    I am a Danish blacksmith 66 yrs. old 176cm height. I started out 1. of October last year weighing in at 102Kg's. Went on (very) strict keto diet, which I am still on at this point. My weight today says 72Kg. I have not felt hungry during this period even though I eat very little. I have experienced great mental clarity overall, and I feel like I have more energy now, than I have had over the last decade of letting myself go. I have added D-vitamin, small amounts of electric trace minerals and sparingly raw apple vinegar cider every day. I have (re-)started working out, lifting weights and treadmilling, and lately adjusted my eating toward more protein and less fat as I am now (I believe) fully keto adapted. Going forward from here, I'll be gunning for flexible metabolism, focus on loosening all my tight joints, building sum muscle mass, get to around 70Kg's and eat sparingly and healthy. Thank you for this highly informative video.

      How clean were/are you with keto. I’m your neighbour from Sweden and as you know we don’t have meat that says grass fed. Do you only eat organic? My weight is 92 and I want to lose like 10 kg where that was the weight I had when I felt the best. But I have a lot of bloating thats hard to get rid off.

    • @johnkristensen54
      @johnkristensen54 2 роки тому

      @@tonpe92 Hejsan tonpe. For the first five months I was VERY strict with my keto diet. Max. 10-15 grams of carbs a day, just enough protein (predominantly from økologisk chicken, salmon, trout and shrimps) so that my body did not eat all my muscles, and lots of fat to make sure my liver got convinced to metabolize fat and produce ketones. I measure blood ketones and for the first four months I was consistently at around 5mM beta-hydroxybutyrate. This is probably taking it a bit too far, but it worked like a charm for me at least. I eat almost exclusively organic if by organic you mean "økologisk" and I stay away from processed foods altogether. I also drink lots of coffee with added milk from grass fed cows ;-). As you can imagine I started out heavily bloated but still lost almost 20Kg within the first two and a half month. At that point I still felt quite bloated so I upped my workout and started reducing fat intake as much as possible. The bloating will not go away solely from going on a keto diet, I believe you have to combine it with exercise, at least that has been my experience. If you follow a strict keto regime you WILL loose those 10 Kg's pretty fast, but the bloating will take longer. I hope you can find use for some of this, held og lykke fra mig og Danmark ;-)

    I thrive better on keto or at least low-carb. Even if I increase my carb intake (somewhat), I don't do sugar or grains and I try to stick to organic and non-gmo. But if I visit my grown children and they fix a meal, I eat it with gratitude (and prayer) ...and then go back to my keto/low-carb once I go home.

      Indigenous diet is the secret! My mom almost never got to eat much that her parents didn't grow. Her fam were dirt farmers in Ukraine. They lived on potatoes, cabbage, onions, carrots, anything they could grow. 3 generations of women made it to 100 and beyond in perfect health/youthful energy. My great gran won ballroom dance trophies into her last decade. Died in her sleep at 114. Clean air/no junk food. Maybe a little sugar at Xmas.

    I did the keto experiment for a good while, but I found that carbs are not evil, and it's not the way to have a balanced lifestyle for me personally. What it did most of all is help me make better food choices and vastly improve my cooking skills. Now it's totally flexible, I'll have whatever I want, but I know how to balance it, how to eat for performance, and I'm losing fat comfortably while my lifting is improving.

    Such a great watch. My weight has been an issue for a lot of my life. Huge self-confidence and negative talk while I was heavy. I was skinny until about 15 when I was a Sophomore in high school. Was a rollercoaster of ups & downs with my weight levels. It wasn't until I hit my highest at around 243lbs, 7 years ago, when there was a bit of a wake up call. I had finally found a diet that worked at the time, alongside with walking several miles a day at a faster pace which allowed me to drop 60 to 70 lbs within 6 months. Back then, looking at my diet at the time, I was doing a form of keto without ever knowing what keto was. Fast forward to today, I had slowly started gaining that weight back as of April last year. I had to change. My goal was to this time around, officially drop 100lbs from my all time heaviest. I did it and got to 143. I'm 5'7", mind you, but I wasn't skinny by any stretch when losing it. Now I'm trying to obtain that physique I've always wanted with muscle. That's going to take a lot of time, but I'm committed! Once I achieve this feat, I'll be very proud of myself. Not to say that I'm not already proud of what I've achieved so far. I absolutely am. And am humbled too. Grateful.

