- Just going over some basic uniform differences here. Marines have a large variety of uniforms and this does not cover everything but I wanted to highlight the key differences out there and help people understand them. If there is something specific you want to see drop a comment.
Disclosure: Most of the pictures come from MCO P1020.34H the rest come from internet searches, both are used as a transformative piece of work. All opinions stated here are my own and none are legitimate advice or meant to replace any reference materials.

A boot story: I commissioned on 4 July 2017. Unsurprisingly, I waited until the night before my commissioning date to set my uniform up and only then did I realize something was missing. I ordered my dress blues online the week before and they did not come with the officer EGA insignia for the collars. I hit up my buddy, an enlisted Marine, to borrow his collar insignia and threw them on my uniform, noticing that they looked a little different than the ones i was supposed to order. Didn't think much of it and it was too late to do anything at that point. On commission day, my OSO, who happened to be a mustang, called me out immediately. Typical second lieutenant move...
That's a candid story, thanks for sharing it brother! 🤣
I commissioned in cammies. Didn't want to ruin my promotions being only in that uniform, I think I didn't even have the officer blues yet.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!
Anytime dude.
What about the black belt that goes across the chest and over the shoulder for officers (coolest detail imo); when is that belt combination worn as opposed to the waist belt alone? It seems like it might be for the sword, but also when are the swords worn?
The Sam Brown belt. Yes that's required to wear the sword as an officer but can just be worn for fun. Swords are ceremonial at best (wearing one is at your own discretion unless there's a ceremony going on.)
A wise man once said ''the world is rough, if a mans gonna make it he's gotta be tough'' Keep going with the vids, you'll find improvement at the end of the tunnel!
Thanks man!
No clue why the algorithim blessed me with this video but man am I glad it did. Great video!!!
Thanks brother, may the algorithm unite us again one day.
@@RyanNelson0402 hey man the algorithm doesn’t need to. I’ll be checking out the channel when you upload lol.
Thanks for the inspiration. Sometimes I feel like I'm just yeeting content into the void and nobody's on the other side.
@@RyanNelson0402 Hey man there are people out there that watch your content. And if you keep the effort up, the amount of people watching will expand.
The yellow that you called "loopy" on the bill of the officers service cap are oak leaves which was nicked name "scrambled eggs".
Was I talking about the chinstrap or that? Either way it looks eccentric and cluttered to me devil pup. 😁
@@RyanNelson0402 True but I thought you were talking about the "scrambled eggs" LOL. Marine from 1979 thru 1996.
2010-2021 Semper Fidelis brother.

Temporary hiatus. Will be back at it soon, big life stuff came up brother!
@@RyanNelson0402 hey man! do you know when you'll be back? Still waiting lol
Before the end of March, for sure my dude. Sorry to keep you waiting.
@@RyanNelson0402no no. No reason to apologize lol! Just waiting for my fav UA-camr to come back that’s all.
BAM'S should go back to their original uniform
What's a BAM?
keep safe always personel men
Sure thing.
The female Marines have shied away from skirts and more into wearing trousers, this compounded with the historically male barracks cover is, in my opinion not the best look......and yes i am old school and set in my ways!
Yeah, back in 1900 females weren't allowed!
Your age is showing.
I was a mustang. Biggest difference was about $3k out of pocket as a new Lt for uniforms & Mameluke sword.
Well my guy... same poop different generation? (2010-2021)
The enlisted uniform items just get deducted from your pay over the span of 3 months at recruit training while as a shiny boy you're paying all at once. But yeah, the uniform allowance isn't an officer thing etc etc. When you're talking money 2ndLt's get a bit shafted out the gate.
@@RyanNelson0402 unless things changed drastically, enlisted don’t pay for initial uniform issue. Although I wouldn’t put it past Uncle Sam for trying to tax that allowance. Shit, I was always perplexed I had to file taxes in my home of record state that I hardly set foot in after I left.
@bodidley5015 this might blow your mind but E-1's recieve reduced pay during their first few months of service while candidates at OCS do not. I like to think it's to compensate uncle Sam for the uniform items but it's open to speculation so eh, "free" with your reduced paycheck is just saving face for the DoD to me.
@@RyanNelson0402 that’s for non issued gear. Did you miss the part where I said I was a mustang? Hair cuts, laundry detergent, brass polish, razor & blades, soap, etc.
@bodidley5015 when I went through you had to use your issued debit card for that stuff and pull cash from the ATM for haircuts.
