your truck, if your truck needs work you still have your camper to stay in. Not to mention Vans storage tanks are usually limited in potable water and waste water. Vans unless built specific to your needs will lack many amenities for cooking food and how much food you can keep in a van. As far as the gas mileage was I recommend a diesel the mileage is usually quite a difference. As far as smells you need to be mindful of how you do anything. Ok second you can buy a great quality used truck and a brand new truck camper for less then a decent VAN..

    I just found you videos and watched 3. Just subscribed to your Channel. I like the advice from the perspective of a woman 1, 2 I like the perspective that you put on one of your videos about using adult diapers and how some people need to use them for medical reasons. Finally I like the idea of going through the pros and cons of a pickup truck with a camper versus a van that is built out. I would like to see you discussed the pros and cons of a van build-out compared to a box truck build out. Because right now I'm deciding between a cargo van and a box truck that is 10 x 10 the build-out. It would be nice to see you meet up with a woman stealth camping and either a van or a box truck built out that has either a disability that requires them to use a wheelchair or mobility issues where they have to use adaptive equipment, like a walker or something to get around and do a video about stealth camping as a solo woman with a disability. when I get my bills done after I decide what I'm going to build and how it's going to be built out. I would love to get together with you and show you the ideas I have come up with. to make it so somebody who needs medical equipment that relies on electricity can't do a van or box truck build out show me plenty of room for a hospital bed, storage, and a motorized wheelchair, and still have room for a kitchen and bathroom with the shower I have a rough sketch on paper for both a cargo van or a 10 x 10 box truck or even a pickup truck with a cargo trailer build-out. I am currently Wayne all the pros and cons on which would be the best in my situation. and for those who say that because I have a physical disability that requires me to sleep hospital bed and have a motorized wheelchair for any distance that I should not be doing this or it's impossible. to the doubters I say anything is possible you just learn to work around your limitations and it may take longer to do but it can still be done. so soon as I decide which rig to get and start working on the build-out done and ready to move in for full time nomadic living, then I will set up a u-tube channel and start doing videos that will include all of the videos of what I chose, why, and what I included and why with my disability.I will also take videos of the build out and show how the build out was done for someone with a disability that requires a hospital bed and a motorized wheelchair or other Mobility equipment. Happy trails and thank you for your videos they are helpful and my decision on what to get for a build-out to accommodate me.

      @@Nanno00, unfortunately not yet. Right now I own a 2006 crown victory car that can only tow 1,500 lbs and has a class two tow hitch. That means that I would have to be about 800lbs dry weight. And it's got a tongue weight of 150lbs. If I could afford a low mileage dodge grand caravan or a minivan I could trade my crown victory for that has under 150 miles on it then I could build it out and would be on the road in 60 days. Just can't afford one with the prices in Northern California right now but trying to come up with some creative ideas. Not giving up.

      I think a truck and camper (or small RV) would be better with two people . That way you can share responsibilities and there's more room to move around. Could be great for your family!

      Thanks for that tour.....those truck campers are$10,000+.....8- 10 miles to the gallon...Is it worth it??

    Thank you for the info. I thought I wanted a camper truck, though after seeing your video, a large van is a better choice.

    Enjoyed this video! It would be awesome if you could try this comparison again with a modern truck camper that has dual or even triple slides. Van slides are so rare so it seems like if someone wanted more space without getting a bigger/longer vehicle, truck campers with slides or a small class C with slides are the only options. Or at least until something like the Hymer visionventure actually goes on sale.

    Truck is still very nice far better than the van.but you need a diesel engine to make it very economical