    I was in a keto Group on Facebook and I had to get out because all these people wanted to do was make almond flour desserts and have desserts desserts desserts. I kept telling them you’re just trading one bad habit for another. Almonds are high in oxalates and so that’s not really good either. Same with your dark greens in a lot of foods it’s not necessarily a super food it could be super bad for you. Have to pay attention to how you feel. Have to do your research. These people really went after me and I was like really? The reason you’re obese or fat is because of bad habits and now you’re just trading the ingredients but you still have the bad habit. And I wasn’t being critical. I lost 35 pounds on keto but I didn’t do it eating fake desserts

    • @guibox3
      @guibox3 2 роки тому

      It is preferable to be eating whole foods, yes. However, I don't think there is anything wrong with them. They are better than the alternatives. If you feel the need to have some, have them. The 'trading one bad habit for another' is not a valid argument. There is nothing wrong with feeding the sweet tooth on occasion. We have taste buds for a reason: to enjoy all of our taste senses. Salty, umami, sour AND sweet. There is nothing wrong with anything sweet, nor is it a 'bad habit'. It is what makes it sweet that is a problem. Some people say, 'Eating anything sweet can you go off the deep end if you are addicted.' Okay...then we have an addiction problem. For anyone else, there is nothing wrong with having something sweet. If eating stevia fat bombs makes you run to Dairy Queen and put yourself into a sugar coma...then don't eat it. Just like anyone who falls off the wagon with any other type of food substitute.

    What a great no nonsense conversation, I wanted to jump in on this at many points. I agree that many of the processed "Keto" products out there are questionable. My feeling is that simple honest food prepared simply can be equally as good. Not all food has to be a party in the mouth.
    I always struggled with weight. But taking into account I was raised by a generation that put white sugar on cold cereal. It is a wonder I made it out alive. Then I went thru the 80's with the entire Low fat craze, Snackwells and 100 calorie snack packaging (Good God). My first intro to Keto was the idea of bacon cheese burgers and peanut butter. ( I was smarter than that). But my first cup of butter tea and my brain was rapid fire neuron responses. I was all in at that point.

    Excellent discussion! Today, I read the label of some Swedish Vegan Pea Milk: Water, Pea protein, rapeseed oil, agave syrup...
    Why do they bother? I certainly won't be using any.. Pullups, 6+6+(3, after getting a little puffed. ) then up 3 flights of stairs. Moderation versus gluttony. I am 22 lbs. overweight. Yes, 196 Ibs.

    I met Ethan Suplee, over the weekend, at HorrorHound. I was completely starstruck and wasn't able to speak coherently.
    I wanted to tell him about my 140 pound weight loss and the struggles of gaining 50 of it back. The struggle to keep it off and how hearing his story is truly inspiring me to continue on. His story is so much like mine. I wanted to tell him that but I'm not sure what happened. Lol
    I'm honored he fist bumped me and told me that "WE" are killing it.
    It meant the world to me that he took a moment for me to fanboy. hope to meet him again and actually be able to speak properly.
    Thank You for sharing your stories and doing what you do!

    So, for fat loss
    1.Eat less, at a deficit
    2.Keep the sources clean- not foods that give you a dopamine hit because then you could become addicted to it and end up overeating.
    3.No matter what nutrition camp you you choose, once in a while include other foods for
    -becoming anti-fragile. So that you don't lose your adaptation to any food.
    -microbiome.
    4.Keep acute stressors for short time periods. They are to be "acute" and not chronic. Like IF, Hypocaloric diets etc
    Did I get it right? Plz add to it.

    I live on a unprocessed whole foods diet, mostly fresh produce salads, seeds & nuts, legumes, some whole grains, not much, and like fruit too. I'll have coconut milk in coffee or cocoa which does have some natural oil in it. I have lost a lot of weight eating the nutritarian way and find it keeps me in a stable bmi.

    I’d love to hear more insights from people who successfully conquered food addiction. Despite all I’ve accomplished health-wise in my own transformation, I’m still addicted to food if I’m being honest.
    I say this because I only succeeded in losing fat and keeping it off after I cleansed my environment of temptation, getting all the bad food out of the house, becoming self employed so I wasn’t eating with coworkers, and so on.
    I still binge sometimes, or fall off the wagon for days or weeks under certain conditions, or cheat when offered junk food. So yeah, I can gain a temporary advantage over food, but it still rules me in the end.
    A person should be able to work in a candy store and remain immune to temptation. That’s true mental mastery over food, something that comes naturally for many, or remains forever unattainable for others.
    I want to know, how do you attain this? How do you gain true mental mastery over food? Because THAT is the answer to everything, really. If you can truly, truly master food, then you can pretty much solve all your health issues. It is THE most important mental skill to attain.

    The Dutch Hunger Winter happened in the winter of 1944-45 in The Netherlands. While a big part of Europe was liberated of the Nazi regime, the west and northern part of the Netherlands was still occupied. The Nazi's took all the food and brought it to Germany. Food ration dropped under 500 calories a day in a winter that started early and was bitterly cold.
    In the 1990's dr. Tessa Roseboom, a medical faculty member of the University of Amsterdam, began to collect data about the children conceived and born during the Dutch Hunger winter. That brutal winter gave them a poorer health six decades later.

    I think to the point of the "eat fat to burn fat" mantra, in the beginning of the keto movement people were so afraid of fat coming off low fat diets of the 1990s and years of hearing that dietary fat will give you heart attacks that soundbites like that were a way to convince people to not fear fat as much. Also, fat and protein are very satiating, especially after a diet of processed food, salads and appetite stimulating junk, I can see how people would eat normal food to fullness but still get less calories than they previously did. That's not to say calories don't matter.
