    Thank you so much! I've recently purchased a nicely styled Chinese elm but with a horrible Nabari (only one large root with feeders coming from it).
    I was going to try your technique but wasn't sure it'd work. Your video just proved it does. 😁

    Hallo Peter. Im Prinzip ist das ja wie eine Abmoosung und die kann schief gehen und der obere Teil stirbt ab. Wie tief muss man denn die Rinde entfernen, damit das nicht passiert. Ist ja gerade dann im Wurzelbereich ziemlich riskant, wenn man das falsch macht.

    • @WorldofBonsai
      @WorldofBonsai  2 роки тому

      Hallo Andre. Jede Abmoosung ist etwas riskant. Ulmen sind da relativ unempfindlich. Ich entferne auch das Kambium unter der Rinde, am Besten mit einem Messer sorgfältig abschaben.

    ***Update*** After using this method my elm had just a small amount of die off but within 1.5 weeks; new growth sprouting everywhere.
    I did leave a very small bridge in the graft but surely not enough to hinder new root development (btw, I used rooting hormone powder). Can't wait to see the results next year 😅.

    When repotting a tree after drastic root removal and or air layering bark stripping do not remove any growing tips. Plant growth regulators (only animals produce hormones) will come from the apical meristems. Instead to reduce transpiration from the large leaf surface area I cut many leaves in half. You could also use an antitranspirant like Wiltpruf or CloudCover. You can use approach grafts from cuttings or seedlings while a tree is in the ground or a very large pot to gain large root and trunk diameter.

    Great video for the topic itself, especially that you film progress over long timespans so we can see how it actually progresses.
    But, i think your videos would greatly improve if you would use all the silent time for explanations, it's probably not easy for beginners to recreate it if they don't know air-layering, how deep to cut, etc.
