Tried both of them. Truenas with 10GBe, xeon, 32GB ecc memory,.. amazingly fast, but take ages to configure and properly understand. For "normal" home family use, definitely Synology
I dumped my Synology and went with TrueNAS. After careful evolution it came down to reliability and ability to get parts when anything fails. Having standard ATX power supply with common motherboard makes it easy to replace.
I think that's what it comes to, do you want to be able to repair it if anything goes down.
Thank you. Interesting for confirming my Synology purchase, now old but still working nicely.
I have had Clients with 10 year old synology's still plugging along!
Great video... I'm honestly a ZFS fan in general and moved over to TrueNas within the last year. Synology and QNAP are both great companies with great products however they don't scale well especially when you consider the cost of expansion units etc. That point really resonated with me.
Yeah if you are looking at 200+ TB TrueNAS becomes very much the way to go for 90% of use cases
Personally for our home QNAP with QuTS hero. A lot of people are video editing at home and they also need iOS and Android backups. There are hybrid solidstate options...
That was a very good and honest comparison.
Wow! You did an amazing job explaining between a scalable nas and a home/small business NAS! I do have a question though, I current have an app deployed on a DigitalOcean Linux server, could you do a video on how to run a Linux based App Server on the Synology NAS??
Wow you pinpoint, the différences between the two. Thank you for this amazing informations
Your videos are awesome! I have a question, is there anyway to set up a Wordpress form with file upload directly to a synology NAS using quickconnect?
Hmmm that might be hard. You might find a plugin which would use the WebDAV server of the synology. Or you could also just use the synology “file request feature”
I’d wait a few more years for BTRFS to mature and prove its stability before putting it into production.
Synology is the most easy , but still complex enough for me , Ha Ha Ha.
Wants to ask sir about how to enhance LTE-uplink speed.
I may have missed this but what is your suggestion for duplicate file scrubbing once you offload backups. ex: images, exe, etc.
I really appreciate your video's but please don't do like many others on the web and promote "any old computer" as a potential TrueNAS system. There are minimum requirement for TrueNAS due to the fact that it uses ZFS. You can build excellent budget systems (with used server grade hardware for example) but a lot of consumer graded hardware gives a, let's say, less then satisfying result.
Have you done any videos on using synology as your email client? Doesn't seem to be much info out there.
He has mentioned it in the past. Apparently the way email works is such that anything sent from your own mail server will just end up in other peoples spam folders.
can you please provide info on how to build truenas system (is it possible to create with our own hardware?)
It is! I have a buying guide that should be out soon!
@@SpaceRexWill im eagarly waiting for more subscribers ,
TrueNAS Forever!
The cost of a fully spaced R630 server that u have + disks vs Synology fully spaced cost . difference ?
Depends heavily, if you buy from Dell then the Synology will end up being 1/3rd the price all in. But if you buy used and need heavy performance outside of just a NAS and you know how to setup your TrueNAS well then the dell may be cheaper
@@SpaceRexWill wanna se som cost videos and thrueNAS videos on backup more server videos ! love it
6 x 16 TB drives in a RAID 5? Way to risky. Those drives are so large you should only consider RAID 6, 10, etc.
Rebuild times are not going to be that long. They are going to be 2-3 days at worst. I I generally draw the line to raid 6 at 8 drives
Been running Xpenology for 6 years without a single issue. Just sayin'
Truenas can be virtualized and not tied to hardware. I can take drive where truenas is installed and run on a different machine. Synology is overpriced maybe 10 times at least for no reason, photo app doesn't capture video thumbnails properly and has a tonne of bugs. Truenas is far superior. Truenas vs Synology is like Tesla vs scooter.
synology es Microsoft.... y TrueNAS es linux xD
I think you are wrong about Truenas.
Can you elaborate?
Which part?
